This literature review provides a robust synthesis of up-to-date knowledge and practice on the challenges and successes of placenta accreta spectrum disorders management. The currently practiced management options in the high and middle income countries are also summarized under seven categories. Therefore, the purpose of this review was to shed light on the applicability of the PAS disorder management modalities in our setup. © 2020 Yifru Berhan, et al.Background Various researchers who carried out national and international surveys have reported wide variations in patient dose arising from specific X-ray examinations. Thus, assessment of radiation dose is an essential part in the optimization process. The aim of this study was to compare the entrance surface doses delivered to pediatric patients undergoing digital and computed radiography X-ray examination. Material and Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 389 pediatric X-ray projections less than 15 years of age on eight X-ray machines in Addis Ababa in February 2009 E.C. The tube output of the X-ray machines in air was measured using RaySafe XI dosimeters. Then, entrance surface dose was estimated for common x-ray examinations like chest, skull, extremities and pelvis using established relation between X-ray tube output and radiographic parameters. These data were analyzed statistically using computer (Excel and SPSS method). Result The third quartile estimated ESDs in mGy for both computed and digital radiography examinations of chest (AP) for age (0-1 year) were 0.24 and 0.15, (1-5 year) 0.3 and 0.16. For the age group (5-10 year), it was 1.97 and 0.26 and for the (10-15 year) group, 0.56 and 0.18 respectively. These values were higher than those of the United Nations Scientific Committee's on the Effects of Atomic Radiation's established dose reference levels (in mGy for age (0-1 year) 0.02, (1-5 year) 0.03, (5-10 year) 0.04, and (10-15 year) 0.05 respectively). Conclusion The wider dose variation between computed and digital radiography shows that there is a pressing need to minimize the detriment caused by unnecessary computed radiography. © 2020 Seife Teferi, et al.Background Moringa stenopetala is used as nourishments, and treatment of various diseases. However, there is no much information on its safety. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the chronic administration of aqueous leaves extract of the plant. Materials and Methods Twenty-four rats were divided into a control group administered with distilled water and three experimental groups, respectively, administered with the extract at doses of 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg orally for six months were investigated. Various hematological and biochemical parameters followed by histopathological analysis were evaluated. Results Treatment with the extract did not significantly affect most of the hematological parameters. However, there were a significant decrease of MCH at doses of 1000 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg in male rats and increase of MCV at all doses in female rats. Levels of ALP at 2000 mg/kg and those of AST and ALT at 1000 and 2000 mg/kg were significantly increased in male rats. Furthermore, significant decrease in urea and increase in creatinine levels at the dose of 2000 mg/kg occurred in female rats. Mild histopathological changes were also observed in the liver of male rats and kidney of female rats treated with the extract, respectively at doses of 1000 and 2000 mg/kg, and 2000 mg/kg. Conclusion Findings from the present study suggest that prolonged administration of extract of Moringa stenopetala at therapeutic doses is safe, but shows sign of mild toxicity as dose increases, with differential effect on male verses female rats. © 2020 Fikre Bayu, et al.Background Increased antibiotic resistant properties of pathogens has led to a pronounced search for new effective antibiotics from microbes in diverse ecological niches. This study focused on isolating actinomycetes from soil of reserved areas and profiling them for antibacterial potentials. Methods The isolates (IS-2, IS-4, IS-6, IS-10, IS-14) were assessed for antagonistic activity against ten multi-drug resistant bacterial strains (Gram positive and negative) by cross streak and well diffusion methods. Results During the primary screening, four of the isolates showed good antagonistic activity against the test strains. Notably, all the bacterial strains except Pseudomonas aeruginosa responded sensitively to at least one of the actinomycetes screened. The crude extracts of the secondary metabolites of the four actinomycetes (IS-2, IS-4, IS-6, IS-10) with considerably significant antagonistic activities inhibited the growth of all the bacterial strains efficiently. All the test bacterial strains were sensitive to at least one of the extracts at a concentration of 100µg/ml. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the extracts against the isolates ranged from 12.5 - 25µg/ml. The crude extracts of IS-4 and IS-6 identified as Streptomyces glauciniger NBRC 100913 and Streptomyces griseoplanus NRRL-ISP 5009 by I6s rRNA sequencing, showed higher antibacterial activities against the bacterial strains. Significantly, the ethyl acetate crude extract of the actinomycetes demonstrated better antibacterial activities than the standard antibiotics (ofloxacin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cefuroxime and ceftriaxone). Conclusion This study reports remarkable anti-MRSA activities as well as broad spectrum antibacterial potentials of extracts of Streptomyces spp. worthy of further exploration. © 2020 Ahmed RN, et al.Background Hypertension is a global health issue among the adult population with high morbidity and mortality rates. Poor adherence to medication is associated with bad outcome of the disease and wastage of health resources. 6-Benzylaminopurine Therefore, this study aims to determine the role of patient education in medication adherence among hypertensives attending tertiary hospitals in Ekiti State, South Western, Nigeria. Methods This is a descriptive cross-sectional study involving 420 participants attending Family Medicine Department Clinic of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ido-Ekiti. Relevant data were collected using semi-structured questionnaire. Results The mean age of respondents was 60.97 ± 11.28 years, and a slight female preponderance (male female = 11.7 over male). Three hundred and forty nine (83.1%) were married, 273(65.0%) were from a monogamous family and 375(89.2%) had family sizes of more than 4. Ninety four (22.4%) had good knowledge about hypertension, and 257(61.2%) were adherent to their medication. Increased medication adherence proportion was observed as knowledge about hypertension improves.
