Following these complaints, the autopsy was performed, and subsequent histological examinations revealed the presence of typical and pathognomonic histological findings of acute viral bronchiolitis, whose morphological appearance is poorly reported in the literature. The analysis of these cases made it possible to highlight the following conclusions the main problems in diagnosing sudden death causes, especially in childhood, are the rapidity of death and the scarce correlation between the preexistent diseases and of the cause of death itself. For all these reasons, the autopsy, either clinical or medicolegal, is mandatory in cases of sudden unexpected infant death to manage claim requests because only the histological examinations performed on samples collected during the autopsy can reveal the real cause of death.The basic principle that deeper therapeutic responses lead to better clinical outcomes in cancer has emerged technologies capable of detecting rare residual tumor cells. The need for ultra-sensitive approaches for minimal residual disease (MRD) detection is particularly evident in Multiple Myeloma (MM), where patients will ultimately relapse despite the achievement of complete remission, which is commonplace due to remarkable therapeutic advances. Consequently, current response criteria on MM have been amended based on MRD status and MRD negativity is now considered the most dominant prognostic factor and the most valuable indicator for a subsequent relapse. However, there are particular limitations and several aspects for MRD assessment that remain open. This review summarizes current data on MRD in the clinical management of MM, highlights open issues and discusses the challenges and the endless opportunities arising for both patients and clinicians. Furthermore, it focuses on the current status of MRD in clinical trials, its dynamics in addressing debatable aspects in the clinical handling and its potential role as the prevailing factor for future MRD-driven tailored therapies.Background Primary basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a rare prostate cancer. Currently, a standard treatment regime for BCC of the prostate is lacking and most patients have a poor prognosis. We reported on a patient with BCC of the prostate whose cancer metastasized after undergoing a radical prostatectomy and whose prognosis improved after treatment with etoposide. Case Presentation A 62-year-old male with a history of seminoma was admitted complaining of intermittent gross hematuria for 1 month. Following a prostate biopsy, the patient was diagnosed with BCC of the prostate and received radical prostatectomy and radiotherapy. Initially, the patient's symptoms improved; however, 2 years later, a chest computed tomography (CT) scan revealed lung nodules. The patient did not exhibit any symptoms of BCC of the prostate; however, pathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the nodules confirmed metastatic BCC of the prostate. Chemotherapy with docetaxel and cisplatin was well-tolerated but did not slow disease progression. Next-generation sequencing revealed mutations in the ataxia telangiectasia-mutated (ATM), SWI/SNF-related matrix-associated actin-dependent regulator of chromatin subfamily b-member 1 (SMARCB1), and phosphoinositide-3-kinase regulatory subunit 1 (PIK3R1) genes. The patient did not receive targeted therapy owing to financial limitations and instead, etoposide was administered. A 9-month follow-up chest CT scan showed an 80% reduction in existing lung nodules and no new nodules had developed. Conclusion Our patient, diagnosed with recurrent prostate BCC after receiving a radical prostatectomy, responded to treatment with etoposide. Radical prostatectomy and radiotherapy should remain first-line therapy; however, etoposide may be an alternative second-line therapy when other options are not available. Consensus regarding treatment plans, and the molecular mechanisms behind prostate BBC, must be elucidated.MTFR2 is an oncogene involved in the progression of cancer, its' potential mechanism in oral squamous carcinoma remains unknown. The aim of this study was to uncover the bio-function and the mechanism of MTFR2 in the progression of oral squamous carcinoma. We scanned TCGA database to identify MTFR2 as dysregulated genes. qRT-PCR and Western blotting assays were applied to detect the expression pattern of MTFR2 in oral squamous carcinoma. We next established stable MTFR2-overexpressing and MTFR2 knocking down cell lines. A series of experiments were applied and the results indicated that MTFR2 was upregulated in cancer tissue and negatively correlated with the overall survival (OS) of patients in both the TCGA database and our inhouse database. Following experiments showed that MTFR2 promotes proliferation, migration and invasion in an oral squamous carcinoma cell line by switching OXPHOS to glycolysis.Objective To evaluate whether radiomic features extracted from intra and peri-nodular lesions can enhance the ability to differentiate between invasive adenocarcinoma (IA), minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) manifesting as ground-glass nodule (GGN). Materials and Methods This retrospective study enrolled 120 patients with a total of 121 pathologically confirmed lung adenocarcinomas (85 IA and 36 AIS/MIA) from January 2015 to May 2019. Corticosterone cell line The recruited patients were randomly divided into training (84 nodules) and validation sets (37 nodules), with a ratio of 73. The minority group in the training set was balanced by the synthetic minority over-sampling (SMOTE) method. The intra-, peri-nodular, and gross region of interests (ROI) were delineated with manual annotation. Image features were quantitatively extracted from each ROI on CT images. The minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR) feature ranking method and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) classifier were used to eliminate unnecessary features.
