[B]Founding and Owners
Gringotts was created by Gringott, a goblin, in 1474. Some time later, it switched ownership to the Ministry of Magic. By the 1500s, it was managed by wizards. The bank was then moved back to complete goblin ownership in 1865.
[B]Break-ins
There are only two known thefts/attempted thefts of Gringotts. In 1991, Quirinus Quirrel attempted to steal from Vault 713. The item he attempted to take was later found to be the Philosopher's Stone. When Harry Potter first went to Gringotts with Rubeus Hagrid, Hagrid retrieved the stone. On the same day, a powerful wizard broke into the vault. He couldn't get the stone, but shocked wizards everywhere because Gringotts was never broken into. The second break-in was in 1998, by Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, with help from the goblin, Griphook. They broke into the vault of Bellatrix Lestrange where a Horcrux was hidden.
Hello, Curse-breaker Hunter here. It's my turn to write for Gringotts today. Today I'm writing about... security. Seeing as how I discussed break-ins before, I need to reassure you that those were rare occasions and Gringotts has maximum security.
Low security vaults need a key. Higher security vaults need the touch of a certified goblin.
