05) in all above parameters compared to the doxorubicin control. A significant reduction was observed in the total antioxidant capacity, reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, superoxide dismutase and catalase activity while the lipid peroxidation and myeloperoxidase activity were significantly increased in the doxorubicin control group compared to the normal control (p less then 0.05). Pre-treatment with Cinnamomum bark showed a significant decrease in lipid peroxidation, myeloperoxidase activity and significant increase in rest of the parameters compared to the doxorubicin control (p less then 0.05). Selleck SBE-β-CD Histopathological analysis revealed a preserved appearance of the myocardium and lesser degree of cellular changes of necrosis in rats pre-treated with Cinnamomum extract. In conclusion, Cinnamomum bark extract has the potential to significantly reduce doxorubicin induced oxidative stress and inflammation in Wistar rats. The approval of the novel long-acting HIV injection; Cabenuva®- Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine injectable formulation) and the recent call by the World Health Organization for promoting community-based ART management, underscore the remarkable progress towards meeting the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 95-95-95 targets by 2030. As the availability of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for the treatment of HIV/AIDS has increased in resource-limited settings, there has been a move to develop and implement alternative treatment delivery models such as Differentiated Service Delivery (DSD) in high prevalence countries to meet the global targets for HIV treatment while maintaining the quality of care. However, there is limited data on the involvement of community pharmacies in the delivery of ART within the community. Although, in western countries, several studies have documented the different roles community pharmacists can play in the management of HIV/AIDS. Community pharmacists are the most accessible and first points of health care for most clients. They are trusted, highly trained health care professionals. They should be incorporated and allowed to administer the Cabenuva® injection if the battle against the HIV pandemic is to be totally won. In this paper, we, therefore, aim to explore how the community pharmacist can be positioned in HIV service delivery regarding the administration of the Novel long-acting Cabenuva® injection formulation. It is therefore recommended that the Nigerian government embrace community pharmacy-led drug administration initiatives and embark on accredited training programmes for the profession in line with drug administration services. The government should also put in place necessary funding mechanisms for community pharmacists for the extra workload placed on them in administering injection drug formulation in their respective pharmacies.Hand hygiene is one of the effective measures for reducing the transmission of infections. link2 Alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing ethanol or isopropanol are considered efficient alternatives to handwashing with water and soap. Despite being effective against a broad-spectrum of microbes, fining an effective alternative to the alcohol-based hand sanitizers became a necessity owning to the limitations associated with their use, such as skin dryness, irritant contact dermatitis, and intoxication upon their accidental ingestion. Furthermore, in certain circumstances when the demand for alcohol exceeds the supply, like in the current COVID19 pandemic, formulating an effective non-alcoholic hand sanitizer would be a potential solution. Therefore, in this study, a non-alcoholic hand sanitizer containing benzalkonium chloride (BKC) as an active ingredient was prepared and evaluated as a less irritant and more persistent hand sanitizer gel. The hand gel was characterized by pH, viscosity, and spreadability. Results showed that this product has low viscosity, high spreadability and pH of 6.3, which is less likely to cause skin irritation. The antibacterial assessment (zone of inhibition) of the BKC-based hand sanitizer demonstrated antibacterial activities against nine out of eleven gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains, while the acceptability study on ten participants showed no signs of skin irritation nor redness upon its application. Consequently, this non-alcoholic based hand sanitizer is suggested as a potential alternative to alcohol-based hand gels.
Health outcomes and policies is a growing areas that is needed in the healthcare culture. This study aimed to examine the availability, extent and type of teaching curricula (pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, patient safety) in Arab countries.
A retrospective observational study was conducted during the period of November 2019 to January 2020. The collection strategy was performed by listing of pharmacy colleges in each country and then reviewing the institutions' websites that met the inclusion criteria. Five criteria were utilized to assess the availability of these courses full-time mandatory, full-time elective, partial mandatory, partial elective, and not offered.
