Thus, we provide here novel experimental evidence supporting Robertson's theory of a right lateralized neural basis for cognitive reserve. In 1971, Congress passed the National Cancer Act, landmark legislation that reorganized the National Institutes of Health's National Cancer Institute (NCI). The Act included a new focus on cancer control, including the requirement that the NCI award research grants and contracts, in collaboration with other public agencies and private industry, to conduct cancer control activities related to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer. The requirement placed the NCI at the nexus of a rapidly changing science and a complex and dynamic healthcare delivery system and involved an evolutionary transformation to advance cancer control and cancer care delivery research along the cancer care continuum. Analysis is based on a qualitative ethnographic approach using historical records, oral histories, and targeted interviews. The multimethod approach provided the opportunity to describe the vision, leadership, and struggle to build an infrastructure, expand expertise, and forge collaboration with the NCI and a complex and changing healthcare system. As the 50th anniversary of the National Cancer Act approaches in 2021, the process and these achievements are at risk of being taken for granted or lost in the flow of history. Documenting the process, milestones, and key players provides insight and guidance for continuing to improve cancer care, advance research, and reduce cancer incidence and mortality. Cancer care is a microcosm of the larger healthcare system providing insight and lessons on the importance of developing and maintaining a research infrastructure and the role of multi-level collaboration and partnerships involving both the private and public sectors.Azaspiracids (AZAs) are lipophilic polyether toxins produced by Azadinium and Amphidoma species of marine microalgae. The main dinoflagellate precursors AZA1 and AZA2 are metabolized by shellfish to produce an array of AZA analogues. Many marine toxins undergo fatty acid esterification in shellfish, therefore mussel tissues contaminated with AZAs were screened for intact fatty acid esters of AZAs using liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry. Acyl esters were primarily observed for AZAs containing hydroxy groups at C-3 with 3-O-palmitoylAZA4 identified as the most abundant acyl ester, while other fatty acid esters including 181, 161, 170, 202 and 180 acyl esters were detected. The structures of these acyl derivatives were determined through LC-MS/MS experiments, and supported by periodate cleavage reactions and semi-synthesis of palmitate esters of the AZAs. Esters of the hydroxy groups at C-20 or C-21 were not observed in mussel tissue. The relative proportion of the most abundant AZA ester was less than 3% of the sum of the major free AZA analogues. These findings reveal an additional metabolic pathway for AZAs in shellfish.Overweight and obesity during pregnancy are risk factors for a large number of perinatal complications, both for the mother and the infant. Risk stratification and early interventions are therefore highly clinically important to minimize future complications. Currently, body mass index (BMI) in early pregnancy is used for risk stratification of pregnant women, but a disadvantage of BMI is that it does not distinguish muscle from fat tissue and central from peripheral adiposity. Maternal fat distribution is suggested to be a better predictor than BMI of obesity-related adverse pregnancy outcomes, with central adiposity posing a greater risk than peripheral subcutaneous fat. With this study, we aimed to systematically review the evidence of what impact maternal central adiposity in early to mid-pregnancy or at most 365 days prior to conception has on infant anthropometry and perinatal morbidity. The databases PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science Core Collection, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Clinical Trials, and Open Grey were seaction. There is also some evidence of associations between central adiposity and preterm delivery ( less then 37 weeks of gestation), and admission to neonatal intensive care unit. A meta-analysis was not possible to perform due to substantial heterogeneity among the included studies regarding the exposure, outcome, and statistical methods used. Hence, central adiposity in early to mid-pregnancy or at most 365 days prior to conception could be a possible risk marker in addition to BMI for risk stratification of pregnant women. However, since the topic is only scarcely researched, and the results not unanimous, more studies are needed to further clarify the associations between maternal central adiposity and adverse neonatal complications, before any altered recommendations of guidelines could be made. To enable a future meta-analysis, studies using similar methods for central adiposity assessment, and similar outcome measures, are required. The aim of this work was to determine the physicochemical and functional properties of a Brassica napobrassica leaves powder sieved at three particle sizes. Moreover, in order to understand the potential interactions between the Brassica napobrassica leaves powder and starch, the pasting properties were assessed and the effect of pH (4-9) and temperatures (70-90 °C) on the phenolic compounds and antiradical activities were also evaluated. Particle size had an effect on physicochemical and functional properties of the vegetable powder. Vegetable fractions affected the apparent viscosity of starch suspension along heating and cooling, with larger effect during heating. The effect of the processing conditions on the functional properties of starch suspensions was influenced by the powder particle sized and the type of starch used. Maize starch seemed to interact more with phenolic compounds than rice starch, which resulted in a protective effect against pH and temperature variations, leading to higher antiradical activities.Biofortified rice with high Zn concentration could reduce Zn deficiency in South Asia. ITF3756 This population frequently parboils rice. True retention (TR) of Zn, Fe and phytic acid after parboiling and milling was evaluated in biofortified and non-biofortified rice. TR in milled non-parboiled rice was 63.8-89.6% for Zn, 21.1-44.5% for Fe and 16.4-40.3% for phytic acid, whereas in milled parboiled rice TR was 49.8-72.2% for Zn, 23.4-36.7% for Fe and 22.0-33.3% for phytic acid. Milled parboiled rice resulted in lower Zn TR compared to milled non-parboiled. These results suggest that Zn moves from the inner endosperm towards the outer layers during parboiling, regardless of initial Zn concentration, consequently, once milled, the potential impact of Zn intake on Zn deficiency from parboiled rice is less than non-parboiled rice. Despite Zn losses during processing, biofortified rice could provide over 50% of the Zn EAR for children.
