The solidification kinetics of an alloy from its liquid state forms an underlying basis for microstructural engineering, wherein the state of thermodynamic equilibrium associated with the melt-grown crystal and the quenched amorphous solid denotes the two limits for crystallinity in the alloy synthesis. In this study, we report the implication of the crystalline state on the thermal and electrical transport properties of partially substituted Mn(Si1-xAlx)γ by comparing the single crystals melt-grown by the Bridgman method, and polycrystals synthesized from melt spinning (MS) and subsequent spark plasma sintering (SPS). The rapidly solidified alloys exhibited nanocrystalline microstructures in MS ribbons, while melt-grown single crystals displayed characteristics evolution of MnSi striations with limited solubility of Al. It was observed that Al as a p-type dopant enhances the carrier concentration and electrical conductivity, while nanocrystallinity in MS + SPS polycrystals and secondary phases in monocrystals were effective in enhancing the phonon scattering. Maximum zT values of ∼0.54 (±0.05) at 823 K and 0.75 (±0.05) at 873 K were attained for the single crystal (directed perpendicular to the c-axis) and melt-spun polycrystals (along the in-plane direction), respectively. These results present the efficacy of aliovalent Al substitution and demonstrate the critical role of the solidification kinetics in optimizing the carrier concentration and enhancing the phonon scattering in higher manganese silicide crystals for thermoelectric applications. In this paper, we assess the effects of a national policy implemented in Brazil to avoid unnecessary cesareans. The policy has a supply-side component that prohibits elective c-sections before the 39th gestational week and a demand-side awareness component. Since the policy is not binding for cases with a strong medical c-section indication, we use births of breech- and transverse-positioned babies as a counterfactual for births of cephalic-positioned babies in a difference-in-differences framework. Our results reveal that the policy decreases the rate of c-sections by 1.6 percentage point, and slightly increases gestational time, birthweight, and first-minute APGAR scores. There is evidence that policy effectiveness is driven by its demand-side component.Transgender and nonbinary (TG/NB) persons are listed as one of the key populations in the context of HIV, due to increased risk of HIV infection in this group. HIV prevention, which includes a variety of available methods, should therefore be included in the comprehensive health care for TG/NB persons. One such method is the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), whose high effectiveness in preventing HIV transmission has already been demonstrated in numerous studies conducted in the cisgender population. However, the available empirical data on its use in TG/NB persons are limited in many respects. This issue is also practically absent in the Polish literature; as a consequence, there are significant gaps in recommendations for professionals involved i n the prevention of HIV among TG/NB persons and professionals involved in the comprehensive health care for TG/NB persons. This article 1) outlines the issue of the use of PrEP among TG/NB persons, including the associated challenges for professionals (specialising in physical, as well as mental health); 2) demonstrates the possible applicability of PrEP in TG/NB populations based on available research findings; 3) summarises good practices in counselling and PrEP-related psychoeducational activities, as part of the comprehensive health care for TG/NB individuals. We present a case study of a patient who was hospitalized with the initial diagnosis of psychotic depression with predominant delusions of poverty. During his hospital stay despite antidepressant and antipsychotic treatment with 150 mg of sertraline and 20 mg of olanzapine per day, no symptomatic improvement was achieved. Besides, the psychotic features have risen to the fore along with inadequately vaguely expressed affective component. What drew attention was the coherence and permanence of delusional judgements, which, albeit variable in expression, always concerned one theme - the belief of an inevitable bankruptcy. The whole clinical picture, both with the objectifying interview defining the order of emerging symptoms, was suggestive and the verification of diagnosis was made. Persistent delusional disorder with delusions of poverty with subsequent mood disorder was diagnosed. The treatment with 275 mg of clozapine per day was started and we observed a slow gradual withdrawal of psychosis as well as a total normalization of the affective range. The case illustrates the importance of differential diagnosis of mental states in which psychotic features coexist with affective symptoms. It is helpful to determine the sequence of the symptoms development. It should be noted that although the ICD-10 classification distinguishes exclusively 7 subtypes of persistent delusional disorder, in the clinical practice we can encounter other thematic areas of psychosis. It brings substantial therapeutic and prognostic implications.
The present study aimed at analyzing the prevalence of depressive symptoms in a group of learning young adults, as well as the social support as a predictor of depression in late adolescence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An online national survey of young adults attending schools was conducted. The semi-structured questionnaire, including a section on sociodemographic data, stressors, needs and sources of support, as well as brief version of the Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale, was distributed to young Poles. The final sample consisted of 1,500 students aged 18-23. Multivariable logistic regression assessed the relationships between support needs and sources and depressive symptoms.
The support needs that are most commonly reported by young adults are support from loved ones (family, friends) (n = 843; 56.2%) and teachers (e.g., care, appreciation) (n = 603; 40.2%). Fifty-six per cent of Polish young adults are experiencing significant depressive symptoms (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.82-13.96). Young adults with no social support had higher KADS score than participants reporting some form of support (b = 1.794; 95% BCa CI = 0.659, 2.947). Participants receiving support from mother, both parents and siblings had a lower severity of depressive symptoms, while young people receiving support from father had more severe symptoms.
This study provides initial findings in terms of depressive symptoms and support needs of young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is imperative for mental health services, communities and schools to provide the necessary support to young adults.

