Integrating the identity engagement model (Cohen, Purdie-Vaughns, & Garcia, 2012) with the process model of stereotype threat (Schmader, Johns, & Forbes, 2008), we categorized STIs into 3 types belief-based, identity-based, and resilience-based STIs. Combining 251 effect sizes from 181 experiments, we found an overall effect size of d = 0.44, with the intervention group outperforming the control group. Subgroup analyses showed that although all 3 types of STIs helped counter stereotype threat, primary-appraisal-based (i.e., belief-based and identity-based) STIs were more effective than secondary-appraisal-based (i.e., resilience-based) STIs. We also traced the theoretical roots of 11 specific intervention strategies and showed that 9 of them yielded significant effect sizes. Moreover, we found evidence of publication bias regarding some but not all intervention types. These findings' theoretical and practical implications, as well as methodological issues and future research directions for the STI literature, are discussed. At the same time, it isn't clear that investigators and reviewers prioritize psychometric soundness to a degree that would allow one to have sufficient confidence in conclusions regarding constructs. The purposes of the present article are to (a) examine current scale development and evaluation practices in JAP; (b) compare these practices to recommended practices, previous practices, and practices in other journals; and (c) use these comparisons to make recommendations for reviewers, editors, and investigators regarding the creation and evaluation of measures including Excel-based calculators for various indices. Finally, given that model complexity appears to have increased the need for short scales, we offer a user-friendly R Shiny app (https//orgscience.uncc.edu/about-us/resources) that identifies the subset of items that maximize a variety of psychometric criteria rather than merely maximizing alpha. The Indonesia Basic Health Research 2018 indicates that Indonesian children are still among the shortest in the world. When referred to World Health Organization Child Growth Standards (WHOCGS), the prevalence of stunting reaches up to 43% in several Indonesian districts. Indonesian National Growth Reference Charts (INGRC) were established in order to better distinguish between healthy short children and children with growth disorders. We analyzed height and weight measurements of healthy Indonesian children using INGRC and WHOCGS.
6972 boys and 5800 girls (n=12,772), aged 0-59 months old, from Bandung District were measured. Z-scores of length/height and body mass index were calculated based on INGRC and WHOCGS.
Under 5-year-old Indonesian children raised in Bandung are short and slim. Mean height z-scores of boys is -2.03 [standard deviation (SD) 1.31], mean height z-scores of girls is -2.03 (SD 1.31) when referred to WHOCGS indicating that over 50% of these children are stunted. Bandung children are stead applying INGRC that closely mirror height and weight increments in Bandung children. INGRC appear superior for practical and clinical purposes, such as detecting growth and developmental disorders.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), is a biologically heterogeneous disease where diagnosis, treatment and prognosis is heavily dependent on the correct characterization of the immunophenotype of each case.
To describe the immunophenotypic and laboratory features of a cohort of Sri Lankan children and adults with ALL and to compare them with those reported in other series.
Records of 229 patients who were suspected of having acute leukaemia and referred for flow cytometry to the Asiri Hospital Sri Lanka, between August 2009 and October 2013 were reviewed. Referrals were from across the country including the National Cancer Institute.
Sixty seven percent were children below 12 years of age. 80% had B-lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL), 20% T- lymphoblastic leukaemia (T-ALL). In children, the peak age of diagnosis was between 2-6 years in B-ALL (61%) and 3-6 years (43.7%) in T-ALL. Incidence was commoner in males in all age groups and subtypes except in the adult B ALL group where the incidence was equal. Ninety three percent of paediatric B-ALL and 67% adult B-ALL were CD10 positive common ALL. In T-ALL cytoplasmic expression of CD3 was 100%. nTdT was the most commonly expressed immature marker, in B-ALL - 91% and in T-ALL- 69%. At least one myeloid antigen was present in 34% of B-ALL cases and 60% of T-ALL cases.
This study represents the first immunophenotype based description of ALL in Sri Lanka. Age, sex distribution, ALL subtypes and the immunophenotypic profile of each subtype mirrored those of previous studies.
