Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a common, self-limited, inflammatory papulosquamous skin disease with a possible viral etiology.

The goal of this study was to evaluate skin biophysical properties in patients with PR compared with uninvolved skin to better understand the pathogenesis of PR.

Stratum corneum hydration, transepidermal water loss, surface friction, pH, sebum, melanin, erythema, temperature, elasticity parameters (R0, R2, R5), thickness, and echodensity of the epidermis and dermis were measured on lesions of classic PR in 21 patients and compared with control sites (average of uninvolved perilesional and symmetrical skin) with a paired
test.

Elective introductory clerkships in dermatology serve a critical function in providing formative experiences to medical students interested in the field. Although dermatology clerkships play a pivotal role in students' career choices and residency preparation, the assessment systems used to evaluate students on these clerkships are widely different and likely affect student experiences.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between dermatology clerkship assessment systems and student experiences through interviews with students about their clerkship reflections and perceptions of assessment.

The authors contacted clerkship directors via the Association of Professors of Dermatology mailing list and invited them to provide a description of the assessment system at their institution. Physician burnout is a response to chronic work stress characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced sense of personal accomplishment. Resiliency is the ability to respond to chronic stress in a healthy and adaptive manner. No prior studies have specifically examined the prevalence of burnout and resilience in Mohs surgeons.

This study aimed to assess the current well-being of Mohs surgeons and specific resilient behaviors that can protect against burnout.

A cross-sectional electronic survey was sent to members of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. The survey combined the validated Maslach Burnout Inventory and The Resilience Profile ©.

Of the 1450 surgeons registered with the American College of Mohs Surgery listserv, 137 (9.4%) participated in the survey. Of those who participated, 46% of surgeons had at least 1 symptom of burnout based on a high emotional exhaustion and/or high depersonalization score. Female surgeons (56%) were found to have higher levels of burnout compared with male surgeons (40%). Individual resilient behaviors protective of burnout include the ability to pivot and exhibition of self-control.

Each year, 20,000 patients aged <10 years are diagnosed with psoriasis. Pediatric-onset psoriasis has many similarities to adult-onset disease, and previous studies suggest that the incidence might be increasing in both populations.

The challenges that arise when treating patients with psoriasis, especially those age <12 years, are summarized, as well as the limited available treatment options for treating pediatric patients with psoriasis and the evidence supporting each of them.

Recently published guidelines by the American Academy of Dermatology and the National Psoriasis Foundations, as well as guidelines published by the German Society of Dermatology, provide considerable insight in managing patients who have this condition. The latest studies on pediatric psoriasis treatment were reviewed, including recent and current clinical trials with U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved and nonapproved medications, case reports, case series, and reviews.
