Paediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS), first identified in April 2020, shares features of both Kawasaki disease (KD) and toxic shock syndrome (TSS). The surveillance describes the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of PIMS-TS in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Public Health England initiated prospective national surveillance of PIMS-TS through the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit. Paediatricians were contacted monthly to report PIMS-TS, KD and TSS cases electronically and complete a detailed clinical questionnaire. Cases with symptom onset between 01 March and 15 June 2020 were included.

There were 216 cases with features of PIMS-TS alone, 13 with features of both PIMS-TS and KD, 28 with features of PIMS-TS and TSS and 11 with features of PIMS-TS, KD and TSS, with differences in age, ethnicity, clinical presentation and disease severity between the phenotypic groups. There was a strong geographical and temporal association between SARS-CoV-2 infection rates and PIMS-TS cases. Of those tested, 14.8% (39/264) children had a positive SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR, and 63.6% (75/118) were positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. In total 44·0% (118/268) required intensive care, which was more common in cases with a TSS phenotype. Three of five children with cardiac arrest had TSS phenotype. Three children (1·1%) died.

The strong association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and PIMS-TS emphasises the importance of maintaining low community infection rates to reduce the risk of this rare but severe complication in children and adolescents. Close follow-up will be important to monitor long-term complications in children with PIMS-TS.

Endovascular treatment of challenging infra-inguinal peripheral vascular disease is increasingly common because of new techniques and improved tools. Calcium folinate The use of a novel electrically guided 5 F re-entry catheter is presented. By emitting a minute electrical field, detected by a target wire inserted from an opposing access, the catheter's orientation is accurately displayed to the operator, allowing precise re-entry without the need for fluoroscopic alignment.

An 84 year old man with tissue loss was treated for a long occlusion of the superficial femoral artery and tibial vessels. Successful subintimal recanalisation was achieved with the help of the ePATH re-entry catheter, restoring inline flow to the foot.

This re-entry catheter benefits from an intuitive alignment method, smaller profile, and operator adjustable needle travel, making it a versatile tool for endovascular cases.

Understanding the case and death rates of COVID-19 in different countries should include socio-demographic variables to better guide health policies. We analysed COVID-19 cases in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) with attention to socio-demographic factors.

A retrospective chart review of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases was conducted between March and September 2020.

Demographic data such as age, gender, place of residence, pregnancy, and symptoms were analysed. Patients were divided into two outcome groups discharged from quarantine restrictions and dead.

A total of 15,338 confirmed cases was examined. COVID-19 cases tended to be young (48.2% were less than 30 years of age) with an average age of 34.3±27.3, most were female (55.5%),and 20% smoked. Overall, 5183 (38%) were symptomatic and if pregnant, symptoms were more commonly reported (65.3%). The overall case-fatality was 0.93 [95% CI 0.83-1.04]. Males had a greater risk of death (OR=2.7 [95%CI=1.7-2.8], P<0.001), as did those 60 years of age and older (OR=52.0 [30.5-89.7], P<0.001).

Early detection of socio-demographic risk factors helps understand the case distribution and guide better planning, especially in countries with limited resources. Better targeting of interventions may help to limit more expensive interventions such as intensive care admissions and avoid deaths. Such data are also important for planning vaccination campaigns.
Early detection of socio-demographic risk factors helps understand the case distribution and guide better planning, especially in countries with limited resources. Better targeting of interventions may help to limit more expensive interventions such as intensive care admissions and avoid deaths. Such data are also important for planning vaccination campaigns.Despite the challenges in managing the COVID-19 pandemic waves in different contexts and capacities, the vaccines that were recently approved for use have created a window of hope to fight this pandemic more effectively by achieving herd immunity. However, the rates of vaccination coverage vary considerably between countries. While looking at COVID-19 vaccination from a different perspective, it brings up the following question is equitable vaccine delivery and access the only critical issue? Assessing facilitators and barriers to successful vaccination initiatives should be carefully considered and addressed by subsequent actions. The COVID-19 vaccination campaigns as part of disease prevention programs could be embedded in the core of theories for a more systematic approach to enhance vaccine acceptance among people. For effective implementation of public health programs, it is imperative to understand human health behaviours and to have sufficient knowledge about cultural and environmental influences. Sufficient and satisfactory COVID-19 vaccine uptake is not only challenged by the availability of vaccines or their distribution, but also by cultural and social norms in the community as well as the complexity of human behaviours. Therefore, the global efforts should target communities with theory-based health promotion and awareness programs in parallel with vaccination campaigns as a part of public health practice.
Socioeconomic factors such as elevated incidence of chronic disease, overcrowding, and increased occupational exposure result in higher risk of infectious disease. The COVID-19 pandemic has appeared to disproportionately affect communities affected by deprivation and discrimination, who also appear to be at greater risk of severe disease. Our aim was to investigate the evolution of the socioeconomic groups affected by COVID-19 over the course of the first wave of the pandemic by examining patients presenting to an acute NHS trust.

A retrospective study using the postcodes of patients presenting to the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust who tested PCR-positive for COVID-19 were used to determine average house price and index of multiple deprivation. These were used as markers of affluence to examine the trend in the socioeconomic status of affected patients from February to May 2020.

384 cases were included. The postcodes of those individuals who were initially infected had higher average house prices and index of multiple deprivation, both of which followed downward trends as the outbreak progressed.
