A comprehensive analysis of obtained results demonstrated notable superiority of all lumped parameter models, especially in comparison to the constant outlet pressure, which regardless of bypass type gave overestimated and physiologically misleading results. In terms of rheology, it was noted that blood in undamaged coronary arteries behaves as a Newtonian fluid, whereas in vessels with atypical lumen geometry, such as that of anastomosis or stenosis, its shear-thinning behaviour should not be ignored.Dual phototherapy, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT), has shown a great prospect in cancer treatment. However, its therapeutic effect is restricted by the depth of light penetration in tissue and tumor hypoxia environment. Herein, inspired by the specific response of nanozymes to the tumor microenvironment (TME), a simple and versatile nanozyme-mediated synergistic dual phototherapy nanoplatform (denoted as FePc/HNCSs) is constructed using hollow nitrogen-doped carbon nanospheres (HNCSs) and iron phthalocyanine (FePc). FePc/HNCSs simultaneously exhibit peroxidase (POD)- and catalase (CAT)-like activities, which not only can convert endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) into highly toxic hydroxyl radicals (•OH) for catalytic therapy, but also decompose H2 O2 to oxygen (O2 ) to enhance O2 -dependent PDT. In addition, their enzyme-like activities are significantly enhanced under light irradiation. Combining with the excellent photothermal effect, FePc/HNCSs realize a high tumor inhibition rate of 96.3%. This strategy opens a new horizon for exploring a more powerful tumor treatment nanoplatform. The identification of the active sites and the derivation of structure-performance relationships are central for the development of high-performance heterogeneous catalysts. Here, a platform of platinum nanostructures, ranging from single atoms to nanoparticles of ≈4 nm supported on activated- and N-doped carbon (AC and NC), is employed to systematically assess nuclearity and host effects on the activity, selectivity, and stability in dibromomethane hydrodebromination, a key step in bromine-mediated methane functionalization processes. For this purpose, catalytic evaluation is coupled to in-depth characterization, kinetic analysis, and mechanistic studies based on density functional theory. Remarkably, the single atom catalysts achieve exceptional selectivity toward CH3 Br (up to 98%) when compared to nanoparticles and any previously reported system. Furthermore, the results reveal unparalleled specific activity over 1.3-2.3 nm-sized platinum nanoparticles, which also exhibit the highest stability. Additionally, host effects are found to markedly affect the catalytic performance. Specifically, on NC, the activity and CH3 Br selectivity are enhanced, but significant fouling occurs. On the other hand, AC-supported platinum nanostructures deactivate due to sintering and bromination. Simulations and kinetic fingerprints demonstrate that the observed reactivity patterns are governed by the H2 dissociation abilities of the catalysts and the availability of surface H-atoms.We designed a postmarketing surveillance study of linagliptin for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Korea. This prospective, observational, multicentre study investigated the safety and glycaemic effectiveness of linagliptin as monotherapy or combination therapy with other antidiabetic drugs in routine clinical practice. Endpoints were the incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and the change in HbA1c. Overall, 3119 and 2171 patients were included in the safety and effectiveness analysis sets, respectively. A total of 56 patients (1.8%) experienced ADRs. The most common ADR was gastrointestinal disorders (0.7%), followed by metabolism and nutrition disorders (0.5%). ADRs of special interest, including pancreatic diseases, cardiac diseases and hypoglycaemia, occurred in 12 patients, 11 of whom had hypoglycaemia, while one had a skin lesion. Mean HbA1c change during the study period was -0.8%. Lower body mass index, shorter diabetes duration and higher baseline HbA1c were independently associated with a better effectiveness, while the presence of diabetic complications, dyslipidaemia and the use of sulphonylureas were associated with a poor response. In conclusion, linagliptin showed an excellent safety profile and glycaemic effectiveness in Korean patients with T2D.Despite the latest advances in cardiovascular biology and medicine, myocardial infarction (MI) remains one of the major causes of deaths worldwide. While reperfusion of the myocardium is critical to limit the ischemic damage typical of a MI event, it causes detrimental morphological and functional changes known as "reperfusion injury." This complex scenario is poorly represented in currently available models of ischemia/reperfusion injury, leading to a poor translation of findings from the bench to the bedside. However, more recent bioengineered in vitro models of the human heart represent more clinically relevant tools to prevent and treat MI in patients. These include 3D cultures of cardiac cells, the use of patient-derived stem cells, and 3D bioprinting technology. This review aims at highlighting the major features typical of a heart attack while comparing current in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models. This information has the potential to further guide in developing novel advanced in vitro cardiac models of ischemia/reperfusion injury. It may pave the way for the generation of advanced pathophysiological cardiac models with the potential to develop personalized therapies.Dearomative heterocyclic [4+2] cycloaddition between the N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)pyridinium ion of nicotinamide and an enol ether was analyzed by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The calculation revealed that the reaction undergoes stepwise bond formation rather than occurring in a concerted manner. read more The experimental products were found to be both kinetically and thermodynamically favored. The calculated transition states and intermediate suggested that the high diastereoselectivity is derived from the electrostatic interaction between the 2-nitro group of the pyridinium ion and the hydrogen of the enol ether.
