Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment with new attachments. They can also boost its stats base or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons, armor and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or extra impact when the equipment is being used. To upgrade an item of armor, the player has to choose it and click the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade statistics and the components or materials required for the upgrade.

There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems) Prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, such as gems, are able to be used on any kind of equipment. They provide a smaller bonus than upgrade components that have a type restriction. Infusions are jewels that can only be used in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They offer the same benefits as jewels, but they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, add their names to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for example adding a Glyph to an item that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would change it to a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If the player upgrades their gathering tool and replaces the glyphs by a different one, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from earlier versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item can be upgraded as many times before it is "leveled out." The cost of upgrading is increased with each level however, the materials needed aren't as high. This allows players to focus their efforts on a couple of important items to maximize their impact instead of spreading the upgrade costs across multiple items.

Once an item has been completed and is leveled out, it will be eligible for an upgrade set of components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy. It will reset at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its highest level, it will be able to receive affixes that will increase its features. The number of affixes that are available is contingent on the item's base type. For instance an uncommon or rare weapon that has a standard base will have no more than two affixes for it and legendary armors can have up to eight affixes available for it.

Each upgrade process will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level, and in which slot it is in. Weapons typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item is not able to get to its maximum level, the NPC will give the player the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process can take between one and two hours and cost the same amount of material. However, it has a lower rate of success.

Engineers employ a level to measure the height of the building to an established point, such as a benchmark. This process is known as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the level and backsight rod, then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method helps ensure that buildings are built to a high level of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is a crucial element of the game, and it can improve the damage, strength or other attributes.
