Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading the performance of them. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is often superior to the more modernized Common or Magic gear because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a professional or higher salvage kit to recover upgrade components from items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will absorb. The absorption of damage by an item of armor will increase as it is upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be more heavy.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional number of health points, while others make it more powerful and lighter. The kind of armor upgrade an item can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades also require fees in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the environment and looting small loot chests. Upgrading a piece of armor to its maximum upgrade level will significantly increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The added defense typically isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For instance, an upgrade may enhance the damage caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that improve their innate capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.

The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either finishing side quests, taking out a certain number of bosses or monsters, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade the more expensive the upgrade. The cost of upgrading will be lower if have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a specific number of Bars. You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels, but good base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a chance at gaining you the highest tier bonuses and blessings.

To level up faster, item upgrades will prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates use to make them stronger. Shepard, for example should upgrade his M92F so that he can unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. They can be created using an process known as jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem and several chemicals at a table. The higher the level of the gem, the better its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world through Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and, sometimes, by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The quality of a gem can be improved at the Jeweler, in stages that range from Crude to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the level the jewel is at when it's slotted into jewelry, weapons, or equipment.

The Jeweler can craft the highest levels of gems apart from the rare and legendary ones, which you must be at a certain level to get. Jewels can be replaced with another jewel without destroying the original. You can only replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.

Using more jewels in a movement can make it feel more comfortable, and is often performed to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. In addition to improving performance, the diamonds create an outer layer that is more durable than steel, so the repeated friction from pivots doesn't cause harm as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your weapons and shields. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped out at any time however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, aren't swappable and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character a variety of small, but beneficial benefits. You can find them in the starting area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained through vendors and after completing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers and later found or purchased on the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but beneficial boost in movement speed and the ability to evade. The player can then acquire necklaces, amulets, and rings in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any piece of equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and only work with certain trinkets.


These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient while inactive. It also helps compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by a hero's top stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

In the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and middle players typically choose a green or pink ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices can impact the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets that form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. They can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, for instance completing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss.
