Statistical analysis was done using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression.
Four hundred twenty-eight patients underwent combined cataract and ELT surgery, and 84 underwent solitary ELT surgery. After a median follow-up time of 656days, 87% (combined surgery) and 66% (ELT) of the patients did not have to undergo another IOP-lowering intervention; 47/31% were classified as a qualified success and 31/11% as a complete success. The IOP-lowering medication, however, could not be significantly reduced within that time period.
Especially when combined with cataract surgery, ELT is a feasible minimally invasive procedure to lower the IOP on a mid- to long-term basis. Over the long term, however, IOP-lowering medication could not be reduced.

In recent years, a number of radiological studies on the diagnostic and forensic relevance of injured bridging veins were conducted using different imaging modalities. The present article will give an overview on the current state of research in this field and will discuss the forensic implications. The meta-analysis of the seven currently existing studies revealed that injuries of the bridging veins and bridging vein thromboses, respectively, frequently appear as rounded, enlarged, and/or tubular structures. The "tadpole sign" may serve as a valuable tool for the identification of these formations. Especially, T2*/SWI (susceptibility-weighted imaging) sequences allow for good detectability of these lesions and should always be generated when abusive head trauma is suspected. In conclusion, it can be recommended that the presence of radiologically detectable bridging vein injuries should give reason to search for other manifestations of physical child abuse. This review article elucidates the differential diagnostics of malignant and benign joint tumors, pseudotumors of the joints and the peri-implant tissue, which are rare but important entities in rheumatology and orthopedic rheumatology. The tissue of origin includes the synovium, peri-implant tissue, peri-articular fibrous tissue and peri-articular osseous tissue. Pseudotumors can be viewed as independent but heterogeneous entities. These are essentially manifested as tumor-like depositions of crystals, calcareous deposits, vascular malformations, ectasia of the synovia and joint capsule tissue and pseudocysts. Other causes for pseudotumors are focal destructive inflammation (e.g. induced by foreign bodies), high grade synovitis and focal fibrinoid necrosis (i.e. see more rheumatoid nodules). Methodologically, these diagnostics are based on conventional standard staining methods, immunohistochemical analyses of formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded materials and on molecular diagnostic procedures. The latter are of great importance in cases of benign and malignant joint tumors. The most important immunohistochemical markers with respect to joint tumors are S100, SM-actin, CD68, CD34, STAT6, clusterin, Muc‑4, beta-catenin and MDM2-FISH. The following markers are recommended for the differential diagnostics and typing of periarticular tumor metastases in the pathology of rheumatic diseases AE1/AE3, CK8, p63, TTF‑1, TGB, PSA, androgen receptor, GATA, CD56, chromogranin, CDX‑2, SAT-B2, SALL4, estrogen and progesterone receptors, CD45LCA, CD30, CD79a and S100. Necrosis, inflammatory infiltrations and reparative inflammatory changes may complicate the histopathological classification. Therefore, a correlation with clinical, microbiological and radiological data in the sense of interdisciplinary synergistic diagnostics may be required.
Asprosin, an orexigenic hormone that stimulates hepatic glucose release, is elevated in insulin resistance and associated with obesity. Plasma asprosin concentrations may also be related to female sex hormone levels; higher levels are reported in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) but this may be related to peripheral insulin resistance also associated with PCOS. Clarification of female-specific factors influence on the plasma asprosin response is crucial for studies investigating asprosin. Therefore, this study determined the association of menstrual phase, oral contraceptive (OC) use (as a pharmacological influence on sex hormone levels) and training status (as a physiological influence on sex hormone levels) on plasma asprosin levels in pre-menopausal women.
Fasting plasma asprosin, 17β-estradiol (E2) and progesterone, were assessed in 32 healthy untrained and trained women with regular menstrual cycles (non-OC; n = 8 untrained, n = 6 trained) or using OC (n = 10 untrained, n = 8 trained) duriemales.
A significant increase in the incidence of overweight and obesity is observed among children and adolescents. This problem began to occur not only in healthy populations, but also among young diabetics. The aim of the study was to assess the nutritional status of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to those in a control group of healthy subjects as well as to determine the influence of the type of insulin therapy used.
The case-control study included 169 people aged 9-15 years. The study group (n = 85) consisted of Polish children with T1DM, and the control group (n = 84) consisted of healthy subjects. The assessment of the nutritional status included anthropometric measurements. Analysis of body composition was carried out by bioelectrical impedance analysis. To assess nutritional behavior a questionnaire was used. Approval was obtained from the ethics committee of the Medical University of Białystok (no. R-I-002/168/2017).
Median body mass index (BMI) value in the T1nutritional status than those using insulin pens.First in vivo brain conductivity reconstructions using Helmholtz MR-Electrical Properties Tomography (MR-EPT) have been published. However, a large variation in the reconstructed conductivity values is reported and these values differ from ex vivo conductivity measurements. Given this lack of agreement, we performed an in vivo study on eight healthy subjects to provide reference in vivo brain conductivity values. MR-EPT reconstructions were performed at 3 T for eight healthy subjects. Mean conductivity and standard deviation values in the white matter, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid (σWM, σGM, and σCSF) were computed for each subject before and after erosion of regions at tissue boundaries, which are affected by typical MR-EPT reconstruction errors. The obtained values were compared to the reported ex vivo literature values. To benchmark the accuracy of in vivo conductivity reconstructions, the same pipeline was applied to simulated data, which allow knowledge of ground truth conductivity. Provided sufficient boundary erosion, the in vivo σWM and σGM values obtained in this study agree for the first time with literature values measured ex vivo.
