Origin
Before Starbucks coffee beans are in your cup, they have been through a lengthy and winding route. Almost all of the world's coffee is produced in an area called the Coffee Belt, which stretches across the globe between Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. The climate, soil and the culture of each region affect the taste of the beans. Starbucks sources its coffee beans from more than 30 countries.
Most Starbucks coffees come from three major regions: Latin America, Africa and Asia-Pacific. These regions are renowned for their full-flavor, balance of acidity and weight. Starbucks also gets some of its coffee from the island of St. Helena, a volcanic tropical paradise in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The Starbucks's coffee beans are meticulously and perfectly roasted giving them the perfect flavor and smooth texture. The coffee beans are ground into a fine powder, which is ready for brewing. Roast
Starbucks roasts beans in large quantities and buys them in large quantities. The roasting process can take between 10 and 15 minutes, and the result is beans are dark roasted. Dark roasted beans possess an intense flavor, and have a full body. The beans are ground and then shipped to stores and supermarkets in the form coffee grind. The majority of the time, the coffee that is ground is not optimally suited to making the most delicious cup of coffee since it already tastes bitter. Most people add lots of sugar, cream or milk as well as flavorings and whipping cream to their coffee. This will not mask the bitterness of the coffee, but it can make the drink more appealing.
When the beans are first placed in the roaster, they begin to steam due to their internal moisture. The "first crack" is a distinct sound that signals the start of the roasting process. At this point, the sugars begin to caramelize and the bound-up water is released. At the same time the bean's structure breaks down and the oils move outward from their little pockets. The final stage is the time at which most coffees are considered to be a city roast.
The roasted beans then cool and are then separated from any stones or other impurities that have been ejected from the roaster. They are then examined by hand before being bagged and sold. Coffeee may have a dark spot, referred to as a quaker. These beans did not change colour, and thus taste burnt as is a normal circumstance and does not mean the coffee is bad but it could be a nagging surprise in your cup of coffee.
Most often, beans are cooked in small batches, sometimes as small as 20 pounds at a time. These are called "micro lots". This is because each coffee is roasted according to specifications developed by a team of coffee masters from Starbucks headquarters. The team of coffee masters creates profiles that are used in all Starbucks(r), roasting facilities across the globe. These profiles help to ensure that each cup of coffee produced will be consistent and have the same amount of body and taste.
Flavor
Starbucks buys their beans from the farm they are sourced from, so that they can aid in improving quality and ensure ethical sourcing. They also plant one coffee tree for each kilogram of beans sold. The beans themselves aren't identified by their origins to show where they come from, though some of the blends do - Veranda originates from Sumatra, Komodo Dragon from Indonesian and Anniversary is a mix of african and central american beans. The flavor profile of the beans is distinctive and they brew a smooth velvety cup with delicate balance of sweetness and smoothness.
