The temporary availability of oxygen was observed at the plume fringes, resulting in aerobic and ferric iron reducing biodegradation processes. Bubbles made of N2-gas were stabilized with either a cationic surfactant (Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide, CTAB), silica nanoparticles, or a combination of them. The concentrations of the surface active materials were selected upon foamability and stability tests. Column-flood tests were run until steady-state changing nanoparticle concentration, foam quality (fg), and flow rate. A synergistic behaviour of surfactant and nanoparticles help the formation of a strong foam. The measurements were used to validate a mechanistic model, presented in our earlier work (Li and Prigiobbe, 2020), which couples foam and nanoparticles transport with agglomeration and extended-DLVO theory. The model agrees well with the measurements and results show that an high-quality (ca. 90% gas fraction) can be used to carry nanoparticles and the efficient increases with flow velocity. This opens the opportunity for the application of foam as a carrier of nanoparticles in subsurface applications such as the remediation of contaminated sites and makes the model a valuable tool to design and predict such operations.Characterizing the viscoelastic behavior of neonatal peripheral nerves is critical in understanding stretch-related peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) in neonates. This study investigated the in-vitro viscoelastic stress relaxation response of neonatal piglet brachial plexus (BP) and tibial nerves at two different strain levels (10% and 20%) and stress relaxation testing durations (90- and 300-seconds). BP and tibial nerves from 20 neonatal piglets were harvested and pre-stretched to either 10% or 20% strain at a dynamic rate of 100 mm/min to simulate conditions, such as shoulder dystocia, that may lead to stretch-related PNIs in neonates. At constant strain, the reduction in stress was recorded for 90- or 300-seconds. The biomechanical data were then fit to a viscoelastic model to acquire the short- and long-term stress relaxation time-constants. Though no significant differences in the degree of stress relaxation were found between the two tested strain levels after 90 seconds in both nerve types, reduction in stress was moderately greater (p = 0.056) at 10% strain than at 20% for BP after 300 seconds. The reduction in stress was significantly higher in nerves subjected to a 300 second testing duration than 90 second for both strain levels and nerve types. When comparing BP and tibial nerve stress relaxation response, BP nerve relaxed significantly more than tibial at both strain levels after 90 seconds, but no significant differences were observed after 300 seconds. Our results confirm that neonatal peripheral nerve tissue is highly viscoelastic. These novel biomechanical data can be incorporated into finite element and computational models studying neonatal PNIs.Bones are an important source of DNA for identification in forensic medicine, especially when the remains are skeletonized, which is the case when dealing with victims of the Second World War. Often the amount of bone available for sampling is limited, and therefore it is crucial to sample the bone segment with the highest adequate DNA quantity for identification. Studies performed on all representative skeletal element types of the human body showed that the amount of DNA obtained from different skeletal elements of different body regions varies greatly. When bones from torso were analyzed, thoracic vertebrae outperformed other vertebrae (cervical and lumbar) and, alongside the first ribs, were among the most appropriate bone elements for identification purposes. It was also shown that the quantity of DNA varies significantly within a single bone type. This study focused on exploring intra-bone DNA variability between five parts of 12th thoracic vertebrae (laminae + spinous process, pedicles + transverse proa few dropouts occurred. The second-ranked bone part was the pedicles and transverse processes. The comparison of DNA degradation in the vertebral segments analyzed does not show statistically significant differences. Considering our research, when only the torso is available for identification, the 12th thoracic vertebra should be collected and the vertebral arch should be sampled for genetic analyses.
We report a case of pneumocephalus, which is identified as the presence of air in the cranial cavity and is a rare complication after spinal surgeries, in addition to a literature review of similarly reported cases.

The patient is a 63-year-old male who developed pneumocephalus after undergoing a minimally invasive left side decompression at L3-L4 with left L4 foraminotomy even though there were no signs of dural tears or Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leaks. After the diagnosis of pneumocephalus using brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), the patient was treated conservatively and was discharged after 3weeks without developing further complications.

Pneumocephalus is defined as an abnormal accumulation of air within the cranial cavity. It can occur due to a variety of causes but rarely due to gas forming bacteria. Many theories are suggested concerning the pathophysiology of pneumocephalus, the inverted bottle theory, the ball valve theory, the Nitrous Oxide (N
O) theory, and as we outweigh in our case, gas forming bacteria theory. Pneumocephalus can be treated surgically, nevertheless, conservative management methods of such cases are usually followed.

The aim of this study is to draw further attention to the management and diagnosis of such surgical complication. A more extended research is needed to provide a full comprehensive approach to deal with this problem if faced in the future. To the best of our knowledge, this study reports the first pneumocephalus case induced by a postoperative bacterial infection in the global English based medical literature.

There are no reports regarding sigmoid colon strangulation caused by bilateral fallopian tubes, which is a rare type of large bowel obstruction. Herein, we report a case of successful laparoscopic treatment of sigmoid colon strangulation.

A 54-year-old woman presented to our hospital with intermittent abdominal pain. Her medical history was significant for endometriosis; however, there was no surgical history. The physical examination revealed tenderness over the lower abdomen. CT scan shows closed loop obstruction of sigmoid colon. 5-FU concentration Exploratory laparoscopy was performed, and a sigmoid colon strangulated by bilateral fallopian tubes was detected. The adhesions consisting of bilateral fallopian tubes were dissected laparoscopically. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful, with no complications.

The most common cause of large bowel obstruction (LBO) is colorectal cancer, including volvulus and diverticulitis. In this case, the adhesion of both the right and left fallopian tubes caused LBO, and it is conceivable that the etiology involved is endometriosis. Few cases have reported bowel obstruction associated with a fallopian tube, and the laparoscopic approach is very rare. In our case, we immediately performed laparoscopic exploration before colon strangulation led to necrosis or perforation. Therefore, we succeeded in releasing the strangulation laparoscopically.

Intrathyroidal parathyroid is a parathyroid completely embedded within the thyroid parenchyma. The aim of this study is to present a case with co-occurring bilateral normal intrathyroidal parathyroid glands and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

A 35-year-old female presented with anterior neck swelling for a duration of a week. The patient was generally asymptomatic. Ultrasound showed mild enlargement of the thyroid gland, and a well-defined solid nodule measuring 9∗8∗7mm in the left lobe with malignant characteristics. Laboratory findings were within normal limits. Fine needle aspiration of the nodule resulted in the diagnosis of PTC. The patient underwent total thyroidectomy. Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of well differentiated multifocal bilateral PTC alongside two bilaterally located intrathyroidal parathyroid glands.

The occurrence of normal ITP is exceedingly rare, and even rarer when simultaneous with other thyroidal lesions. It is theorized that inferior parathyroid glands arise from the third pharyngeal pouch, and during embryogenesis they might migrate to other anatomic locations. In this case, two bilateral normal ITP were present with PTC.

While many patients with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-mediated disease (MOG-AD) will have a monophasic course, 30-80% of patients will relapse after the initial attack. It is not known which factors predict relapse. Here we describe our clinical experience with MOG-AD and evaluate for factors that correlate with relapsing disease.

This was a retrospective, multi-institutional study of 54 patients with MOG-AD, including 17 children and 37 adults. Mann-Whitney U and Fischer's Exact tests were used for comparisons and logistic regression for correlations.
