[The fresh research of the Russian orthodontic mini-screw].
To estimate the prevalence of depression and loneliness during the US COVID-19 response, and examine their associations with frequency of social and sexual connections.

We conducted an online cross-sectional survey of a nationally representative sample of American adults (n = 1010), aged 18-94, running from April 10-20, 2020. We assessed depressive symptoms (CES-D-10 scale), loneliness (UCLA 3-Item Loneliness scale), and frequency of in-person and remote social connections (4 items, e.g., hugging family member, video chats) and sexual connections (4 items, e.g., partnered sexual activity, dating app use).

One-third of participants (32%) reported depressive symptoms, and loneliness was high [mean (SD) 4.4 (1.7)]. Those with depressive symptoms were more likely to be women, aged 20-29, unmarried, and low-income. Very frequent in-person connections were generally associated with lower depression and loneliness; frequent remote connections were not.

Depression and loneliness were elevated during the early US COVID-19 response. Those who maintained very frequent in-person, but not remote, social and sexual connections had better mental health outcomes. While COVID-19 social restrictions remain necessary, it will be critical to expand mental health services to serve those most at-risk and identify effective ways of maintaining social and sexual connections from a distance.

To characterize the association of social class discrimination with the timing of first cigarette use and progression to DSM-IV nicotine dependence (ND) in Black and White youth, examining variation by race, parent vs. youth experiences of discrimination, socioeconomic status (SES), and stage of smoking.

Data were drawn from 1461 youth (55.2% Black, 44.8% White; 50.2% female) and mothers in a high-risk family study of alcohol use disorder and related conditions. Cox proportional hazard regression analyses were conducted, using youth's and mother's social class discrimination to predict first cigarette use and progression to ND, stratifying by race. Interactions between discrimination and SES indicators (parental education and household income) were tested. Adjusted models included psychiatric covariates.

In the adjusted first cigarette use models, neither youth's nor mother's social class discrimination was asignificant predictor among Black youth, but mother's discrimination was associated with increass and the need to explore possible mechanisms, such as socialization processes. This work describes the characterization and genome annotation of Salmonella phage vB_SalM_8-19 (referred to as 8-19) isolated from sewage samples collected in a pig farm in Jilin, China. This phage was capable of infecting 60% Salmonella strains in our lab stock. The genome of phage 8-19 is composed of linear double-stranded DNA that is 52,648 bp in length with a G + C content of 46.02%; containing 74 ORFs and no tRNA genes. In October 2019, phylogenetic analyses indicated that phage 8-19 might belong to a novel cluster among the other similar phages which have not been specifically classified within some new genus in family Myoviridae. Recently, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) defined phage 8-19 and its related phages as genus Rosemountvirus, family Myoviridae. This new genus, known as Rosemountvirus, is rarely reported in the literature.During cultivation of a gastric fungus, Coniochaeta polymorpha, growth of Nocardia colonies on top of the fungal culture raised the question whether bacteria originated from inside of fungus. In this study, the likelihood of intracellular origin of bacteria as well as interaction of two microorganisms was assessed. Fluorescence and electron microscopy showed occurrence of several bacterial cells in fungal cytoplasm. A thick biofilm was observed on the surface of co-culture compared with thin one on bacterial and none on fungal monocultures. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) micrographs of co-culture showed a dense network of fungal and bacterial cells embedded in a slime-like layer. Dual cultures revealed antagonistic activity of both fungus and bacteria against three Candida species. These findings indicate that Nocardia isolate identified in this study originated from the inside of fungus C. polymorpha. Intracellular bacteria could benefit the fungal host by producing a rigid biofilm and an antifungal compound. The endophytic microbiome uses mechanisms such as the secretion of diffusible antibiotic molecules, synthesis and release of volatile organic compounds, and/or toxins to protect plants. The aim of this research was to study the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) profile as well as the diffusible secondary metabolites produced and released by endophytic bacteria isolated from tomato plants that in in-vitro assays prevented growth of pathogenic fungi. Bacteria belonging to seven genera (Acinetobacter, Arthrobacter, Bacillus, Microbacterium, Pantoea, Pseudomonas, and Stenotrophomonas) were isolated from different tissues of tomato plants with and without symptoms of Gray leaf spot, a disease provoked by Stemphylium lycopersici. In vitro, antagonistic assays were performed and the effect of volatile and soluble compounds released by endophytic bacteria on the growth of pathogenic fungi was determined. The VOCs synthesized by the endophytes were extracted, identified and quantified. These isolates representatives of seven bacterial genera inhibited the growth of three fungal pathogens of tomato S. lycopersici, Alternaria alternata and Corynespora cassiicola, which was related to the synthesis of soluble compounds as well as VOCs. Endophytes synthesize and release different VOCs, probably due to the different type of interaction that each bacterium establishes with the fungus, presenting a range of fungal growth inhibition.
