There are no study results on the private and professional satisfaction and the burnout risk of urologists with a migrant background at German hospitals to date. Non-medical reading has been described to have an influence on lower burnout rates among physicians of different specialties.

A SurveyMonkey questionnaire with 101 items on criteria characterising the study participant, questions on private and professional satisfaction and the complete Maslach Burnout Inventory was opened to urologists with a migrant background at German clinics between August and October 2020. The impact of non-medical reading on professional satisfaction and burnout was comparatively assessed (group A ≤1 book/12 months versus group B ≥2 books/12 months).

Eighty-one study participants were included. They were almost equally distributed into groups A (49.4%) and B (50.6%). In several items on personal and professional satisfaction, there was a significantly higher satisfaction in group B. In the burnout dimensions of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalisation (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA), a high risk of burnout was present in 27.9%, 35.3% and 73.5% of the study participants. A group comparison revealed significant advantages for Group B in the PA dimension in both the sum score (
=0.001) and the categorical comparison (
=0.002). Study participants in Group B also had a significantly lower DP dimension sum score compared with Group A (
=0.047). The group variable was independently associated with a combined score of EE and DP on the one hand (OR 0.316;
=0.031) and the PA dimension on the other (OR 0.170;
=0.024).

Reading non-medical books was associated with higher professional satisfaction and a lower burnout risk among urologists with a migrant background at German hospitals.

Current yield gains will not meet 2050 needs, and climate stresses compound this challenge. However, there is good evidence that heat and drought resilience can be boosted through translating promising ideas into novel breeding technologies using powerful new tools in genetics and remote sensing, for example. Such technologies can also be applied to identify climate resilience traits from among the vast and largely untapped reserve of wheat genetic resources in collections worldwide. This review describes multi-pronged research opportunities at the focus of the Heat and Drought Wheat Improvement Consortium (coordinated by CIMMYT), which together create a pipeline to boost heat and drought resilience, specifically improving crop design targets using big data approaches; developing phenomic tools for field-based screening and research; applying genomic technologies to elucidate the bases of climate resilience traits; and applying these outputs in developing next-generation breeding methods. Linsitinib supplier The global impact of these outputs will be validated through the International Wheat Improvement Network, a global germplasm development and testing system that contributes key productivity traits to approximately half of the global wheat-growing area.Initial assessment and triage of burns is guided by the American Burn Association criteria for referral to a burn centre. These criteria are sensitive but not specific, and can potentially lead to over-triage and "unnecessary" clinic visits. We are a Level 1 trauma centre with burn subspecialty care, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, referrals to our multidisciplinary outpatient burn clinic required triaging for virtual care appointments. In order to improve the triage process, we retrospectively reviewed our outpatient burn clinic referrals over a 2-year period 2018-2019, for adherence to American Burn Association criteria. We collected data pertaining to patient and burn characteristics, as well as treatment outcome, to characterize referrals not requiring an in-person appointment. Of the 244 patients referred, 73% met the referral criteria, with 45% of these patients being healed at first visit and 14.6% requiring surgical management. Mean time from injury to first visit was 9.7 days (mode 6), and average number of visits was 2. Overall, mean burn size was 2%, with the majority of injuries being partial thickness (71%), located in the hand or extremity (77%). There was fairly equal distribution of contact (36%), flame (21%), and scald (26%) burns. This study highlights the non-specific nature of the American Burn Association referral criteria. We found that paediatric and hand burns in particular were over-triaged and lead to "unnecessary" appointments. This information is useful to help adjust referral criteria and to guide triaging of appointments with the evolution of telehealth and virtual care.In a letter to Carreon and Manansala, the authors have stressed the urgency to address the psychosocial needs of the students in an online learning platform. But I argue that it is also crucial not to ignore its impact on parents who have to adapt and adopt strategies to guide their kids in their online learning process while also looking after their responsibilities as career persons. Online learning has caused a significant impact on their mental well-being, and this letter aims to address this particular concern.Myocardial ischemia and left ventricular dysfunction have been documented in young adults with familial hypercholesterolemia. We investigated whether speckle-tracking echocardiography can be used to detect subclinically impaired global and regional myocardial function in patients with this lipid disorder. This single-center study included 47 patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and 37 healthy control subjects who underwent transthoracic Doppler echocardiography and speckle-tracking echocardiography from January 2003 through December 2016. Conventional echocardiographic and strain parameters in the 2 groups were analyzed and compared. Left ventricular dimensions were significantly larger at end-diastole (P=0.02) and end-systole (P=0.013), left ventricular walls were significantly thicker (P less then 0.0001), and the early transmitral/early diastolic mitral annular velocity ratio was significantly higher (P=0.006) in the patient group than in the control group. In the patient group, global longitudinal and circumferential strain values were significantly lower (P less then 0.
