In addition, SMAD4-positive tumors had a significantly lower lymph node metastasis rate in both the neoadjuvant and nonneoadjuvant setting.

Further characterization of the role of SMAD4 within the context of neoadjuvant therapy will lead to improved personalized therapeutic strategies.

Complex regional pain syndrome type 1 (CRPS-1) is a disabling painful disease, with variable outcomes in terms of chronic pain and disability. A long time between onset and diagnosis seems predictive for late recovery and progression toward a chronic disease. This study aims to investigate demographic and clinical variables associated with delayed CRPS-1 diagnosis.

From March 2013 to January 2018, consecutive patients newly diagnosed according to International Association for the Study of Pain diagnostic criteria for CRPS-1 were recruited. Demographic and clinical variables were collected at diagnosis. Student t test and Mann-Whitney U test were used for comparisons; Cox proportional hazards model was applied to evaluate the variables associated with delayed CRPS-1 diagnosis.

One hundred eighty patients entered the study. At diagnosis, women were older, and foot was more often involved than hand. The triggering event was more commonly a trauma without fracture for foot disease and a fracture for hand loedictive factors for a delayed diagnosis. Clinicians should pay attention to these issues to ensure a timely diagnosis and possibly avoid progression toward a chronic disease.
The current study was designed to evaluate the translation of clinical trial outcomes and clinical guidelines for the treatment of fibromyalgia (FM) into an intensive multicomponent clinical program embedded in routine care delivery. The study aimed to assess the adaptation of these recommended strategies into routine clinical care while evaluating their effectiveness and durability in improving functional status and level of distress in a large clinical sample of FM patients.

Four hundred eighty-nine patients with FM completed a 2-day program that incorporated best practice recommendations for the treatment of FM. Patients completed the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire-Revised, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale at admission to the program and at follow-up on average 5 months posttreatment.

Significant improvements were seen in functional status (p < 0.0001), depressive symptoms (p < 0.0001), and pain catastrophizing (p < 0.0001) after participation in the intensive multicomponent treatment program.

The present study shows that an intensive multicomponent treatment program embedded in routine care delivery is effective in significantly improving functional status and psychological distress in a large sample of FM patients. The significant improvements were durable and maintained at follow-up.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that leads to joint deformity and disability, as well as muscle involvement. Sarcopenia is characterized by a progressive age-related loss of muscle mass and strength.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of sarcopenia and possible contributing factors associated with sarcopenia in RA patients.

Adult RA patients (n = 105) of both sexes and 100 subjects as control group (CG) matched by age, sex, and body mass index were included in this cross-sectional study. Whole-body composition was measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Sarcopenia was defined according to European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 as low muscle strength (handgrip) and low muscle mass (appendicular skeletal muscle mass [ASM] index by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry). The association between sarcopenia and associated factors was evaluated using logistic regression analyses.

Significantly lower percentage of lean mass and ASM were found in thnd in female RA patients. Sarcopenia was found in younger female subjects with RA compared with healthy control subjects. selleck compound Sarcopenia was associated with previous fragility fractures in female patients with RA.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chilean version of the Fibromyalgia Survey Questionnaire (FSQ).

Women with fibromyalgia (FM; n = 214), women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA; n = 97), and women without chronic pain (attended at the gynecologist, G; n = 117) from the Red de Salud UC CHRISTUS (Santiago, Chile) participated. Women with FM completed the FSQ, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (Revised Version), Numerical Pain Rating Scale, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, Pain Vigilance and Awareness Questionnaire, Patient Health Questionnaire 15, and Short-Form Health Survey. Two weeks later, they completed the FSQ again by phone (n = 120).

The FSQ total scale showed excellent to good internal consistency at T1 (α = 0.91, ω = 0.91) and T2 (α = 0.78, ω = 0.78), and good test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, 0.79; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.72-0.85). It showed medium to large correlations with the other measures. Discriminant analysis between the FMssessment. A cutoff score of 17 or higher seems to be the most appropriate for Chilean population.Cyclotrons used in nuclear medicine imaging accelerate protons, deuterons, and helium ions to bombard a target, which produces nuclear reactions that generate positron-emitting radionuclides. Secondary neutrons are nonuniformly emitted in these reactions and induce heterogeneous activation of the cyclotron components and concrete vault enclosure. This poses radioactive waste management complications when decommissioning a cyclotron facility, since the objective is to ensure that exposures are within regulatory limits and as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). The McGovern Medical School in The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston housed a Scanditronix MC40 cyclotron that produced short-lived radioisotopes for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging from 1984 to 2001 until Tropical Storm Allison rendered it inoperable. The purpose of this study was to provide underrepresented Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students an ALARA experience with a practical problem encountered in the radiation safety profession.
