A lot of investigations to assess environmental and radiological impacts of released radionuclides have been conducted by domestic and international organizations. Environmental radioactivity research related to the FDNPP accident has spread widely over different scientific fields due to specific features of the accident, and specifically its impact on the marine environment. The present paper summarizes major lessons learned from the environmental investigations of the FDNPP accident. Environmental radioactivity studies have typical interdisciplinary character; especially physics and chemistry are fundamental as a base of process studies in the environment. In this sight, we review chemical aspects regarding FDNPP-derived radiocesium transfer within and between compartments (atmosphere, ocean and land). We also discuss future trends in investigations of behavior of anthropogenic radionuclides in the environment, important not only for a better understanding of impacts of the FDNPP accident on the environment, but also for improving our general knowledge of the total environment in the Anthropocene era and its protection for the future. Many delicious foods are soft matter systems with health ingredients and unique internal structures that provide rich nutrition, unique textures, and popular flavors. Obtaining these special properties in food products usually requires specialized processes. Microfluidic technologies have been developed to physically manipulate liquids to produce a broad range of microunits, providing a suitable approach for precise fabrication of functional biomaterials with desirable interior structures in a bottom-up fashion. In this review, we present how microfluidics has been applied to produce gel-based structures and highlight their use in fabricating novel foods, focusing on, among others, cultured meat as a rapidly growing field in food industry. We first discuss the behaviors of food liquids in microchannels for fluidic structure design. Then, different types of microsized building blocks with specific geometries fabricated through microfluidics are introduced, including particles (point), fibers (line), and sheets (plane). These well-defined units can encapsulate or interact with cells, forming microtissues to construct meat products with desirable architectures. After that, we review approaches to scale up microfluidic devices for mass production of the hydrogel building blocks and highlight the challenges associated with bottom-up food production.Misreading labels, syringes, and ampoules is reported to make up a 54.4% of medication administration errors. The addition of icons to medication labels in an operating room setting could add additional visual cues to the label, allowing for improved discrimination, visibility, and easily processed information that might reduce medication administration errors. A multi-disciplinary team proposed a method of enhancing visual cues and visibility of medication labels applied to vasoactive medication infusions by adding icons to the labels. Participants were 1.12 times more likely to correctly identify medications from farther away (p less then 0.001, AOR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.02, 1.22) with icons. When icons were present, participants were 2.16 times more likely to be more confident in their identifications (p less then 0.001, AOR = 2.16, 95%CI 1.80, 2.57). Carefully designed icons may offer an additional method for identifying medications, and thus reducing medication administration errors.
Unhealthy alcohol use is disproportionally experienced by individuals with minoritized sexual orientations. Unlike the general US population, for whom the burden of alcohol as it relates to mortality is consistently monitored across time with national survey data, the impact of unhealthy alcohol use among veterans with minoritized sexual orientations, for whom addressing substance use is a national priority, is largely unknown.
Using Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test Consumption data from the Department of Veterans Affairs electronic health record and underlying cause of death from National Death Index from 2014 to 2018 we quantified alcohol consumption and related mortality among veterans with (n=102,085) and without minoritized sexual orientations (n=5300,521). Age adjusted rates of alcohol attributed deaths (AAD) per 100,000 persons and years of potential life lost (YPLL) were estimated by sexual orientation, sex, and sexual orientation stratified by sex.
Alcohol attributable deaths (n=21,861nts, and potential targeted approaches to for veterans with minoritized sexual orientations and women to offset risk for, and years of potential life lost from, alcohol attributable death.
Alcohol and cannabis are the most widely consumed psychoactive substances worldwide. This study compared the effects of alcohol and cannabis on visual function and driving performance, as well as self-perceived effects. Also, the relationship between visual effects under the influence and driving performance was studied.
Sixty-four young drivers, with a history of alcohol and/or cannabis use were included. Of these, 33 were allocated to the alcohol group and 31 to the cannabis group. All participants were evaluated in a baseline session. The alcohol group underwent two sessions after drinking 300ml and 450ml of red wine (A1 and A2). The cannabis group attended one session after smoking cannabis (C). Visual function was evaluated at the contrast sensitivity, stereoacuity, and intraocular straylight level. Participants drove a driving simulator. A general score (overall visual score, OVS; overall driving performance score, ODPS) was obtained for both visual functioning and driving performance.
