Another group of rats that received the same pharmacological treatment was tested in the object location test (OLT). Brains were removed and processed to assess neuronal degeneration, synaptic protein levels, and dendritic remodeling in the hippocampus. Cannabidiol treatment attenuated ischemia-induced memory deficits. In rats that were subjected to TGCI, CBD attenuated hippocampal CA1 neurodegeneration and increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. Additionally, CBD protected neurons against the deleterious effects of TGCI on dendritic spine number and the length of dendritic arborization. These results suggest that the neuroprotective effects of CBD against TGCI-induced memory impairments involve changes in synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus.
Adolescence has been stated as a period in which body image and eating difficulties' have its greatest expression, especially in females. Nonetheless, protective factors, such as body appreciation and compassion, are not thoroughly studied in this developmental stage. The current study hypothesized that competences for self-compassion and receiving others' compassion associate positively with social safeness, and the three variables with body appreciation. Moreover, the association between body appreciation and disordered eating was analysed. A sample of Portuguese female adolescents was used.
205 participants, aged between 12 and 18, completed a set of self-report measures in the school context. Data were explored via descriptive, correlational and path analysis.
Path analysis indicated that self-compassion and receiving compassion from others associate positively with feelings of social safeness which, in turn, associate with higher body appreciation. All the variables in study associated indirectly and negatively with disordered eating, and body appreciation presented a direct and negative association withdisordered eating.
Findings of the current study may suggest the pertinence of developing programs for female adolescents that include the cultivation of compassionate and affiliative skills to promote positive body image and toprevent or intervene with disordered eating symptoms, with potential effects on overall well-being and mental health.
Cross-sectional descriptive study, Level V.
Cross-sectional descriptive study, Level V.Several case reports have described severe postoperative enteritis shortly after total colectomy for ulcerative colitis. The very low incidence of this condition makes diagnosis and treatment difficult, and the appropriate treatment strategy is unclear. We report two cases of enteritis after surgery for ulcerative colitis, which were treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor-α therapy. Case 1 involved a 22-year-old man with symptoms, such as nausea 40 days after total colectomy. Gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed patchy obliteration of the vascular pattern, erosions in the duodenum, and superficial ulcers in the small intestine. His symptoms and endoscopic findings immediately improved upon administration of infliximab; clinical remission lasted 5 years with continuous administration. Case 2 involved a 64-year-old man, who had a large amount of watery diarrhea from ileostomy that increased 5 days after total colectomy; gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed extensive ulcers in the small intestine. Symptoms and endoscopic findings improved with prednisolone, but relapsed with tapering of the corticosteroid. Administration of adalimumab resulted in marked improvement of enteritis. However, the small intestine developed a pinhole stricture, and partial resection of the small intestine was performed. Our experience with two cases indicates that anti-tumor necrosis factor-α therapy may play an important role in ulcerative colitis-related postoperative enteritis.
Geographic access to novel oncology therapies, and the extent to which it may vary by potential sites of care, regions, and population characteristics, is poorly understood. We examined how expanding access to chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) Tcell therapy administration sites impacts patient travel distances and time.
We used geographic information system techniques to calculate shortest travel distance and time between patients with relapsed/refractory diffuse large Bcell lymphoma (DLBCL) and the nearest CAR Tcell therapy administration site in three scenarios academic hospitals; academic and community multispecialty hospitals; and academic and community multispecialty hospitals plus nonacademic specialty oncology network centers. Main outcome measures were differences in travel distance and time among the scenarios and the relationship between travel time and socioeconomic status, race, rural-urban areas, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma clusters. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma incidence, socioeconomic status, and admini, and sociodemographic equity in the geographic allocation of CAR Tcell therapy.
Many patients with DLBCL have long travel times to an academic hospital that administers CAR T cell therapy. MEK pathway Expanding access to care through site-of-care planning will help address regional, rural-urban, and sociodemographic equity in the geographic allocation of CAR T cell therapy.
We want to investigate the effect of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) on cerebral edema induced by ischemic stroke in rats and explore whether inhibiting the expression of AQP4 through acetazolamide (AZA) could attenuate brain edema and protect cerebral function.
The Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into four groups sham + saline group, sham + AZA group, AZA intervention group, and nonintervention group. Each group was divided into five subgroups according to the time of cerebral ischemia (6h, 1day, 3days, 5days, and 7days). The model of cerebral infarction in rats was adopted by means of the bilateral carotid arteries ligation (2-VO) method. The rats inintervention group were given intraperitoneal injection of AZA (35mg/kg/day). Hematoxylin-eosin staining was performed for pathological analysis of the infarcted area. The brain water content was calculated to evaluate the degree of brain edema. The messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein expressions of AQP4 in the brain were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry, respectively.
