Roast

Starbucks purchases its beans in large quantities and roasts them in huge quantities. The roasting process lasts between 10 to 15 minutes, and the resulting beans are dark roasted. The dark roasted beans give an intense flavor and an intense body. The beans are ground, then shipped to stores and supermarkets in the form coffee grind. The beans are then cooled and are then separated from any stones or other impurities that have been ejected from the roaster. They are then inspected by hand and bagged to be sold. Some beans may have a dark spot, referred to as a quaker, these beans did not change colour, and thus taste burnt as is a normal occurrence and does not necessarily mean that the coffee is bad, but it can be a surprise in your cup of joe.

The beans are typically roast in small batches Sometimes as little as 20 pounds. These are known as "micro-lots". This is because each coffee is roasted according to specifications developed by a team of coffee masters at Starbucks headquarters. The team of coffee masters creates profiles that are used in all Starbucks(r), roasting facilities, around the globe. These profiles guarantee that every cup of coffee is consistent and has a certain degree of body, flavor and aroma.

Flavor

Starbucks purchases their beans directly from the farms where they were grown, in order to help improve the quality of their coffee and ensure an ethical source. They also plant an entire coffee plant for every pound of beans sold. The beans themselves are not identified by their origins to show where they originate from, though some of the blends are named - Veranda originates from Sumatra, Komodo Dragon from Indonesian, and Anniversary is a blend of african and central american beans. The beans have a unique flavor profile and produce smooth cups with delicately balanced sweetness and smoothness. Each sip reveals a symphony flavours that leaves an enjoyable taste on the palate.
