Early childhood caries (ECC) is highly prevalent with significant long-term consequences. Parents are primarily responsible for the oral health practices of their children. Parents' health beliefs, attitudes, and cultural factors influence oral health practices.
To explore and understand the perceptions and challenges faced by the parents of the children with ECC in performing routine oral hygiene practices for their children.
We conducted a qualitative description study with the parents of children with ECC. Data were collected through five focus groups using culturally appropriate, semi-structured, open-ended questions and probes. Focus groups were audiotaped, and field notes were taken, which were transcribed verbatim after each focus group session. Data were analyzed using content analyses.
A vast majority of the participants were aware of the significance of oral hygiene. However, they faced challenges in implementing proper home hygiene practices at home and lacked knowledge about the type of toothpaste and toothbrush to be used for their children.

To investigate the genetic and pathogenic variability of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae causing bacterial blight in rice on the remote Andaman Islands, India.
A total of 27 yellow-pigmented bacterial isolates representing rice fields of Andaman Islands incited blight on the susceptible-rice cultivar, C14-8. Phenotypic, pathogenic traits and 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed their identity as X. oryzae pv. oryzae. Virulence profiling indicated the prevalence of seven pathotypes of X. oryzae pv. oryzae on the Islands. Pathotypes-VI and -VII were highly virulent, whereas the pathotype-I was less virulent. Multilocus sequence typing based on nucleotide sequence polymorphism in nine housekeeping genes dnaK; fyuA; gyrB (two loci) rpoD; fusA; gapA; gltA and lepA clustered 27 isolates into 17 sequence types (STs) segregated into two clonal-complexes (CC). While CC-I comprised of isolates from Andaman Island, the CC-II is a mixture of isolates representing mainland India and Andaman Island. click here The data revealed trans-baled seven pathotypes distributed in two clonal complexes with strong indications for trans-boundary movement and consequent diversification of the bacterial pathogen. Highly virulent pathotypes of X. oryzae pv. oryzae that could overcome combinations of R-genes, xa13+Xa21 as well as xa5+xa13 were found prevalent in the Andaman Islands SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Genetic and virulence analysis of X. oryzae pv. oryzae in the Andaman Islands revealed introduction and host-mediated regional diversification and local adaptation of X oryzae pv. oryzae. The study calls for the need of multi-gene pyramiding for durable disease resistance and establishing stringent quarantine measures for safeguarding island agricultural practices in the future.
Adolescence is a transition period between childhood and adulthood during which an individual is more likely to engage in drug use. Peer education is one strategy suggested to discourage adolescents from engaging in negative lifestyle behaviours including drug use. This qualitative research was conducted to understand the perspectives of student peer educators to provide counselling to their peers around drug use.
Data were gathered at 10 senior high schools in five regions of Surabaya through semi-structured interviews (student peer educators n=20; teachers n=13) and focus group discussions (three FGDs with student peer educators n=25). The data were analysed through thematic analysis following procedures of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing.
The peer educators showed readiness (actual or potential) to provide counselling based on the external factor (confidence of ongoing support) and internal factors (motivate healthy lifestyle choices, ready with an open ear, self-development e reactivation of the peer educator program for high school students as a clear sign of support.

Pain is experienced by children with cancer throughout their cancer journey. Short-term, and into survivorship, pain has negative physical and psychological consequences. Changes in treatment location mean children with cancer spend more time at home. Little is known about pain experienced by children at home or how parents assess this pain.
A mixed-methods convergent parallel study was reported using STROBE.
Parents of children with cancer on active treatment were recruited from one tertiary cancer centre. Parental attitudes towards pain expression were assessed using surveys. Parents recorded their child's pain manifestation in pain diaries kept for one month. Interviews captured a deeper understanding of pain manifestation and how parents assess this pain at home. Integration occurred after each data collection method was analysed separately.

