Oleuropein (OLE) is the main bioactive ingredient in the leaves of the olive plant Olea europaea L. (Oleaceae), which has proven beneficial due to the antiinflammatory, antiatherogenic, anticancer, antimicrobial, and antiviral effects. This study aimed to investigate the antihypertensive and vasodilator potential of OLE by analyzing its acute effects on spontaneous atrial contractions and vasomotor responses of the isolated thoracic aorta in rats. We showed that the application of OLE induces negative chronotropic and inotropic effects on the heart. OLE also causes mild aortic vasodilation given that the maximal reduction in tension of intact aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine was approximately 30%. This vasodilation is likely dependent on the nitric oxide released from the endothelium based on the effect obtained on denuded and phenylephrine precontracted aortic rings and responses reordered following vasoconstriction induced by high concentrations of K+ and heparin. Our findings provide a basis for further testing of OLE cardiovascular effects, which may lead to subsequent clinical research for its application in the treatment of hypertension and heart disease. Background Xanthelasma palpebrarum (XP) is a form of cutaneous xanthoma that presents as collections of yellowish papules or plaques around the eyelids or canthus, affecting patients cosmetically. Objective This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser to that of fractional ErYAG laser for the treatment of XP. Methods Two centers recruited patients diagnosed with XP of bilaterally symmetrical lesions. The lesion on one side was randomly assigned to be treated with fractional CO2 laser while the lesion on the other side was treated with fractional ErYAG laser. All subjects received up to five treatments, with a 4-week interval between each treatment. Results Thirty-nine patients completed the study and a total of 82 lesions were available for final assessment. The percentage of "Excellent Improvement" on third and fourth visit was 60.98% versus 39.02% and 90.24% versus 63.41%, respectively, p less then 0.05. In a follow-up for 12 to 25 months, the number of lesions recurred on the side treated with fractional CO2 laser and fractional ErYAG laser are 9 (22%) and 10 (24%), respectively. Conclusions In this study, fractional CO2 laser therapy appears superior since a fewer treatments are required for patients to show significant clinical improvement. This paper presents a novel integrated multi-criteria decision-making model consists of the CRITIC (CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation) technique and the EDAS (The Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution) method to evaluate the selection of the urban rail vehicles operated in the public transport systems. Isoxazole 9 nmr In order to determine the selection criteria in a more realistic perspective, a board of experts consists of seven members, who perform as senior executives in the public transport institutions of the country, was constructed and many round tables meetings were organized with together the members of the board for determining the procedure to follow to reach meaningful and applicable results. At the beginning of the research, approximately fifty selection criteria were determined by the research team and some of them were eliminated during the preparation process of this study. Finally, 22 factors were determined as the selection criteria, which will be used in this research. These factors are the selection criteria directly or indirectly affecting the selection process and results. Also, rail tram types currently operated in the various cities of Turkey were determined as decision alternatives. These options were evaluated by using the proposed integrated MCDM approach. When the obtained results are evaluated, it can be seen that the proposed model has the potential to give very successful results for evaluating the selection process of the urban rail systems. Moreover, it can be implemented as a decision support system by decision-makers, who perform in the public transport authorities. Finally, it can also be applied for decision-making problems faced in the various fields.
Antisynthetase syndrome (ASSD) is a rare auto-immune condition that can present as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and progress into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).
The purpose of this clinical case is to highlight the importance of considering less prevalent causes of ARDS amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
We present a 56-year-old Belgian female of African descent without past medical history who demonstrated typical signs of COVID-19 at the start of the pandemic. Based on the disease course as well as CT-scan findings, a diagnosis of COVID-19 was made. She progressed to ARDS for which she got intubated and was started on venovenous membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). Despite initial negative screening for antinuclear antibodies, further analysis revealed anti-Jo-antibodies. Diagnosis of ASSD was eventually retained and immunosuppressive therapy was started. However, pulmonary fibrosis had evolved too far and therapy was halted shortly after.

This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of tele-echocardiography for advanced CHD screening at a Level II NICU managed by a hybrid telemedicine system. Methods Retrospective chart review of infants requiring tele-echocardiography at a Level II NICU. Patient demographics, echocardiography indications, and findings were analyzed. Agreement between tele-echocardiography and conventional echocardiography findings was assessed. Transport cost savings were calculated based on preventable transfers to Level IV NICU. Descriptive statistics were computed for demographic and clinical variables. Results Over 5 years, 52 infants were screened for CHD. Thirty-two infants (62%) had findings consistent with minor CHD or normal neonatal transitional physiology.
