Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common acute leukemia in adults, and chemotherapy remains the most commonly used treatment approach for this group of hematological disorders. Drug resistance is one of the predictors of unfavorable prognosis for leukemia patients.
The purpose of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis of the survival rate in AML patients according to age, tumor status, and chemotherapy regimen received and to analyze the therapy response of AML patients depending on the treatment received, initial responsiveness of tumor cells to chemotherapeutic drugs measured in vitro at diagnosis and expression of immunological markers.
The survival of AML patients (n = 127) was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Bcl-2 expression Drug sensitivity of tumor cells of AML patients (n = 37) and the expression of immunological markers were evaluated by the WST test and flow cytometry, respectively. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman's rank order correlation coefficient.
We found theosis can be a useful tool for predicting the response of leukemia patients to planned chemotherapy.
To investigate the relationship between pressure ulcers risk and severity of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) by invasive coronary angiography.
Cross-sectional study.
A total of 193 consecutive patients with underlying pressure ulcers risk who underwent invasive coronary angiography were enrolled. Subjects were divided into three groups according to severity of coronary artery stenosis. Pressure ulcers risk score, fall risk score, self-care ability score and cardiovascular risk factors were compared among the three groups. Multivariate regression analysis and receiver operating curve analysis were performed to explore the diagnostic value of Braden score for left main or three-vessel disease.
Patients with more severe CAD had higher pressure ulcers risk. The percentage of high-pressure ulcers risk was highest in left main or three-vessel disease group, compared with control group and single- or two-vessel disease group. After adjusting for age, body mass index, diabetes, chronic kidney diseasive CAD.
To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of Moroccan nursing students towards COVID-19.
Cross-sectional study.
Data were collected using an online questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics and 24 items about COVID-19-related knowledge, attitudes and practices.
A total of 1,216 nursing students participated in this study. About 82% of the participants reported that the COVID-19 virus spreads via respiratory droplets of infected individuals. The most clinical symptoms of COVID-19 correctly identified by participants were fever (97.6%), dry cough (92.4%), dyspnoea (82%) and fatigue (74.9%). More than 56.6% of the participants were afraid of being affected by COVID-19. Almost all participants reported that they avoid crowded places frequently. About 93.4% of the participants declared frequently wearing face mask when leaving home, and 85.5% maintained social distancing frequently. However, only 47.4% reported that they frequently washed their hands. About 51% stated that coronavirus outbreak has considerably changed their daily routines.

High-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with TI-CE regimen is a valid option for the treatment of relapsed advanced germ cell tumors (GCT). We report a phase II trial with therapeutic drug monitoring of carboplatin for optimizing area under the curve (AUC) of this drug.
Patients with unfavorable relapsed GCT were treated according to TI-CE regimen two cycles combining paclitaxel and ifosfamide followed by three cycles of HD carboplatin plus etoposide administered on 3days. Carboplatin dose was adapted on day 3 based on carboplatin clearance (CL) at day 1 in order to reach a target AUC of 24mg.min/mL per cycle. The primary endpoint was the complete response (CR) rate.
Eighty-nine patients who received HDCT were included in the modified intent-to-treat (mITT) analysis. Measured mean AUC was 24.4mg.min/mL per cycle (22.4 and 26.8mg.min/mL for 10th and 90th percentiles). Thirty-five (44.3%) patients achieved a CR with or without surgery of residual masses and 20 patients achieved a partial response with negative tumor markers. With a median follow-up of 44months (m), median PFS was 12.3m (95% CI 7.5-25.9) and OS was 46.3m (95% CI 18.6-not reached). For high- and very high-risk patients, according to the International Prognostic Score at first relapse or treated after at least one salvage treatment (n=51), 2-year PFS rate was 41.1%.
The rates of complete and favorable responses were clinically relevant in this very poor risk population. Individual monitoring of carboplatin plasma concentration permitted to control more accurately the target AUC and avoided both underexposure and overexposure to the drug.

Many evidences indicate that frataxin deficiency causes an unbalance of iron homeostasis. Nevertheless, in the last decade many results also highlighted the importance of calcium unbalance in the deleterious downstream effects caused by frataxin deficiency. In this review, the role of these two metals has been gathered to give a whole view of how iron and calcium dyshomeostasys impacts on cellular functions and, as a result, which strategies can be followed to find an effective therapy for the disease.
