Pathological bone fracture in paediatric bone tumours and also tumour-like skin lesions: A new predictor regarding harmless wounds?
The obtained results are used to estimate the power matrices and the average energy output of two wave energy converters suitable to be integrated into the port's infrastructure. Finally, the wave energy converters' production is compared to the average amount of energy that is forecast to be obtained from other renewable sources such as solar and wind. Due to the nature of the Gulf's wave climate (mostly low waves), the main conclusion is that the energy obtainable from the waves in the Valencia Gulf will be in correlation with such climate. However, when dealing with great energy consumers every source of production is worthwhile and further research is needed to optimize the production of energy from renewable sources and its use in an industrial environment such as ports.We examined Rose's axiom that a large number of people exposed to a small risk may generate more cases than a small number exposed to a high risk, using data on caries incidence. This longitudinal study was based on the records of annual dental checks conducted in primary schools in Okinawa, Japan. Participants were students aged 6-11 years at baseline in 2014, and a follow-up survey was conducted after one-year. The outcome variable was the increased number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT). The predictor variable was the baseline DMFT score. Gender, grade, and affiliated school variables were adjusted. A negative binomial regression model was used to obtain the estimated increase of DMFT score. Among 1542 students, 1138 (73.8%) were caries-free at baseline. A total of 317 (20.6%) developed new caries during the follow-up. The predicted number of new carious teeth in a caries-free students and students with DMFT = 1 at baseline were 0.26 (95% CI, 0.22-0.31) and 0.45 teeth (95% CI, 0.33-0.56), respectively. However, among the total of 502 newly onset of carious teeth, 300 teeth (59.7%) occurred from the caries-free students at baseline. Hence, prevention strategies should target the low-risk group because they comprise the majority of the population.This study investigates variations in the velocity and sensitivity of electromagnetic waves in transmission lines configured in defective model piles for the detection of necking defects containing soil. Experiments are performed with model piles containing defects filled with different materials, such as air, sands, and clay. Five different types of transmission lines are configured in model piles. The electromagnetic waves are generated and detected using a time domain reflectometer. The velocity of electromagnetic waves is highest when the defect is filled with air, and it decreases with an increase in the water content. The velocity is lowest when the defect is filled with clay. The sensitivity of transmission lines for detecting defects decreases with an increase in soil water contents. The transmission line with a single electrical wire and epoxy-coated rebar exhibits the highest sensitivity, followed by that with three and two parallel electrical wires. Transmission lines with a single electrical wire and uncoated rebar and those with two parallel electrical wires wrapped with a sheath exhibit poor sensitivity when the defect is filled with clay. This study demonstrates that electromagnetic waves can be effective tools for detecting necking defects with wet and conductive soils in bored piles.Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19kDa interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) is a pro-apoptotic BH3-only protein of the Bcl-2 family. Lung cancer is one of the most aggressive types of cancer, which is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Therefore, there is still urgent demand for reliable biochemical markers for lung cancer and its efficient treatment. Mitochondria functioning and mitochondrial proteins, including BNIP3, have a strong impact on lung cancer development and progression. Here, we summarized current knowledge about the BNIP3 gene and protein features and their role in cancer progression, especially in lung cancer in order to develop new therapeutic approaches associated with BNIP3.We aimed to validate four established questionnaires related to time perception in German (Consideration of Future Consequences-14 scale (CFC-14), Boredom Proneness Scale (BPS), Metacognitive Questionnaire on Time (MQT), and Self-Awareness Questionnaire (SAQ)) using a back-translation method. Exploratory factor analyses were conducted on the data of 273 German-speaking participants to evaluate the factorial structures. Internal consistencies indicated good reliability values of the questionnaires and the respective subscales, except for the MQT. Intercorrelations between the questionnaires were examined to test their external validities and gain additional insight into the associations among the constructs. The consideration of future consequences was negatively linked to boredom proneness, whereas interoceptive awareness of one's bodily sensations was positively associated with boredom proneness. Additionally, interoceptive awareness was linked to metacognitive beliefs about which factors influence time perception. The results are discussed in regard to human time perception. Conclusion The validated German questionnaires can now be used in research projects. Initial observations on how the questionnaires are related to each other fit the current knowledge on how human time perception works, yielding the first evidence for the external validity of the German versions of these established questionnaires. For evidence of criterion validity, future studies should more thoroughly investigate the external validities analyzing the correlations with other validated measures.The gut microbiota and associated metabolites have emerged as potential modulators of pathophysiological changes in obesity and related metabolic disorders. Butyrate, a product of bacterial fermentation, has been shown to have beneficial effects in obesity and rodent models of diet-induced obesity. Here, we aimed to determine the beneficial effects of butyrate (as glycerol ester of butyrate monobutyrin, MB) supplementation on metabolic phenotype, intestinal permeability and inflammation, feeding behavior, and the gut microbiota in low-fat (LF)- and high-fat (HF)-fed mice. Two cohorts (separated by 2 weeks) of male C57BL/6J mice (n = 24 in each cohort, 6/group/cohort; 6 weeks old) were separated into four weight-matched groups and fed either a LF (10 % fat/kcal) or HF (45% fat/kcal) with or without supplementation of MB (LF/MB or HF/MB) at 0.25% (w/v) in drinking water for 6 weeks. Metabolic phenotypes (body weight and adiposity), intestinal inflammation, feeding behavior, and fecal microbiome and metabolites were measured.
