The COVID-19 pandemic has forced both quantitative and qualitative health researchers to adapt and strategize data collection strategies without causing any harm to the participants or researchers. This has resulted in utilizing various types of strategies such as online surveys and synchronous virtual platforms such as Zoom and Webex. This transition from face-to-face to synchronous online platforms has helped in increasing coverage as well as reaching participants who are otherwise unreachable. While quantitative health researchers seem to have made a seamless transition to synchronous online platforms, qualitative health researchers who rely on studying participants in their "real-world-settings" are facing unique challenges with online data collection strategies. This article critically examines the benefits and challenges of implementing qualitative health research studies via synchronous online platforms and provides several practical considerations that can inform qualitative health researchers. It can also assist Institutional Review Board members in reviewing and implementing qualitative health research study protocols in a manner that preserves the integrity, richness, and iterative nature of qualitative research methodology. This paper presents a teaching experiment in which 3D digital computational models are explored as the representational base to integrate formal, structural, and environmental performance criteria in design. By describing the academic experience, the paper reflects on its methodologies and results, as well as on the relation between human and computer factors in the design process. This assessment is important to make the students aware of the increasingly intelligent design systems offered by digital technologies to support architectural design, as well as of their relationship with precedent digital and analog representational mediums.During the COVID-19 pandemic, contact tracing apps based on the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology found in smartphones have been deployed by multiple countries despite BLE's debatable performance for determining close contacts among users. Current solutions estimate proximity based on a single feature the mean attenuation of the BLE signal. In this context, a new generation of these apps which better exploits data from the BLE signal and other sensors available on phones can be fostered. Collected data can be used to extract multiple features that feed machine learning models which can potentially improve the accuracy of today's solutions. In this work, we consider the use of machine learning models to evaluate different feature sets that can be extracted from the received BLE signal, and assess the performance gain as more features are introduced in these models. Since indoor conditions have a strong impact in assessing the risk of being exposed to the SARS-CoV-2, we analyze the environment (indoor or outdoor) role in these models, aiming at understanding the need for apps that could increase proximity accuracy if aware of its environment. Results show that a better accuracy can be obtained in outdoor locations with respect to indoor ones, and that indoor proximity estimation can benefit more from the introduction of more features with respect to the outdoor estimation case. Accuracy can be increased about 10% when multiple features are considered if the device is aware of its environment, reaching a performance of up to 83% in indoor spaces and up to 91% in outdoor ones. These results encourage future contact tracing apps to integrate this awareness not only to better assess the associated risk of a given environment but also to improve the proximity accuracy for detecting close contacts. An immunoinformatics technique was used to predict a monovalent amide immunogen candidate capable of producing therapeutic antibodies as well as a potent immunogen candidate capable of acting as a universal vaccination against all dengue fever virus serotypes. The capsid protein is an attractive goal for anti-DENV due to its position in the dengue existence cycle. The widely accessible immunological data, advances in antigenic peptide prediction using reverse vaccinology, and the introduction of molecular docking in immunoinformatics have directed vaccine manufacturing. The C-proteins of DENV-1-4 serotypes were known as antigens to assist with logical design. Binding epitopes for TC cells, TH cells, and B cells is predicted from structural dengue virus capsid proteins. Each T cell epitope of C-protein integrated with a B cell as a templet was used as a vaccine and produce antibodies in contrast to serotype of the dengue virus. A chimeric tetravalent vaccine was created by combining four vaccines, each representing four dengue serotypes, to serve as a standard vaccine candidate for all four Sero groups. The LKRARNRVS, RGFRKEIGR, KNGAIKVLR, and KAINVLRGF from dengue 1, dengue 2, dengue 3, and dengue 4 epitopes may be essential immunotherapeutic representatives for controlling outbreaks.During the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents suddenly had to assume responsibility for their children's learning at home. Research conducted before the pandemic showed that mathematics homework is often unsuccessful or stressful for both parents and children and that tension exists between home and school in the learning of mathematics. Understanding parents' experience of home-learning mathematics during lockdown has implications for positive learning relationships between home and school in the future. During the lockdown, we sent an online survey to New Zealand parents and received 634 responses. We found that parents were generally very engaged in the home learning of mathematics. They reported a range of opinions about the quality of mathematics work and teacher support, and there was a correlation between general stress levels and negative opinions. To further support their child's mathematics