Many economically important crops fall victim to filamentous pathogens that produce small proteins called effectors to manipulate the host and aid infection/colonization. Understanding the effector repertoires of pathogens is facilitating an increased understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying virulence as well as guiding the development of disease control strategies. The purpose of this review is to give a chronological perspective on the evolution of the methodologies used in effector discovery from physical isolation and in silico predictions, to functional characterization of the effectors of filamentous plant pathogens and identification of their host targets.
The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) assesses the health-related quality of life of patients in cancer trials. There are currently no minimally important difference (MID) guidelines for the EORTC QLQ-C30 for colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aims to estimate MIDs for the EORTC QLQ-C30 scales in patients with advanced CRC treated with chemotherapy and enrolled in clinical trials.
The data were obtained from three published EORTC trials that treated CRC patients using chemotherapy. Potential anchors were selected from clinical variables based on their correlation with EORTC QLQ-C30 scales. Anchor-based MIDs for within-group change and between-group change were estimated via the mean change method and linear regression, respectively, and summarized using weighted correlation. Distribution-based MIDs were also examined.
Anchor-based MIDs were determined for deterioration in 8 of the 14 EORTC QLQ-C30 scales and in 9 scales for improvement, and varied by scale, direction of change and anchor. MIDs for improvement (deterioration) ranged from 6 to 18 (-11 to -5) points for within-group change and 5 to 15 (-10 to -4) for between-group change. Summarized MIDs (in absolute values) per scale mostly ranged from 5 to 10 points.
These findings have clinical relevance for the interpretation of treatment efficacy and the design of clinical trials by informing sample size requirements.

It has been hypothesized that the pathology of Parkinson's disease (PD) primarily affects presynaptic terminals and spreads trans-synaptically.
The main objective of this study was to assess the magnitude and anatomical extent of presynaptic terminal loss across the brain in early PD. A second objective was to compare loss of presynaptic terminals and cell bodies within the nigrostriatal tract.
A total of 30 patients with early PD and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy controls underwent positron emission tomography with
C-UCB-J, a ligand for the universal presynaptic terminal marker synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), and with the dopamine transporter ligand
F-FE-PE2I, as well as a detailed clinical assessment. Volumes of interest were delineated based on individual 3-dimensional T1 magnetic resonance imaging. BP
images were calculated.
Patients with PD showed significant loss of SV2A binding in the substantia nigra only. Loss of dopamine transporter binding in the PD group was much greater iurons. This loss of presynaptic boutons in the substantia nigra may reflect an axonal response to target deprivation or could possibly point to a trans-synaptic mode of propagation of the disease process. © 2020 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.In nanoparticle self-assembly, the current lack of strategy to modulate orientational order creates challenges in isolating large-area plastic crystals. Here, we achieve two orientationally distinct supercrystals using one nanoparticle shape, including plastic crystals and uniform metacrystals. Our approach integrates multi-faceted Archimedean polyhedra with molecular-level surface polymeric interactions to tune nanoparticle orientational order during self-assembly. Experiments and simulations show that coiled surface polymer chains limit interparticle interactions, creating various geometrical configurations among Archimedean polyhedra to form plastic crystals. In contrast, brush-like polymer chains enable molecular interdigitation between neighboring particles, favoring consistent particle configurations and result in uniform metacrystals. Our strategy enhances supercrystal diversity for polyhedra comprising multiple nondegenerate facets.
A diversion loop provides an alternative pathway for food intake from the bucco-gingival sulcus into the thoracic esophagus. Therefore, the bolus does not pass via pharynx where choking may occur in case of severe dysphagia. The data about outcomes and complications of the diversionary procedure are short and they refer to small cohort with brief follow-up.
This retrospective study analyzed data of 48 patients, mean aged 34.3 years (range, 22-58 years), undergoing the creation of a diversion loop in two stages. Patients complained of aspiration, choking, and dysphagia. Swallowing disorders were caused by corrosive injury, radiation damage, or neurologic injury, and were investigated through laryngoscopy and esophagography. A diversion loop was created in 45 cases with free jejunal flap and in 3 cases with radial forearm flap. Complications, functional outcomes, and revision rate were reviewed. The mean follow-up was 26.3 months.
We reported one failure (2%) and one partial necrosis of the free flaps. The most frequent complication was hematoma (8%).
