The first metal-free ring opening/trifluoromethylthiolation of cycloalkanols for the formation of remote C(sp3)-SCF3 bonds has been developed. A variety of trifluoromethylthiolated carbonyl compounds that are otherwise difficult to achieve were prepared in good yields under mild reaction conditions. The reaction is assumed to proceed via C-C bond cleavage of the alkoxyl radical species generated via a photoredox-enabled intramolecular proton-coupled electron transfer process, followed by trifluoromethylthiolation of the resulting C-centered radical with the N-(trifluoromethylthio)phthalimide reagent.A new strategy is described for the direct conversion of unsaturated 3,5-dihydroxy-diarylheptanoids to dimeric products assembled on trans-2,8-dioxabicyclo[4.4.0]decane frameworks. The key atom-economical acid-mediated coupling creates 2 rings and 4 new stereocenters in a single-pot process. Oxygen-18 labeling studies are in accord with reactions proceeding via a cascade mechanism involving carbocationic intermediates. This approach enabled the concise total syntheses of analogues of the natural product blepharocalyxin D in 4 steps from simple starting materials.Thin film solid oxide fuel cells (TF-SOFCs) are attracting attention due to their ability to operate at comparatively lower temperatures (400-650 °C) that are unattainable for conventional anode-supported SOFCs (650-800 °C). However, limited cathode performance and cell scalability remain persistent issues. Here, we report a new approach of fabricating yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-based TF-SOFCs via a scalable magnetron sputtering process. Notable is the development and deposition of a porous La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O2.95(LSCF)-based cathode with a unique fibrous nanostructure. This all-sputtered cell shows an open-circuit voltage of ∼1.0 V and peak power densities of ∼1.7 and ∼2.5 W/cm2 at 600 and 650 °C, respectively, under hydrogen fuel and air along with showing stable performance in short-term testing. The power densities obtained in this work are the highest among YSZ-based SOFCs at these low temperatures, which demonstrate the feasibility of fabricating exceptionally high-performance TF-SOFC cells with distinctive dense or porous nanostructures for each layer, as desired, by a sputtering process. This work illustrates a new, potentially low-cost, and scalable platform for the fabrication of next-generation TF-SOFCs with excellent power output and stability. Here is reported the first example of an organocatalyzed coupling between pyrrole and isocyanates in a nanoconfined space. The hexameric resorcinarene capsule C is able to catalyze the direct coupling between isocyanates and pyrroles to give amidopyrroles with excellent yields and selectivities. The reaction catalyzed by C prevents the use of expensive and poorly atom-economical reagents. As in natural enzymes, the cavity of C is able to discriminate between isomeric substrates.A versatile method for the synthesis of enantioenriched N-H sulfoximines is reported. The approach stems from the organomagnesium-mediated ring opening of novel cyclic sulfonimidate templates. The reactions proceed in high yield and with excellent stereofidelity with alkyl, aryl, and heteroaryl Grignard reagents. The chiral auxiliary is readily removed from the resultant sulfoximines via an unusual oxidative debenzylation protocol that utilizes molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant. This provides a general strategy for the synthesis of highly enantioenriched N-H sulfoximines. One key limitation of artificial skin-like materials is the shortened service life caused by mechanical damages during practical applications. The ability to self-heal can effectively extend the material service life, reduce the maintenance cost, and ensure safety. Therefore, it is important and necessary to fabricate materials with simultaneously mechanical and electrical self-healing behavior in a facile and convenient way. Herein, we report a stretchable and conductive self-healing elastomer based on intermolecular networks between poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) through a facile and convenient postreduction and one-pot method. The introduction of rGO provides the PAA-GO elastomers with good mechanical stability and electrical properties. Moreover, this material exhibited both electrical and mechanical self-healing properties. After cutting, the elastomers self-healed quickly (∼30 s) and efficiently (∼95%) at room temperature. The elastomers were accurate and reliable in detecting external strain even after healing. The elastomers were further applied for strain sensors, which were attached directly to human skin to monitor external movements, including finger bending and wrist twisting.Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy has been considered a useful technique for investigating chemical components by selectively targeting the vibration mode of chemical structures. Its practical application to the observation of molecular structures and dynamics in complicated biological environments requires broad spectral coverage with both high resolution and a high signal-to-noise ratio. Here, we demonstrate a two-color SRS microscopy employing a balanced detection scheme and a spectral focusing method. Two different SRS signals are generated with pump and Stokes laser pulse pairs in perpendicular polarization, where each of them acts as an intensity reference for the other, significantly reducing the background noise level close to the shot-noise limit even with a fiber-based femtosecond laser system. The high spectral resolution comparable to that of spontaneous Raman scattering spectroscopy is achieved with the spectral focusing method. The two-color SRS images are obtained for a mixture of polymer beads and for the distributions of lipids and proteins in U2OS cells. The efflux of anticancer agents mediated by P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is one of the main causes of multidrug resistance (MDR) and eventually leads to chemotherapy failure. ARS1620 To overcome this problem, the delivery of anticancer agents in combination with a P-gp inhibitor using nanocarrier systems is considered an effective strategy. On the basis of the physiological compatibility and excellent drug loading ability of erythrocytes, we hypothesized that nanoerythrocytes could be used for the codelivery of an anticancer agent and a P-gp inhibitor to overcome MDR in breast cancer. Herein, a folic acid-modified nanoerythrocyte system (PTX/TQR NPs@NanoRBC-PEG/FA) was prepared to simultaneously transport paclitaxel and tariquidar, and the in vitro and in vivo characteristics of this delivery system were evaluated through several experiments. The results indicated that the average diameter and surface potential of this nanocarrier system were 159.8 ± 1.4 nm and -10.98 mV, respectively. Within 120 h, sustained release of paclitaxel was observed in both pH 6.