learning, many parents turned to online mathematics programs, about which they were very positive. Parents of younger children were more positive about their overall home-learning experiences of mathematics, but the crisis brought to the fore several pre-existing issues. We argue that these findings have implications for mathematics home learning in the future; we suggest that schools listen to parental feedback regarding the quality, level, and quantity of mathematics work. Additionally, schools could consider ways to deliver effective teacher support and to foster parental agency in helping their children with mathematics learning. This article aims to check whether there has been a price bubble in the Polish major housing markets in recent years. To accomplish this goal, the log price-to-rent ratios in Polish provincial cities were analysed. In order to avoid incorrect conclusions, the log price-to-rent ratio using the instrumental variable estimation and ordinary least squares methods was decomposed into two components fundamental and non-fundamental. The latter was then examined using the Phillips, Shi, and Yu procedure to detect explosive and downward movements. The results of the study showed that, in general, over 2011, actual log price-to-rent ratios in the analysed cities were below their fundamental values, i.e., a negative price bubble existed. However, more or less since the beginning of 2013, the surveyed markets have seen an increasing level of the non-fundamental component of the index under study, and its particularly explosive movements are visible in the first quarters of 2014. Finally, this analysis indicated future research directions and study implications for Polish policy-makers, housing investors, and households.Metformin pharmacokinetics in a liquid extemporaneous formulation from commercial tablets was determined in paediatric patients. selleck chemical A randomized, transversal clinical trial was conducted in 34 children and adolescents between 7 and 17 years of age. 17 children were randomized to take metformin in the liquid formulation and, after a 1-week wash period, a 500 mg metformin tablet was administered to them. Blood samples were obtained in Whatman 903® cards at 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hours. Extraction was made by direct precipitation with acetonitrile (ACN) and methanol, detection by UPLC and tandem mass spectrometry. The method was accurate, precise, selective and linear from 50 to 1000 ng/mL (r = .9982). Comparative pharmacokinetics, tablet vs formulation, were as follows Cmax 1503.2 ng/mL vs 1521.4, Tmax 1.5 h vs 2.3, and half-life 8.2 vs 7.5 h. The liquid formulation of metformin showed similar pharmacokinetics to the tablet, and the ratios (90% CI) of geometric mean for metformin were 100.63% (89.13-113.6), 98.08% (88.04-109.2), and 97.52% (84.9-112.01), for Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC 0-∞, respectively. Pharmacokinetics was determined using WinNonlin Pro 3.1 software. The liquid formulation of metformin showed similar pharmacokinetics to the tablet, allowing a more precise dose adjustment and ease of administration. The current coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic constitutes a significant public health problem worldwide, as well as mental health problems. This study aimed to evaluate the mental health of COVID-19 survivors, considering their sociodemographic, clinical, and immune variables. A cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted on 318 COVID-19 survivors from one hospital in Peru. Through telephone interviews, evaluation of the presence of depressive symptoms using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, anxiety symptoms through the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, somatic symptoms through Patient Health Questionnaire-15, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms through Impact of Event Scale-Revised was carried out. Poisson regression analyses were performed with their adjusted variances to calculate the prevalence ratio (PR) with their 95% confidence interval. All regression models were adjusted (PRa) for follow-up time. A significant proportion of patients have depressive (30.9%), anxious (31.1%), somatic (35.2%), and PTSD (29.5%) symptoms. The variables associated with a higher frequency of clinically relevant mental symptoms were female sex, self-perception of greater COVID-19 severity, presence of persistent COVID-19 symptoms, loss of a family member due to COVID-19, and prior psychiatric diagnosis or treatment. In addition, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was significantly higher in patients with clinically relevant symptoms of depression. COVID-19 survivors showed a high prevalence of negative mental symptoms. Our findings help to identify patients who are vulnerable and require psychiatric care. Many people experience high burden by the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and its consequences for health and everyday life. The present cross-national study investigated potential factors that can reduce the burden by COVID-19 in China and Germany. Cross-sectional and longitudinal (China N = 474, baseline, BL 2015, follow-up, FU 2020; Germany N = 359, BL 2019, FU 2020) data on physical activity (e.g., jogging) (BL/FU), positive mental health (PMH) (BL/FU), and burden by COVID-19 (FU) were collected via online surveys. In both countries, physical activity was positively associated with PMH, and both variables were negatively related to burden by COVID-19. Furthermore, PMH mediated the link between physical activity and burden. The mediation model was significant when physical activity and PMH were assessed at the BL, while burden was measured at the FU; and it was also significant when all variables were assessed at the FU. The present findings reveal that physical activity in combination with PMH can reduce the experience of burden by COVID-19.