The purpose of this study was to describe sexual orientations, intimate relationships, sexual behaviours, and pleasure in self-identified straight, gay, and bisexual men.
The analysis drew on a database obtained from a cross-sectional online study of the sexuality of Polish straight (SM; N = 1,079), gay (GM; N = 1,704) and bisexual (BM; N = 713) men. This data was utilised to compare men from these three groups across their sexual orientations, intimate relationships and sexual behaviours, including the most pleasurable sexual activities.
In general, the sexualities of GM and BM seem to be more diverse and less oriented to particular sexual activities. Sexual minority men (SMM) tended to be more often in open (nonexclusive) relationships, had more diverse sexual experiences, and enjoyed a greater variety of sexual activities. This particularly concerned BM.
Present analysis revealed patterns and significant differences in sexual orientations, intimate relationships, sexual behaviours, and pleasure of SM, GM and BM. The results, pointing to a greater diversity of sexual expression and preferences in SMM, may both trigger reshaping of some of the stereotypical beliefs, as well as positively influence educational (sexual education, specialized teaching) and clinical practice (more accurate assessment of patients' needs and problems).

The paper presents the results of work on the Polish adaptation of the Self-Assessed Wisdom Scale (SAWS). It presents the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the tool.
The research was quantitative in nature and it was carried out in a correlation scheme. The respondents completed a set of questionnaires. 880 subjects aged 60-80 years (M = 68.15; SD = 5.96) participated in the study. Apart from the SAWS six other psychological methods were used. The selection of measuring tools was purposeful.
The final Polish version of the SAWS consists of 40 items (including 36 diagnostic ones) that make up 5 dimensions of wisdom (1) "Critical Life Experience", (2) "Emotional Regulation", (3) "Reminiscence and Reflectiveness",(4) "Openness" and (5) "Humor". The reliability index for the entire scale (36 items) was α = 0.92 (very high). Reliability values (Cronbach's α) for individual scales vary from α = 0.60 to α = 0.84. The validity of the scale was evaluated by means of confirmatory analysis.
The results are consistent with the original version of the scale, thus it has been indicated that the Polish version of the SAWS fulfils the psychometric requirements for psychological tests. The scale can be applied in scientific research.

The article presents the results of research on the Polish adaptation of the self-report questionnaires FFBI (Five Factor Borderline Inventory) and FFBI-SF (Five Factor Borderline Inventory - Short Form), which were developed to measure borderline personality traits.
The study, which consisted of two sessions, included a non-clinical sample of N = 527 adults (session 1 N = 527; Mage = 32.74 years; SDage = 10.12 years; 44% male; session 2 N = 315; Mage = 33.56 years; SDage = 10.71 years; 48.6% male). Colcemid purchase For convergent and divergent validity, Borderline Personality Disorder Checklist (BPD Checklist), Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (SI-Bord), Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI) and Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD) were used.
The results showed the Polish adaptations of the FFBI and FFBI-SF to be reliable and valid. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for FFBI/FFBI-SF scales scores ranged from 0.80/0.67 to 0.94/0.91 (Mα = 0.89/0.84). The twelve-factor structure of FFBI/FFBI-SF items was conformed.
