Cataracts are a common consequence of aging; however, pathogenesis remains poorly understood. Here, we observed that after 3 months of age mice lacking the G protein-coupled leukocyte chemotactic receptor Fpr1 (N-formyl peptide receptor 1) began to develop bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts that progressed to lens rupture and severe degeneration, without evidence of either systemic or local ocular infection or inflammation. Consistent with this, Fpr1 was detected in both mouse and human lens in primary lens epithelial cells (LECs), the only cell type present in the lens; however, expression was confined to subcapsular LECs located along the anterior hemispheric surface. To maximize translucency, LECs at the equator proliferate and migrate posteriorly, then differentiate into lens fiber cells by nonclassical apoptotic signaling, which results in loss of nuclei and other organelles, including mitochondria which are a rich source of endogenous N-formyl peptides. In this regard, denucleation and posterior migration of LECs were abnormal in lenses from Fpr1-/- mice, and direct stimulation of LECs with the prototypic N-formyl peptide agonist fMLF promoted apoptosis. Thus, Fpr1 is repurposed beyond its immunoregulatory role in leukocytes to protect against cataract formation and lens degeneration during aging.Sirtuins (PfSIR2A and PfSIR2B) are implicated to play pivotal roles in the silencing of sub-telomeric genes and the maintenance of telomere length in P. falciparum 3D7 strain. Here, we identify the key factors that regulate the cellular abundance and activity of these two histone deacetylases. Our results demonstrate that PfSIR2A and PfSIR2B are transcriptionally downregulated at the mid-ring stage in response to febrile temperature. We tested and implemented a new and potentially widely applicable approach for collecting these data mandatory submission of low-value secondary fins (anal fins) from landed sharks by fishers and use of the fins to reconstruct catch species and size. Visual and low-cost genetic identification were used to determine species composition, and linear regression was applied to total length and anal fin base length for catch-size reconstruction. Many patients are not satisfied with chronic constipation (CC) treatments. The aim of this study was to identify factors linked to CC treatment satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
Our study population included patients who received CC treatment at a clinic or hospital. CC was diagnosed by a physician based on the patient's complaint. Treatment satisfaction was evaluated using the 28th question of the Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life questionnaire.
We conducted this study at 28 facilities. We included 167 patients (mean age 66.7±15.2years, malefemale ratio is 13.07). Sixty-eight (40.7%) of patients were satisfied with their constipation treatment. Treatment dissatisfaction of CC was significantly associated with frequency of bowel movement <3/week (odds ratio [OR]=0.376, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.156-0.904, P=0.029) or Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS) type 3 (OR=0.401, 95% CI 0.170-0.946, P=0.037).
Our study showed that CC patients with BSFS type3 were not satisfied with constipation treatment. In general, BSFS types 3-5 are defined as normal stools. Therefore, BSFS type 3 may be set as a treatment goal even though the patient is not satisfied. The pathophysiology of CC differs by region and patient background. Therefore, parameters used to define successful treatment will be different by patient or region. We should reconsider the positioning of BSFS type 3 to improve treatment satisfaction for CC.

Six barn owls were included in the study. Nerves originating from plexus were dissected individually, and findings of innervation areas of nerves were determined. Lumbosacral plexus of barn owl was observed to be formed by ventral rami of ten synsacral spinal nerves. It was found that while the r. cutaneus femoris lateralis, the n. obturatorius, the n. coxalis cranialis, the r. cutaneus femoris medialis, the n. cutaneus femoris cranialis and the n. femoralis originated from the lumbar plexus, the n. isciofemoralis, the n. cutaneus femoris caudalis, the n. coxalis caudalis and the n. ischiadicus originated from the sacral plexus. Consequently, when the results of the study were compared with information of different avian species, it was observed that differences focused on the formation of the lumbar and sacral plexuses and innervation level of digits.
