The management of narcolepsy involves non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches with an increasing number of symptomatic treatment options for adults and children that have been studied in some detail.The aim of study was to evaluate and compare the phytochemical profile, the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of two standardized extracts from non-psychotropic (Δ9 -tetrahydrocannabinol ≤0.2%) Cannabis sativa L. var. fibrante rich in cannabidiol (CBD). The two extracts, namely Cannabis Fibrante Hexane Extract 1 (CFHE1) and Cannabis Fibrante Hexane Extract 2 (CFHE2), were obtained by extraction with acidified hexane from dried flowering tops as such and after hydrodistillation of the essential oil, respectively. Gas chromatographic analysis showed that cannabinoids remained the predominant class of compounds in both extracts (82.56% and 86.38%, respectively), whereas a marked depletion of the terpenes occurred. Moreover, liquid chromatographic analysis highlighted a high titer of cannabidiol acid (CBDA) and CBD in CFHE1 and CFHE2, respectively. Both extracts showed a strong and concentration-dependent antioxidant activity and a potent antimicrobial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 (MIC and MBC of 4.88 μg/ml for CFHE1, and 4.88 and 19.53 μg/ml, respectively, for CFHE2) and methicillin resistant clinical strains (MIC values between 1.22 and 9.77 μg/ml and MBC values between 4.88 and 78.13 μg/ml). Considering this, the obtained results suggest that standardized extracts of C. sativa var. fibrante could find promising applications as novel antimicrobial agents.
To establish the risk of major bleeding in direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) users (overall and by class) versus vitamin K antagonist (VKA) users, using health care databases from four European countries and six provinces in Canada.

A retrospective cohort study was performed according to a similar protocol. First-users of VKAs or DOACs with a diagnosis of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) were included. The main outcome of interest was major bleeding and secondary outcomes included gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding and intracranial haemorrhage (ICH). Incidence rates of events per 1000 person years were calculated. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were estimated using a Cox proportional hazard regression model. Exposure and confounders were measured and analysed in a time-dependant way. Risk estimates were pooled using a random effect model.

421 523 patients were included. The risk of major bleeding for the group of DOACs compared to VKAs showed a pooled HR of 0.94 (95% CI 0.87-1.02). Rivaroxaban showed a modestly increased risk (HR 1.11, 95% CI 1.06-1.16). Apixaban and dabigatran showed a decreased risk of respectively HR 0.76 (95% CI 0.69-0.84) and HR 0.85 (95% CI 0.75-0.96).

The aim of our study was to investigate the outcomes for these rare subtypes using the National Cancer Database. Female patients diagnosed with ITC or IMC between 2005 and 2014 were analyzed. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS), and we analyzed its association with adjuvant therapy. 2735 patients with ITC and 5602 patients with IMC were identified. ITC presented in younger patients (57 vs. 67 years), had smaller tumors (size less then 1 cm, 63.1% vs. 25.4%), earlier stage, and less node-positive disease (5% vs. 8.6%), compared with IMC. Older age, government insurance, lower income, treatment in a community cancer program, large tumor size, positive nodal status, and without endocrine therapy were associated with worse OS with either subtype on multivariate analysis. No OS benefit was found for node-positive ITC that received adjuvant chemotherapy compared with those who did not. (5-year OS of 96.0% vs. 91.3%, p = 0.17).OS was improved for IMC that received adjuvant chemotherapy (10-year OS 82.5% vs. 60.1%, p = 0.008) and endocrine therapy (10-year OS 86.6% vs. 81.2%, p less then 0.001). We concluded that ITC has favorable clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis, even with node-positive disease. We hypothesized that combining two ejaculates increases semen doses per cryopreservation process without negative effects on semen characteristics. Total sperm count was lower in semen from a single semen collection in comparison with the combination of the first and second ejaculate of a dual semen collection (p less then .001). The percentage of motile and membrane-intact spermatozoa determined by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) in raw semen did not differ between single and combined dual ejaculates and was reduced (p less then .001) by cryopreservation to the same extent in single (motility 73.7 ± 1.8%, membrane integrity 65.6 ± 2.2%) and combined dual ejaculates (motility 72.7 ± 2.3%, membrane integrity 64.6 ± 2.5%). The percentage of spermatozoa with morphological defects increased after cryopreservation (p less then .001) but was similar in single and combined dual ejaculates. The decomposition of these compounds generates highly reactive Cl, OH, and CF3 radicals exclusively in the irradiated areas, which subsequently attach onto the graphene leading to locally controlled chlorination, hydroxylation, and trifluoromethylation, respectively. This is the first realization of a patterned hydroxylation of graphene, and the degrees of functionalization of the patterned chlorination and trifluoromethylation are both unprecedented. The usage of these mild reagents here is reasonably facile compared to the reported methods using hazardous Cl2 or ICl and allows for sophisticated pattern designs with nanoscale precision, promising for arbitrary nanomanipulation of graphene's properties like hydrophilicity and conductivity by the three distinct functionalities (Cl, OH, and CF3 ).
