Purpose This simulation curriculum is structured to teach the use of common eye assessment equipment and corneal foreign removal techniques using harvested cow eye models, the ophthalmologic burr, and the hollow-bore needle. Methods This curriculum involves using one self-assessment (SA) station and three skills stations. The skill stations teach the use of the iCareTonometer, Woods Lamp, and Slit Lamp, and train corneal foreign body removal using a burr and hollow-bore needle. Results Sixteen first, second, and third-year (PGY 1-3) residents of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Emergency Medicine participated. 100% indicated this should be an annual training with 87% indicating this was highly realistic. There was a 44% Pre-Sim to 94% Post-Sim SA for improvement with iCareTonometer skill. There was a 7% Pre-Sim to 100% post-Sim SA for improvement with Slit-Lamp skill. There was a 32% Pre-Sim to 100% Post-Sim SA improvement with Woods Lamp skill. For CFB removal, there was a 13% Pre-Sim to 94% Post-Sim SA for improvement with burr and hollow-bore needle skill. Epacadostat Conclusion The self-assessments indicated that this simulation was successful in leading these emergency medicine residents to attaining enhanced self-assessed competencies in the use of common eye assessment equipment and for corneal foreign body removal using the burr and the hollow-bore needle. To establish curriculum globalization, reliability, and competency, larger test groups will have to be studied and objective qualified testers will need to assess competencies. © 2020 Thompson.Background Incorporating electronic medical record systems (EMRs) into the healthcare system is not only about modernizing the health system, but is about saving lives by facilitating communication and practicing evidence-based decision. Globally, more than 50% of EMR projects fail before they reach their target. Even though EMRs are an essential tool for health care, their adoption and utilization remains low in developing countries including Ethiopia. Objective The aim of this study was to determine health professionals' readiness and associated factors toward the implementation of EMRs in four selected primary hospitals in Ethiopia. Methods An institutionbased cross-sectional study supplemented with a qualitative approach was conducted on 414 health professionals from March 2 to May 5, 2018 in four selected primary hospitals in Ethiopia. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the quantitative data and in-depth interviews were employed for the qualitative data. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Descriptive statistics, bivariable, and multivariable logistic regression analyses were done. An adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with 95% CI was used to determine the association between the determinants and the outcome variable. Results More than half (258; 62.3%) of health professionals were ready to use the electronic medical recording system. EMR knowledge (AOR = 2.64; 95% CI [1.62, 4.29]), attitude (AOR = 1.63; 95% CI [1.01, 2.63]), computer literacy (AOR = 3.30; 95% CI [2.05, 5.31]), and EMR training (AOR = 3.63, ;5% CI [1.69, 5.80]) were significantly associated with EMR readiness. Conclusion and Recommendation In general, the overall readiness of health professionals for EMR implementation was found to be low. Comprehensive packages of capacity-building are crucial to raise the level of knowledge, attitude, and computer skill among health workers. © 2020 Awol et al.Introduction Literature in education and training supports the notion that distance learning (DL) is the most effective mode of learning for health care workers to improve the quality of patient care. However, implementing DL requires pre-assessing learners' perspectives and attitudes for providing better delivery, essential support, and facilities. This study aimed to identify the viewpoints and attitudes of dental graduates toward DL in medical education and their point views of the effectiveness and efficacy of DL tools. Methods A structured, self-administered questionnaire was distributed to registered adult graduates working in government- or private hospitals in a permanent position or for a long term (3 months or more). Data were collected and analyzed. Results Two-thirds (67.9%) of the participants had previously attended a DL course. The highest ranked items on the participants' views on DL were ease of access, ability to take the course from any location, and be taught from anywhere in the world. Their perception of DL was analyzed in relation to gender and previous exposure to DL. Conclusion This investigation revealed a positive attitude among graduates on the effectiveness of DL. Most respondents appreciated DL's convenience in terms of time flexibility and online attendance. Residents' attitudes toward DL and DL characteristics are major factors to consider when instituting or planning for DL. So this study aims to assess perceived clinical competence and associated factors among undergraduate medicine and health science students at Dilla University, medical and health Science College. Methods Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 267 students. Initially, departments were stratified, then simple random sample was used to select students. A 2 days of training was given for data collectors and supervisors. Data were entered into Epi-info version 7 and analyzed using Stata version 12.
