On the one hand, when the halogen bond acceptor XC5H4N is fixed, with the increase of halogen atomic number, the strength of halogen bond increases; on the other hand, when the halogen bond donor ICF3 is fixed, as the electron-withdrawing ability of the electron-withdrawing group (X) increases, the halogen bond gradually weakens.Records of 234 lactations from F1 Holstein x Gyr daughters of proven bulls were used in this study for the evaluation of productive and reproductive characteristics of cows. Data were collected from a private farm located in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Monte, MG, Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Holstein bull's PTA milk (predicted transmitting ability) calving year, season, and parity on the productive and reproductive characteristics of F! cows. The productive characteristics analyzed were total milk production (TMP), average daily production (ADP), days in milk (DIM), and milk yield per day of calving interval (MYDCI). The studied reproductive characteristics were service interval (SI), calving interval (CI), and gestation length (GL). The results were subjected to statistical analysis and means for significant effects were compared using Duncan's test at a significance level of 5%. F1 animals efficiently expressed their genetic potential for milk production with an average total milk production of 7842.61 kg and average daily production of 24.53 kg. Means for days in milk, milk yield per day of calving interval, service interval, calving interval, and gestation length were 322.52 days, 20.73 kg, 106.0 days, 383.23 days, and 276.18 days, respectively. Properly managed F1 Holstein x Gyr daughters of proven bulls fed a balanced diet efficiently expressed their genetic potential for milk production without adverse effects on reproduction. Moreover, Holstein x Gyr cows should be selected based on parents' PTA for milk traits and other factors such as environmental conditions and management.
Brain MRI provides important information about suspected congenital CMV infection in neonatally underdiagnosed children. This study aimed to describe MRI findings in children in whom congenital CMV infection was not suspected during the neonatal period and was proven retrospectively.

We enrolled 31 children referred to the pediatric neurology clinic with neurological symptoms who were proven to have congenital CMV infection based on dried umbilical cord samples. Upon diagnosis, MR and CT images were assessed using the van der Knaap scoring system integrated with additional variables. Two investigators independently assessed all images.

The age at diagnosis was < 12 months in 14, 12-24 months in 11, and > 24 months in 6 patients. The initial symptom triggering clinic referral was delayed development in 22, seizure in 5, deafness in 3, and hemiplegia in 1 patient. Of the 31 children, 30 had a white matter (WM) abnormality predominant in the deep WM of the parietal lobe (n = 25). Anterior temporal lesions were observed in 21 children. Cortical lesions were observed in 7 children, suggestive of polymicrogyria. No child had cerebellar or brainstem abnormalities. Brain CT was performed in 22 of 31 children, and 11 showed punctate cerebral calcification in the periventricular and/or deep WM.

Numerous surgical methods, with varying rates of recurrence, have been applied for the treatment of pterygium. Adjuvant mitomycin C (MMC) application has shown promising results in the prevention of recurrence. Here we propose and describe modified bare sclera technique combined with the intraoperative application of MMC for pterygium excision.

Retrospective study.

Primary pterygium patients who underwent pterygium excision via the bare sclera combined with 0.04% MMC technique from January 2014 to December 2016 were reviewed. In all patients, the subconjunctival pterygium strand was exposed and then sufficiently excised in combination with the safe use of MMC; i.e., the prevention of MMC dilution and diffusion to surrounding tissue. Surgical complications, recurrence rates, and recurrence onset were recorded.

This study involved 32 primary pterygium eyes (grade T1 = 22 eyes; 68.7%). The mean postoperative follow-up period was 26.4 ± 14.5months (range 12-60months). MMC was applied for 1-3min. The mean complete epithelialization was 12.
