Issue As medical education continues to grapple with issues of systemic racism and oppression within its institutions, educational researchers will undoubtedly turn to critical theory to help illuminate these issues. Selleck FX11 Critical theory refers both to a "school of thought" and a process of critique that reveals the dynamic forces impacting minoritized groups and individuals. Critical theory can be helpful when researchers want to examine or expose social structures for their asymmetrical power differentials, and subsequently act upon them to create change. Evidence However, despite the repeated calls for more critical work in medical education, merely describing critical theory's school of thought has not forwarded researchers' engagement with these theories. Presently, critical analyses remain rare in medical education. One potential reason for the lack of critical analyses is that there is little guidance for how researchers might engage with their data and approach their findings. Implications In this paper, we go beyond merely describing critical theory and demonstrate how critical theory can be used as an analytic approach to interrogate the experiences of minoritized individuals in medical education. Using three critical theories critical race theory, feminist theory, and postcolonial theory, we provide an illustration of how researchers might approach their data using one of three critical theories. In doing so, we hope to assist researchers in better understanding the utility of critical analyses to illuminate sociohistorical forces at work within medical education. The purpose of this study was to validate in French the Suicidal Ideation Attributes Scale (SIDAS) using an online community survey that was completed by 2304 French-speaking Quebec participants (adolescents and adults). The SIDAS-FR demonstrated high internal consistency (α = .83), a unifactorial structure, and strong convergent validity with relevant constructs. Cutoff scores of ≥13 for moderate severity and ≥20 for high severity of suicidal ideations were optimal. The excellent psychometric properties of the French-Canadian version of the SIDAS support its use as an effective tool for online screening of suicidal ideations, for both adolescents and adults.
The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated a rapid transition to telehealth for the delivery of many Australian physiotherapy services. Little is known about new-graduate training needs in this method of service delivery.Aim.

Qualitative individual telephone interviews of new-graduate physiotherapists (n=16) and two videoconference focus groups of supervisors of new-graduate physiotherapists (n=7) were undertaken. Thematic analysis was used.

Two global themes each with three organizing themes were generated. The two global themes were "support needs for novice practitioners" and "how to best prepare for telehealth."

New-graduate physiotherapists and supervisors perceive that pre-professional exposure to, and practical skills training for, telehealth is essential. Elements such as undertaking physical assessments via telehealth, verbal communication, and effective clinical reasoning in telehealth assessment and treatment were highlighted as areas of need. Both stakeholder groups perceived that the rapid transition to telehealth challenged the self-efficacy of new-graduates as they did not have clinical experience to rely on. The preparation, and ongoing support of new-graduates to adopt telehealth in the workplace is considered critical given the shift in Australian healthcare to online platforms.

Primary hyperhidrosis is a disorder that involves excessive sweat production, which has a negative impact on the quality of life.

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathectomy (VATS) for treating primary axillary hyperhidrosis (PAH) and determine which level of ganglion resection offers the best outcome.

This was a systematic review and proportional meta-analysis of observational studies. The result was evaluated for satisfaction, control of symptoms, compensatory sweating and complications. A subgroup analysis was performed to compare the sympathetic trunk resection at high and low levels.

Thirteen studies were selected with a total of 1463 patients. The satisfaction rate was 92% (95% CI = 88-95%,

=47.5%), the symptom control rate was 96% (95% CI = 93-99%,

=48.2%), and the presence of compensatory sweating could not be assessed because of high heterogeneity among studies. The complications were rare.

This review demonstrated that thoracic sympathectos a viable and safe option for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis. This study aimed to validate the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Population Screener (COPD-PS) questionnaire as a screening tool in a cohort of Chinese subjects who underwent a health examination, and to summarise its overall performance through a meta-analysis. We enrolled 997 subjects aged ≥40 years who underwent a health examination, both lung function and COPD-PS data were collected. The screening performance of COPD-PS was evaluated with a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, using the area under the curve (AUC) to assess the screening accuracy. A standard diagnostic meta-analysis was used to summarise the screening performance of COPD-PS for COPD. Of the 997 subjects, 157 were identified as having COPD. The COPD-PS score was significantly higher in COPD patients than controls (5.03 ± 5.11 vs. 2.72 ± 1.80, p  less then  .001). At a cut-off of 4, the sensitivity and specificity of COPD-PS for identifying COPD were 74.52 and 70.24%, respectively, with an AUC of 0.79. Eight studies (including this study) were included in this meta-analysis.
