In conclusion, cerebellar white matter lesions are one of the distinctive MRI features in DRPLA patients, especially in patients with older age at onset. Cerebellar white matter lesions, as well as cerebral white matter lesions, might originate from the disease process of DRPLA itself, and they often have a characteristic distribution of paravermal lesions.
We investigated whether the proportion of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) due to cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) differs between patients admitted to hospitals in the East and the West.
This international cross-sectional study included consecutive spontaneous ICH patients admitted to one stroke centre in the United Kingdom (Western centre origin) and one in Japan (Eastern centre origin) during the same period. We classified spontaneous ICH into "CAA-related" or "other" using the Edinburgh CT-based diagnostic criteria. We used multivariable logistic regression analyses to assess the relationship between CAA-related ICH and geographical location or ethnicity (White vs. East Asian or other ethnicities). Sensitivity analyses were performed using the modified Boston MRI-based diagnostic criteria for CAA-related ICH.
Of 433 patients (median age, 72years; Western centre origin, 55%), 15% were classified as CAA-related ICH. In the multivariable logistic regression model, Eastern centre and ethnicity had a lower proportion of CAA-related ICH (odds ratio [OR] vs Western centre origin 0.55, 95%CI 0.31-0.98; OR [vs. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Dapagliflozin.html White] 0.47, 95%CI 0.25-0.87); these findings remained robust in sensitivity analyses. The estimated incidence of "other" (non-CAA) ICH (attributed to hypertensive arteriopathy) was 2.5-fold higher in East Asian populations.
The proportion CAA-related ICH is lower in an Eastern compared to a Western hospital ICH population; this might be explained by a higher incidence of ICH related to hypertensive arteriopathy in East Asian populations, suggesting that optimal ICH prevention strategies might differ between the East and West.

The brain damage caused by ICH proceeds through multiple pathophysiological mechanisms, broadly differentiated into those considered primary, arising from the hematoma itself, and the secondary consequences of hematoma presence and expansion thereof. A number of interventions against ICH and its sequelae have been investigated (e.g., hemostatic therapies, blood pressure control, hematoma evacuation, and a variety of neuroprotective strategies), but conclusive demonstrations of clinical benefit have remained largely elusive. In this review, we begin with a description of these interventions and the trials in which they have been implemented, coupled with an attempt to account for their failure. Possible causes discussed include iatrogenic injury during hematoma evacuation, secondary injury initiated by hematoma persistence after evacuation, and inadequate therapeutic power arising from an excessively narrow focus on a single component of the complex pathophysiology of ICH injury. To conclude, we propose several strategies, such as enhancing endogenous hematoma resolution, hematoma evacuation-based neuroprotection, and multi-targeted therapy, that hold promise as prospects for the extension of anti-ICH therapy into the domain of clinical significance. The spatial distributions of mercury (Hg) and zinc (Zn) concentration and the isotopic composition of plutonium (Pu) were investigated in surface sediments and sediment cores collected from the Southern Yellow Sea (SYS) during May 2014. The variation of the 240Pu/239Pu atom ratio (0.18-0.31) in the surface sediments of the SYS clearly indicated a signal of close-in fallout input from the Pacific Proving Ground (PPG). The buried 239+240Pu in the sediment of the SYS was estimated to be (4.7 ± 0.5) × 1010 Bq y-1 during the period from 2011 to 2014, of which ∼33% (1.5 × 1010 Bq y-1) was derived from the PPG by long-range transport via ocean currents (e.g., the North Equatorial Current and Kuroshio Current). The concentrations of Hg and Zn varied from 0.003 to 0.067 mg kg-1 and from 43.9 to 137 mg kg-1, respectively, and exhibited positive correlations with the 239+240Pu activity both in the surface sediments (0-1 cm) and upper layers (7 cm) of the sediment cores. Therefore, by using Pu as a tracer, we estimated that the oceanic input contributed 2.0 tons y-1 of Hg and 1.0 × 103 tons y-1 of Zn to the SYS sediments between 2011 and 2014, which accounted for 33% and 3% of total buried Hg and Zn, respectively. These findings indicate that environmental pollution control should also consider the oceanic contribution of some pollutants. The results of the present work help to elucidate the biogeochemical cycling of trace metals in marginal seas, and are helpful for managing environmental pollution in marine environments.China has been experiencing a sharp increase in outdoor ozone concentration. The deposition velocity of ozone onto human surfaces strongly affects the indoor ozone concentration, and the production of oxidation products. In this study, we measured the deposition velocity of ozone onto human surfaces in six Chinese residential rooms, each housing 1-3 occupants. In addition, we estimated the corresponding emission rate of oxidation products. The measured mean value of the deposition velocity is 14.8 (±10.1) m/h, which is close to those reported in earlier studies in western countries. We also find that the ozone deposition velocity onto human surfaces is positively correlated to the weighted duration from the last laundry and bath/facial-cleansing, and it is negatively correlated to the relative humidity of the indoor air. The estimated emission rates of 6-MHO, 4-OPA, acetone, geranyl acetone, 1,4-butanedial decanal, and all gas-phase products are 7.7 × 1016, 6.7 × 1016, 9.4 × 1016, 9.7 × 1015, 1.3 × 1016, 3.4 × 1016, and 4.
