Debates and doubt around the interpretation of use-wear on stone tools called for the development of quantitative analysis of surfaces to complement the qualitative description of traces. This represents the basis for future automatic routines allowing the detection, extraction and characterization of wear on stone tools.This study aimed to assess the prevalence of lip print patterns among males and females, and to test the diagnostic accuracy of lip pattern analysis for sexual dimorphism in forensic dentistry. A systematic literature review was performed following the PRISMA guidelines. The search was performed in six primary databases and three databases to cover part of the grey literature. Observational and diagnostic accuracy studies that investigated lip print patterns through cheiloscopy for sexual dimorphism were selected. Risk of bias was assessed with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool. Proportion meta-analysis using random effects was fitted to pool the accuracy of cheiloscopy. The odds of correctly identifying males and females was assessed through a random effects meta-analysis. GRADE approach was used to assess certainty of evidence. The search found 3,977 records, published between 1982 and 2019. Seventy-two studies fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in the qualitative analysis (n = 22,965 participants), and twenty-two studies were sampled for meta-analysis. Fifty studies had low risk of bias. Suzuki and Tsuchihashi's technique was the most prevalent among studies. The accuracy of sexual dimorphism through cheiloscopy ranged between 52.7 and 93.5%, while the pooled accuracy was 76.8% (95% CI = 65.8; 87.7). There was no difference between the accuracy to identify males or females (OR = 0.71; 95% CI = 0.26; 1.99). The large spectrum of studies on sexual dimorphism via cheiloscopy depicted accuracy percentage rates that rise uncertainty and concern. On a 3-bit-delayed XOR task, we show that optical readout trained with backpropagation gives the best performance. Sintering temperature variation is chosen between the melting temperature of bulk-Ag (962 °C) and bulk-Si (1412 °C) to reduce the Ag particles and improve the crystallinity of the NWs. The melting point of NWs decreases due to surface melting that restricts the sintering temperature to 1200 °C. The minimum sintering temperature is set to 1000 °C to eradicate the Ag remanence. The SEM-EDS analysis is carried out to quantify the reduction in Ag remanence in the sintered NWs array. The XRD analysis is performed to study the oxides (SiO and Ag2O) formed in the NWs array due to the trace oxygen level in the furnace. The TG-DSC characterization is carried out to know the critical sintering temperature at which remanence of AgNPs removes without forming any oxides. The Raman analysis is studied to determine the crystallinity, strain, and size of Si nanocrystals (SiNCs) formed on the NWs surface due to sidewalls etching. An optimized polynomial equation is derived to find the SiNCs size for various sintering temperatures.Although there is growing interest in safeguarding the Tree of Life to preserve the human benefits that are directly provided by biodiversity, their evolutionary distribution remains unknown, which has hampered our understanding of the potential of phylodiversity indicators to evince them. Here, I drew on a global review of plant benefits and comprehensive phylogenetic information to breakdown their evolutionary distribution and thereby show why the commonly used Phylogenetic Diversity and Evolutionary Distinctiveness indicators can unequivocally help to preserve these natural services. Beneficial species clumped within phylogenetically overdispersed genera and closely related species often contributed very few and redundant benefits, suggesting that multiple plant lineages are required to maintain a wide variety of services. However, studies examining the associations between maternal distress and the development of attention in infancy are few. This study investigated the longitudinal relationships between maternal distress (depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and exposure to childhood trauma) and the development of focused attention in infancy in 118 mother-infant dyads. We found that maternal exposure to non-interpersonal traumatic events in childhood was associated with the less focused attention of the infants to audio-visual stimuli at 6, 10, and 18 months. In addition, exposure to interpersonal traumatic events in childhood was identified as a moderator of the negative effect of maternal anxiety during the 2nd trimester on the development of focused attention in infants. We discuss the possible mechanisms accounting for these cross-generational effects. Our findings underscore the importance of maternal mental health to the development of focused attention in infancy and address the need for early screening of maternal mental health during pregnancy.Germline mutations underlie genetic diversity and species evolution. Previous studies have assessed the theoretical mutation rates and spectra in germ cells mostly by analyzing genetic markers and reporter genes in populations and pedigrees. This study reported the direct measurement of germline mutations by whole-genome sequencing of cultured spermatogonial stem cells in mice, namely germline stem (GS) cells, together with multipotent GS (mGS) cells that spontaneously dedifferentiated from GS cells. GS cells produce functional sperm that can generate offspring by transplantation into seminiferous tubules, whereas mGS cells contribute to germline chimeras by microinjection into blastocysts in a manner similar to embryonic stem cells. The estimated mutation rate of GS and mGS cells was approximately 0.22 × 10-9 and 1.0 × 10-9 per base per cell population doubling, respectively, indicating that GS cells have a lower mutation rate compared to mGS cells. GS and mGS cells also showed distinct mutation patterns, with C-to-T transition as the most frequent in GS cells and C-to-A transversion as the most predominant in mGS cells. By karyotype analysis, GS cells showed recurrent trisomy of chromosomes 15 and 16, whereas mGS cells frequently exhibited chromosomes 1, 6, 8, and 11 amplifications, suggesting that distinct chromosomal abnormalities confer a selective growth advantage for each cell type in vitro. These data provide the basis for studying germline mutations and a foundation for the future utilization of GS cells for reproductive technology and clinical applications.