One hundred ninety-one academic institutions were screened during the study period. Of those, 151 (79.1%) institutions were included in the study and their curricular descriptions were retrieved from their electronic websites. Pharmacoeconomics was the most taught subject among the four subjects. It was offered ithese subjects to ensure they meet the work needs and advanced pharmacy practice transformation.Toddalia asiatica (L.) Lam., belonging to Toddalia genus of Rutaceae family, is a folk medicine in China used for hundreds of years. The whole plant can be used as medicine, especially the root that used to be applied in the folk. In recent decades, with the in-depth research from domestic and foreign researchers, it has gradually been discovered that the chemical components in T. asiatica are mainly coumarins and alkaloids. Its pharmacological effects are manifested in anti-inflammatory and analgesic, hemostatic coagulation, anti-tumor, treatment of cardiovascular diseases, etc. It has a wide range of clinical applications and significant effects on rheumatism, pain, wound bleeding, and bruises. Due to its important research value, in this article, the chemical compositions and pharmacological effects of T. asiatica are comprehensively expounded in recent years in order to provide a reference for the related research and application of this medicinal material, which were carried out through a bibliometric search using the Science Citation Index- Expanded (SCIE) database, web of science, Google scholar and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and all that.Hirsutella are globally distributed entomopathogenic fungi that offer important economic applications in biological control and biomedicine. Hirsutella was suppressed in favour of Ophiocordyceps affected by the ending of dual nomenclature for pleomorphic fungi in 2011. Currently, Hirsutella has been resurrected as a genus under Ophiocordycipitaceae. In this study, we introduce two new species of Hirsutella, based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses. Hirsutellaflava and H.kuankuoshuiensis are pathogenic on different species of larval Lepidoptera in China. Hirsutellaflava primarily differs from related species by its awl-shaped base; long and narrow neck, 24-40.8 × 2.2-2.5 μm; long and narrow cymbiform or fusoid conidia, 6.5-10 × 2.1-4.3 μm. Hirsutellakuankuoshuiensis has two types of phialides and distinctive 9.9-12.6 × 2.7-4.5 μm, clavate or botuliform conidia. The distinctions amongst the new species and phylogenetic relationships with other Hirsutella species are discussed.During our survey of the diversity of woody litter fungi in China and Thailand, three Hermatomyces species were collected from dead woody twigs of Dipterocarpus sp. link3 (Dipterocarpaceae) and Ehretiaacuminata (Boraginaceae). Both morphology and multigene analyses revealed two taxa as new species (Hermatomycesturbinatus and H.jinghaensis) and the remaining collections as new records of H.sphaericus. Hermatomycesturbinatus is characterized by 1) dimorphic conidia, having circular to oval lenticular conidia and 2) turbinate conidia consisting of two columns with two septa composed of 2-3 cells in each column. Hermatomycesjinghaensis is characterized by dimorphic conidia, having circular to oval lenticular conidia and clavate or subcylindrical to cylindrical conidia and consisting of one or two columns with 6-8 cells in each column. Phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, ITS, tub2, tef1-α and rpb2 sequence data supports the placement of these new taxa within Hermatomycetaceae with high statistical support. This paper reports on the presence of one generic and six specific new records of Cyperaceous species for the flora of Nepal. Amongst the new discoveries are the genus Machaerina, alongside species Eleocharisochrostachys, Fimbristylisacuminata, F.ferruginea, F.nutans, F.thomsonii and Scleriarugosa. The taxonomy and distribution of Actinoscirpusgrossus, Fimbristylissalbundia and Fuirenaumbellata in Nepal are clarified through notes on nomenclature, description, distribution, specimen examination, identification keys and photographs.Agapetesheana Y. H. Tong & J. D. Ya (Ericaceae), a new species from Lüchun Xian, Yunnan Province, China is described and illustrated. This new species is assigned to Agapetessect.Agapetesser.Longifiles Airy Shaw. It is closest to A.inopinata Airy Shaw and A.oblonga Craib, but differs in having bead-like tubers, leaf blade with a wholly serrulate margin, subulate and much longer calyx lobes, much larger corollas that are carmine, green at the apex and maroon on angles, and longer stamens without spurs on the back.Three new species of Lepanthes from Ecuador are described and illustrated. These additions to the Ecuadorean flora were recorded in evergreen montane forest and páramo as part of three different research projects conducted during the last five years (2016-2021). Lepanthesoro-lojaensis was discovered in the southwest of El Oro province and is similar to L.jimburae, differing mainly in the much smaller plants, inflorescences and floral parts. Lepanthesmicroprosartima from the western slopes of Pichincha volcano in northern Ecuador resembles L.obandoi but differs in the coloration of the leaves, the inflorescence that are shorter than the leaves and the smaller floral appendix. Lepanthescaranqui, found in eastern Pichincha and Imbabura, is most similar to L.pachychila but differs from it in its much larger plants and different shape of the petals and the floral appendix. Preliminary assessments of the conservation status of the three taxonomic novelties are provided, using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.A new species of the genus Cenocorixa Hungerford (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Corixidae) is described from China. Cenocorixayuanjiangensis sp. nov. is reported from Yunnan Province. An updated key to the Chinese species of Cenocorixa is presented.Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a common morbidity affecting preterm infants and is associated with substantial long-term disabilities. There has been no change in the incidence of BPD over the past 20 years, despite improvements in survival and other outcomes. The preterm lung is vulnerable to injuries occurring as a result of invasive ventilation, hyperoxia, and infections that contribute to the development of BPD. Clinicians caring for infants in the neonatal intensive care unit use multiple therapies for the prevention and management of BPD. Non-invasive ventilation strategies and surfactant administration via thin catheters are treatment approaches that aim to avoid volutrauma and barotrauma to the preterm developing lung. Identifying high-risk infants to receive postnatal corticosteroids and undergo patent ductus arteriosus closure may help to individualize care and promote improved lung outcomes. In infants with established BPD, outpatient management is complex and requires coordination from several specialists and therapists.