The evaluation of visual function demonstrated a significant impairment in OVS for all conditions studied (A1, p=0.005; A2, p<0.001; C, p<0.001) with respect to the baseline session. General driving performance (ODPS) demonstrated a significant worsening for the A2 condition (p=0.003). Finally, a significant relationship between driving performance and visual function was found (rho=0.163, p=0.039 and χ
=4.801, p=0.028).
Cannabis and alcohol use negatively impact visual function. However, driving performance was only significantly affected by the higher alcohol dose. This impairment in visual function was significantly associated with worse driving performance.

The preliminary study of tPA plus Danhong injection (DHI) shows that it can significantly reduce the side effects of tPA and improve its thrombolytic effect, but the mechanism of this action has not been further studied. In this study, the rats were randomly divided into sham group, vehicle group, DHI group (4 mL/kg), tPA group (5 mg/kg) and DHI+tPA group (4 mL/kg+ 2.5 mg/kg), administered intravenously 4.5 h since focal embolic stroke modeling. After 3 days and 7 days of cerebral ischemia, the neurological function of each treatment group was significantly improved compared with the vehicle group. The combination of DHI and tPA significantly reduced Evans blue (EB) penetration as well as the expressions of the proteins MMP-9, PAI-1 and P-selectin, while upregulating the expressions of claudin-5, occludin, and ZO-1 mRNA. Furthermore, the effect of continuous 7-day treatment was more conspicuous than 3-day treatment. Then, it significantly reduced the expressions of the proteins DLL-4 and VEGFR-2, increased the expressions of Notch-1, HIF-1α and HES-1 mRNA, and promoted the expressions of VEGF/HIF-1α-positive cells at 14 days following stroke. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) also showed that it improved pathological changes of ischemic brain tissue and the cerebral cortex micro-structure. These indicate that DHI combined with tPA may significantly ameliorate blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption by activating Notch-VEGF signaling pathway to promote angiogenesis for long-term outcomes.
Jiao-tai-wan (JTW) has been often used to treat insomnia and diabetes mellitus. Recent studies found its antidepressant activity, but the related mechanism is not clear. This study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of JTW on chronic restraint stress (CRS)-induced depression mice and explore the potential mechanisms.
CRS was used to set up a depression model. Mice in different groups were treated with 0.9% saline, JTW and fluoxetine. After the last day of CRS, the behavioral tests were conducted. The levels of neurotransmitters, inflammatory cytokines and HPA axis index were detected and the protein expressions of NLRP3 inflammasome complex were determined. H&E, NISSL, TUNEL and immunofluorescence staining were used to observe histopathological changes and the activation of microglia and astrocytes. The potential mechanisms were explored via network pharmacology and verified by Western blot.
The assessment of liver and kidney function showed that JTW was non-toxic. Behavioral tests proved that JTW can effectively ameliorate depression-like symptoms in CRS mice, which may be related to the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation. JTW can also improve the inflammatory state and HPA axis hyperactivity in mice, and has a protective effect on CRS-induced hippocampal neurons damage. The network pharmacology analysis and the results of Western blot suggested that the antidepressant effects of JTW may be related to the MAPK signaling pathway.
Our findings indicated that JTW may exert antidepressant effects in CRS-induced mice by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation and improving inflammatory state, and MAPK signaling pathway may also be involved.

Due to the unclear etiology of rosacea, effective treatments are limited. Celastrol, a plant-derived triterpene, has been reported to alleviate inflammation in various diseases. However, whether celastrol exerts protective effects in rosacea remains to be elucidated. ODM208 In this study, weighted gene co-expression network analyses (WGCNA) were performed. Hub modules closely related to rosacea clinical characteristics were identified and found to be involved in inflammation- and angiogenesis-related signaling pathways. Then, the pharmacological targets of celastrol were predicted using the TargetNet and Swiss Target Prediction databases. A GO analysis indicated that the biological process regulated by celastrol highly overlapped with the pathogenic biological processes in rosacea. Next, we showed that celastrol ameliorated erythema, skin thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration in the dermis of LL37-treated mice. Celastrol suppressed the expression of rosacea-related inflammatory cytokines and inhibited the Th17 immune response and cutaneous angiogenesis in LL37-induced rosacea-like mice.
