Here we test whether PTSD symptoms and working memory correlated with performance on a behavioral economic assessment of alcohol demand. 113 veterans (mean age 51 years; 89% male) completed an Alcohol Purchase Task (APT) and were assessed for PTSD, alcohol use, and working memory. We examined the interaction of PTSD symptoms and working memory on four indices of alcohol demand measured from the APT; specifically, we used separate models to test whether associations between working memory and intensity (consumption at $0), Omax (maximum expenditure), Pmax (price at maximum expenditure), and elasticity (price sensitivity), differed as a function of PTSD symptoms. In a model controlling for hazardous drinking, average drinking levels, age, sex, marital status, occupation, and education, we observed a significant interaction between PTSD symptoms and working memory on elasticity, whereby greater working memory capacity was associated with greater elasticity for veterans with lower PTSD symptoms. Follow-up analyses regarding specific PTSD symptom domains indicated that this effect was strongest for avoidance symptoms. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved).Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is commonly assessed using self-report items based on its symptoms as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) that are scored on a dichotomous scale (yes/no) to indicate symptom presence; however, scoring items on a dichotomy may result in relatively limited sensitivity for research. Thus, we developed a 13-item measure of CUD, the Self-Reported Symptoms of CUD (SRSCUD), based on the 11 symptoms described in the DSM-5 that is scored on a 4-point response scale indicating degree of severity. In the present study, we conduct an initial evaluation of the psychometric properties of the SRSCUD. Past-month cannabis users (N = 2,077) were recruited from nine universities in nine states throughout the U.S. Each item of the SRSCUD loaded saliently onto a single factor of CUD symptoms in both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The SRSCUD was strongly correlated with measures of cannabis use, dependence severity, and cannabis-related problems. In addition, the SRSCUD was moderately positively correlated with a well-known risk factor for CUD (coping motives) and moderately negatively correlated with a well-known protective factor for CUD (protective behavioral strategies). These correlations mostly remained statistically significant while controlling for CUD symptom count and diagnosis using dichotomized SRSCUD items. Receiver operator characteristic curve analyses revealed that the SRSCUD had excellent sensitivity/specificity for predicting probable CUD. Although more research evaluating performance of the SRSCUD compared to a clinical diagnosis is needed, we found preliminary evidence for construct validity of this measure. The current study investigated the reinforcing effects of an ecologically relevant mode of administration (inhalation) of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, and three synthetic cannabinoids detected in synthetic cannabinoid products (JWH-018, JWH-073, and HU-210) in non-human primates (NHPs). Male and female (N = 4 each) rhesus macaques were trained to inhale warm air via a metal stem to receive a candy reinforcer, an alcohol aerosol vehicle was then paired with the candy. Dose-dependent responding for inhaled aerosols of THC (2.0-16.0 μg/kg/inhalation), JWH-018 (0.2-1.6 μg/kg/inhalation), JWH-073 (2.0-8.0 μg/kg/inhalation), and HU-210 (1.0-8.0 μg/kg/inhalation) was established using a fixed-ratio five schedule of reinforcement and compared to vehicle (alcohol) self-administration. Dose-dependent responding for inhaled heroin (25.0-100.0 μg/kg/inhalation), a known reinforcer in NHPs, was also established. Responding approximated vehicle levels for many drug doses tested, but at least half of the monkeys responded for ≥ one dose of each cannabinoid and heroin above vehicle, with the exception of THC. Drug deliveries calculated as percent vehicle followed a prototypical inverted-U shaped dose-response curve for cannabinoids and heroin except for THC and JWH-018 (in males). Grouped data according to sex demonstrated that peak percent of vehicle reinforcers earned for THC was greater in males than females, whereas peak percent of vehicle reinforcers earned for JWH-018, HU-210, and heroin were greater in females than males. These findings indicate minimal reinforcing effects of CB1 receptor agonists when self-administered by NHPs via aerosol inhalation. The present study examined the interplay of youth experiences of online and offline bullying/harassment and racial-ethnic discrimination across three waves. Methods Racial-ethnic minority adolescents aged 10-19 (N = 735) at Midwest schools were surveyed yearly on Internet usage and experiences, mental well-being, and related risk and protective factors. We analyzed offline and online bullying/harassment, offline and online racial-ethnic discrimination, and time online in an autoregressive cross-lagged panel model. Results Youth who reported more of one type of victimization also reported more of other victimization types and more time online concurrently. Our results show some (but not consistent) influences over time. Youth who experienced more offline bullying/harassment at wave 1 were more likely to report more wave 2 victimization in another context (online bullying/harassment) and in other content (offline racial-ethnic discrimination), although these associations did not appear in the second wave.
