Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle is in need of replacement, it's important to find the best replacement for your home. Locksmiths can provide and fit high-security uPVC handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Make sure to check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around the point. When you apply force to the end of the lever, it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotation multiplies the applied force and allows you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you tried to apply it directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever can be moved. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever gets extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the place where you apply force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects depending on how the forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the force applied to it (like a teeter-totter). The forces produced when you push on the handle of a front door can create rotational effects similar to these.
However, levers don't create energy. Levers increase the force by converting small amounts of effort applied over a longer distance into larger amounts of force applied over shorter distances. This allows you to do more work in a shorter period of time, which is the reason why levers are frequently used for lifting heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes and can be used with a variety of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the outside and the interior doors with screws and spindles included. They are also available in hand and unhandled versions for different types of users.
They are commonly used in new constructions and can be fitted to replace existing doors made of upvc. They are typically operated by lifting up the levers to throw all of the multipoint locks before turning the key to close or unlock. They offer some extra security in comparison to standard lever door handles as the locking operation is only accessible via the inside using a key unless the door is deadlocked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock, but they are an affordable way to provide extra security to your home. The only drawback is that they don't provide the same level of security like a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles we stock are made by the top manufacturers in the industry and are constructed using high quality components. They are also typically supplied with a manufacturer's warranty.
Typically, these will be designed to work with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version of this called a Paddock lock. They will have an 82mm cylinder center on the inside, and 62mm on the outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate, and others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. Pushing down on the lever operates a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles operate using the same principle however, with the addition of a Snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib button can be extremely useful, particularly in homes where it's essential to protect privacy or ensure security. If your partner is arriving home late from work, you can apply the snib to ensure they won't be able to enter until they're ready to come in. This type of handle is also popular in doors that are inside such as bedrooms, where you might want to restrict access from the outside.
In certain situations, snib buttons can cause problems, especially in the case of older locks or doors that are bent. If the snib button was accidentally pressed or by a person who isn't familiar with it, the door could shut and lock you out. Most of the time, you can be able to get in by knocking the door frame or letterbox, however this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double-turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates that hide existing holes to ensure a seamless installation. replacement door handles for aluminium door -LOK application is able to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also available for convenience and security. The system has been tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are constructed with a solid metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a very popular handle design for front doors. It has the benefit of keeping the door from being opened from the outside without a key, if the lock isn't deadlocked. This is accomplished by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and the lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks which use a split spindle mechanism. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle and the external pad handle to be mounted on the same lock case. This can be a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles but it may also require changing the lock case or a brand new set of handles to accommodate this additional functionality.
These aluminum levers and movable pads door handles are suitable for use on uPVC and feature an unmaintained slide bearing. They also include fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and an unstick slide bearing. They feature a euro-style cut out and can be fitted to a wide range of uPVC and timber doors.
Lever moveable pads are available in a variety of finishes to fit many different multipoint locks. They are designed to be used with split spindle multipoint locks with a 92mm cylinder centre and require a separate split spindle set as supplied by the lock manufacturer.
These Hoppe London lever moveable pad handle 77G/3831N/113 are constructed of cast aluminum with an anodized finish that is corrosion resistant and scratch resistant. These handles can be used conjunction with many other Hoppe products, such as patio door handles. French door handles and window handles. They also include an escutcheon for security.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handles are one of the most commonly used kinds of upvc door handles. They come in many styles. It is comprised of two inline handles that move and can be locked using either a key or thumbturn cylinder that is inside. A pad handle can be used as an alternative to lever/lever handles. It is made up of an adjustable or fixed pad which can be used to operate locks. These Fullex handles have a sprung lever pad and a snib that can be turned on to hold the latch.
When choosing the right replacement upvc handle, be sure to consider the screw centres and the back plate length, and the PZ measurement. This will ensure that the handle works with your existing locking system. Our online measuring guide will help you to measure these parameters to ensure that your new upvc handle will fit perfectly.
