Lenvatinib is a novel tyrosine kinase inhibitor that exhibits an antitumor effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). An established strategy that involves surgery and usage of lenvatinib for advanced HCC remains elusive.

A 58-year-old male patient with advanced HCC and untreated hepatitis B was referred to our hospital. The tumor at the right lobe was 10cm in diameter with right portal vein thrombus. Because of the possible lung metastasis and concern about the remaining hepatic function after extended right hepatectomy, lenvatinib was initiated before surgery. After the confirmation of a sharp decrease of tumor markers during the 3-week lenvatinib therapy, only a right portal vein transection was done leaving the enlargement of the left lobe for improved post-hepatectomy liver function while lenvatinib therapy was continued. The laparotomy revealed that the tumor was invading the right diaphragm. After 7weeks of lenvatinib administration after right portal vein transection, an extended right hepatectomy with resection of the tumor-invaded diaphragm was successfully done. The lung nodules that were suspected as metastases had disappeared. The patient has been doing well without any sign of recurrence for 1year.

The strategy involving the induction of lenvatinib to conversion hepatectomy including the portal vein transection was effective for advanced HCC.

2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose's (FDG) biodistribution limits the evaluation of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) and neurosarcoidosis (NS). While protocols for cardiac suppression exist, they can be inconvenient for patients and lead to incomplete cardiac suppression in many cases. Furthermore, FDG PET is limited in the detection of neurosarcoidosis due to an inability to suppress high level of physiological uptake within the brain. 3'-deoxy-3'-[
F]fluorothymidine (FLT) has been shown to accumulate in sarcoidosis lesions and this tracer lacks significant physiological myocardial and brain uptake, suggesting that this tracer may be useful for the assessment of sarcoidosis, including CS and NS, without the need for patient preparation. This prospective pilot study examined the performance of FLT vs FDG PET for systemic sarcoidosis, including cardiac and neural involvement.

Fourteen subjects with sarcoidosis were prospectively recruited and imaged with FDG- and FLT-PET. Two blinded, experienced readers independent 0.86, and 1.0, respectively). Inter-observer agreement for FLT was excellent for diagnosing sarcoidosis, CS and NS (κ = 0.81, 0.85, and 1.0, respectively) and comparable to that of FDG.

FLT-PET may be useful for the assessment of systemic sarcoidosis, as well as cardiac and neural involvement.

Transmembrane Transporters inhibitor The neural and morphological basis of multifunctionality in animals can provide a source of bioinspiration for robotic controllers. However, many existing approaches to modeling biological neural networks rely on computationally expensive models and tend to focus solely on the nervous system, often neglecting the biomechanics of the periphery. As a consequence, while these models are excellent tools for neuroscience, they fail to predict functional behavior in real time, which is a critical capability for robotic control. To meet the need for real-time multifunctional control, we have developed a hybrid Boolean model framework capable of modeling neural bursting activity and simple biomechanics at speeds faster than real time. Using this approach, we present a multifunctional model of Aplysia californica feeding that qualitatively reproduces three key feeding behaviors (biting, swallowing, and rejection), demonstrates behavioral switching in response to external sensory cues, and incorporates both known neural connectivity and a simple bioinspired mechanical model of the feeding apparatus. We demonstrate that the model can be used for formulating testable hypotheses and discuss the implications of this approach for robotic control and neuroscience.
Intracranial carotid artery occlusion represents an underinvestigated cause of acute ischemic stroke as well as an indication for mechanical thrombectomy. We investigated baseline and procedural characteristics, outcomes and predictors of outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke secondary to intracranial carotid artery occlusion.

Aretrospective analysis of the Italian Registry of Endovascular Treatment in Acute Stroke was performed. Patients with intracranial carotid artery occlusion (infraclinoid and supraclinoid) with or without cervical artery occlusion but with patent intracranial arteries were included. The 3‑month functional independence, mortality, successful reperfusion and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage were evaluated.

Intracranial carotid artery occlusion with patent intracranial arteries was diagnosed in 387 out of 4940 (7.8%) patients. The median age was 74 years and median baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was18. Functional independence was achieved in 13 intracranial carotid artery occlusion with patent intracranial arteries, presenting mostly as severe stroke, with an acceptable rate of 3‑month functional independence. Age, NIHSS at presentation and successful reperfusion were the best independent predictors of outcome.African cassava mosaic virus (ACMV) and East African cassava mosaic virus (EACMV) are among the major constraints to cassava productivity within tropical and sub-tropical regions, including Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Thus, virus indexing has become imperative to determine the status of cassava mosaic disease (CMD) in Ebonyi State, to implement appropriate preventive and control strategies. Seventy-eight cassava accessions obtained from different locations of Ebonyi State were phenotypically scored, using scales 1-5 depending on CMD symptomatic expressions, followed by multiplex-PCR and sequencing for validation. 11% of cassava accessions cultivated in Afikpo were resistant (RE) to ACMV compared to 8% of moderately-resistant (MR) accessions in Izzi and 55% of tolerant (TO) ACMV accessions in Ebonyi. 100% of cassava accessions in Onicha and 66% in Afikpo South were susceptible (SU) and highly susceptible (HS) to ACMV, respectively. With multiplex-PCR, 97.4% (ACMV) and 2.6% (EACMV) were positive. Dunn's multiple comparison tests of CMD mean incidence demonstrated differences (P  less then  0.
