Resetting your Apple ID password via email is another effective option if you don't have access to all your devices or simply don't wish to go through the hassle of changing passwords on every one. To use this method, launch an application that uses your Apple ID - such as Messages or Mail - then enter both your Apple ID and lock screen passcode for authentication, in order to display a code; write down this recovery key number before following prompts from Apple to change your password.
If you wish to use this approach, you must be able to sign into your Apple ID on one of the trusted devices listed under your name card in System Settings (Mac) or while logged into an iPhone or iPad. In addition, your preferred email address, phone number linked with your account and payment card associated with Apple ID should all be available; additionally you will be asked a series of security questions as well as entering a 14-character Recovery Key if two-step verification has been enabled.
Once you have entered all the requested information, the reset should take less than one minute and will appear as "Completed" in your list of Apple apps. If after 24 hours you do not receive confirmation or reset email(s), contact Apple Support immediately for assistance.
Resetting your Apple ID password can be a straightforward process if you have the proper tools at your disposal. Be sure to set up Recovery Contacts and answer security questions ahead of time in case you forget your password, so that when the time comes you can quickly get back into your account.
