20%, for bricks incorporating 1% CBs. The thermal conductivity of the samples showed a reduction of 17% from 1.078 to 0.898 W m-1·K-1 with the addition of 1% CBs. In addition, the manufactured bricks were tested for efflorescence, an initial rate of absorption (IRA), microstructural analysis, and shrinkage. A life-cycle assessment (LCA) is recommended to analyze the environmental impacts of bricks incorporating CBs.In this study we describe the use of an aminoethylamino-β-cyclodextrin (AEA-β-CD) as a supramolecular homogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of a series of diversely substituted quinaldine derivatives which are medicinally important, via Pfitzinger reaction. This supramolecular catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activity with high substrate scope to achieve the synthetic targets in good to excellent yield, 69-92%. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized AEA-β-CD were determined through MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, NMR, FT-IR, and SEM analysis. Possible reaction mechanisms were determined through molecular host-guest complexation and proposed based on 2D NMR (ROESY) spectroscopy, FT-IR, FE-SEM, and DSC.The development of anti-icing, anti-frosting transparent plates is important for many reasons, such as poor visibility through the ice-covered windshields of vehicles. We have fabricated new glass surfaces coated with polypeptides which mimic a part of winter flounder antifreeze protein. We adopted glutaraldehyde and polyethylene glycol as linkers between these polypeptides and silane coupling agents applied to the glass surfaces. We have measured the contact angle, the temperature of water droplets on the cooling surfaces, and the frost weight. In addition, we have conducted surface roughness observation and surface elemental analysis. It was found that peaks in the height profile, obtained with the atomic force microscope for the polypeptide-coated surface with polyethylene glycol, were much higher than those for the surface without the polypeptide. This shows the adhesion of many polypeptide aggregates to the polyethylene glycol locally. The average supercooling temperature of the droplet for the polypeptide-coated surface with the polyethylene glycol was lower than for the polypeptide-coated surface with glutaraldehyde and the polyethylene-glycol-coated surface without the polypeptide. In addition, the average weight of frost cover on the specimen was lowest for the polypeptide-coated surface with the polyethylene glycol. These results argue for the effects of combined polyethylene glycol and polypeptide aggregates on the locations of ice nuclei and condensation droplets. Thus, this polypeptide-coating with the polyethylene glycol is a potential contender to improve the anti-icing and anti-frosting of glasses.Collaborative knowledge generation and involvement of users is known to improve health promotion intervention development, but research about the roles and perspectives of users in the co-creation process is sparse. This research aimed to study how young people perceived their involvement in a co-creation process focussed on the development of a gamified virtual reality (VR) simulation-VR FestLab. The Living Lab methodology was applied to structure and guide the co-creation process. Living Lab participants were comprised of students, health promotion practitioners, researchers, and film and gaming experts who collaboratively designed and created the content and structure of the VR FestLab. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine students who participated in the Living Lab and represented young end users. Interviews were tape-recorded, transcribed and thematically analysed. Students described that they had influence on their tasks. They felt included and expressed that the collaboration with and feedback from peers and other stakeholders increased their self-efficacy and empowered them to take ownership and generate new ideas. Participants voiced that they lacked information about the final production of VR FestLab. Co-creation guided by the Living Lab methodology produced added value in terms of empowerment and increased self-efficacy for the students involved. Future Living Labs should plan for communication with participants about further development and implementation processes following ideation and prototyping phase. This paper introduces a three-dimensional (3D) pyramid to the polymers-plasmonic hybrid structure of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composite silver nanoparticle (AgNPs) as a higher quality flexible surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate. Benefiting from the effective oscillation of light inside the pyramid valley could provide wide distributions of 3D "hot spots" in a large space. The inclined surface design of the pyramid structure could facilitate the aggregation of probe molecules, which achieves highly sensitive detection of rhodamine 6G (R6G) and crystal violet (CV). In addition, the AgNPs and PMMA composite structures provide uniform space distribution for analyte detection in a designated hot spot zone. The incident light can penetrate the external PMMA film to trigger the localized plasmon resonance of the encapsulated AgNPs, achieving enormous enhancement factor (~ 6.24 × 10 8 ). After undergoes mechanical deformation, the flexible SERS substrate still maintains high mechanical stability, which was proved by experiment and theory. For practical applications, the prepared flexible SERS substrate is adapted to the in-situ Raman detection of adenosine aqueous solution and the methylene-blue (MB) molecule detection of the skin of a fish, providing a direct and nondestructive active-platform for the detecting on the surfaces with any arbitrary morphology and aqueous solution.Older people in institutional care are, for the most part, physically inactive and do not interact with each other or medical staff. Therefore, reducing sedentary behaviour is a new, important, and modifiable lifestyle variable that can improve the health of elderly people. find more The aim of the project was to assess the degree of improvement in functional performance and the possibility of changing habitual, free time behaviour among elderly people under institutional care by applying physical training with verbal stimulation. The study covered older people, aged 65-85 years, who are living a sedentary lifestyle in care homes in Southeastern Poland. Those who met the eligibility criteria were enrolled in the study and were assigned, at random, to one of four parallel groups basic exercises (n = 51), basic exercises combined with verbal stimulation (n = 51), functional exercise training (n = 51), and functional exercise training with verbal stimulation (n = 51). No statistically significant differences in baseline characteristics were observed across the groups.
