Several studies have noted that vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms are involved in the susceptibility to Coronary artery disease (CAD). Nonetheless, the results have been inconclusive. Here, we performed the most up-to-date analysis of the association between VDR gene polymorphisms and risk of CAD. We conducted a comprehensive systematic search in the major electronic database, including Scopus and PubMed to look up for relevant studies evaluating the association between the VDR gene FokI (rs2228570), TaqI (rs731236), BsmI (rs1544410), and ApaI (rs7975232) polymorphisms and susceptibility to CAD published before December 2019. The level of association between VDR gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to CAD in the polled analysis was calculated by odds ratio (OR) and the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). We found 14 articles containing 20,398 cases and 9371 controls. The analysis revealed that all genetic models in the FokI SNP were associated with increased risk of CAD. Furthermore, for the ApaI SNP, except recessive model, all other genetic models significantly increased the risk of CAD in the overall analysis. In addition, it was divulged that both FokI and ApaI SNPs were involved in increasing the risk of CAD in Asians and Europeans in a number of models. FokI and ApaI polymorphisms may confer a susceptibility genetic risk factor for development of CAD, particularly in the Asian population.A new colorimetric aptasensor equipped with a novel composite of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets and copper oxide(I) (Cu2O) nanocrystals is presented for Salmonella typhimurium (S .typhimurium). The dual-purpose structure of this composite simultaneously contributes to superb peroxidase-like activity and interaction with a label-free aptamer. Although g-C3N4@Cu2O effectively creates a visible blue color following the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), this catalytic activity of the composite severely decreases after the interaction with aptamers. In the presence of S. typhimurium in sample, aptamers bound to their specific target. Subsequently, g-C3N4@Cu2O catalytic activity was enhanced in proportion to S. typhimurium concentration. Under optimized conditions, this aptasensor exhibited an excellent detection performance in a range from 1.5 × 101 to 1.5 × 105 CFU/ml, with a detection limit of 15 CFU/ml. Besides, portable detection of S. typhimurium by paper-based model of this method operated successfully in just 6 min. Analysis of spiked milk samples revealed high potential of this method as a sensitive, rapid, and label-free promising tool for S. typhimurium detection. A novel composite of g-C3N4 nanosheets and Cu2O nanocrystals was constructed through this study, which represented a collection of significant properties for designing an aptasensor. The simultaneous capability of this composite for peroxidase-like activity and interaction with aptamer led to design a fast accurate biosensor for detecting as low as 15 CFU/ml Salmonella typhimurium as one of the most important foodborne pathogens which is a persistent burden for societies.
To determine furfural biotransformation capabilities of Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1 and Acinetobacter schindleri ACE.

Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1 and A. schindleri ACE could not use furfural as sole carbon source but when acetate was used as substrate, ADP1 and ACE biotransformed 1g furfural/l in 5 and 9h, respectively. In both cases, the product of this biotransformation was difurfuryl-ether as shown by FT-IR and
H and
C NMR spectroscopy. The presence of furfural decreased the specific growth rate in acetate by 27% in ADP1 and 53% in ACE. For both strains, the MIC of furfural was 1.25g/l. Nonetheless, ADP1 biotransformed 2g furfural/l at a rate of 1g/l/h in the stationary phase of growth. A transcriptional analysis of possible dehydrogenases involved in this biotransformation, identified that the areB and frmA genes were highly overexpressed after the exposure of ADP1 to furfural. The products of these genes are a benzyl-alcohol dehydrogenase and an alcohol dehydrogenase.

Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1 is a candidate for the biological detoxification of furfural, a fermentation inhibitor present in lignocellulosic hydrolysates, with the possible direct involvement of the AreB and FrmA enzymes in the process.

The effects of solid-solution ratio, pH, temperature, reaction time, and metal concentration on sorption were analyzed. In order to better understand the adsorption mechanisms, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) were used to analyze the soil specimen before and after sorption. Three adsorption kinetic models and three adsorption isotherm models were used to analyze the adsorption characteristics. Thermodynamic parameters including changes in the Gibbs free energy (ΔG0), enthalpy (ΔH0), and entropy (ΔS0) were also calculated. Sorption capacity of SSC was compared with other clay minerals reported in the literatures. The results show that the selectivity sequence is Pb(II) > Cd(II) > As(V) > Cr(VI), with equilibrium sorption capacities of 26.46, 8.90, 2.80, and 1.85 mg g-1, respectively. Adsorption is largay minerals, natural SSC exhibits comparable adsorption capacity and thus can potentially be used as a landfill liner material to retard the migration of heavy metals.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may contribute to metabolic and inflammatory deregulation but previous studies failed to consider sleep duration, sleep fragmentation, insomnia, and daytime sleepiness as potential confounders.

Consecutive non-diabetic middle-aged participants from the ELSA-Brasil cohortwere invited to perform a clinical evaluation, home sleep study for 1 night, and wrist actigraphy for 7 days. Selleckchem PF-573228 OSA was defined by an apnea-hypopnea index ≥ 15 events/h. Participants were stratified according to the presence of OSA measuring the following markers fasting glucose, glucose tolerance test, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, fasting insulin, insulin after 2 h of glucose load, glycated hemoglobin, total cholesterol and their fractions, triglycerides, C-reactive protein, TNF-alpha, interleukin-6, interleukin-10, leptin, adiponectin, E-selectin, ADMA, MCP-1, TGF, apolipoprotein B, fibrinogen, and lipoprotein(a). Differences between groups were identified by chi-square test and ANOVA.
