The number of female athletes taking part in elite and amateur sport is ever increasing. In contrast with male athletes, few studies have focused on cardiovascular adaptations to exercise in women, the effects of lifelong exercise on heart muscle and electrical tissue, the risk of exerciserelated sudden cardiac death and the management of cardiovascular disease. Women have a lower prevalence of large QRS complexes, repolarisation changes including inferior and lateral T-wave inversion, and cardiac dimensions exceeding predicted limits compared with men. The risk of exercise-related sudden cardiac death is significantly lower in women than men. Also, women who have engaged in lifelong exercise do not have a higher prevalence of AF, coronary artery calcification or myocardial fibrosis than their sedentary counterparts. Apart from providing an overview of the existing literature relating to cardiac adaptations, this review explores possible reasons for the sex differences and focuses on the management of cardiovascular disorders that affect female athletes.Recognition of suspected ischaemia with no obstructive coronary artery disease - termed INOCA - has increased over the past decades, with a key contributor being microvascular angina. Patients with microvascular angina are at higher risk for major adverse cardiac events including MI, stroke, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and death but to date there are no clear evidence-based guidelines for diagnosis and treatment. Recently, the Coronary Vasomotion Disorders International Study Group proposed standardised criteria for diagnosis of microvascular angina using invasive and non-invasive approaches. The management strategy for remains empirical, largely due to the lack of high-levelevidence- based guidelines and clinical trials. In this review, the authors will illustrate the updated approach to diagnosis of microvascular angina and address evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for patients with the condition.Cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the leading causes of death worldwide. In response to the growing population of cancer patients and survivors with CVD, the sub-specialty of cardio-oncology has been developed to better optimise their care. Palpitations are one of the most common presenting complaints seen in the emergency room or by the primary care provider or cardiologist. Palpitations are defined as a rapid pulsation or abnormally rapid or irregular beating of the heart and present a complex diagnostic entity with no evidence-based guidelines currently available. Palpitations are a frequent occurrence in people with cancer, and investigations and treatment are comparable to that in the general population although there are some nuances. Cancer patients are at a higher risk of arrhythmogenic causes of palpitations and non-arrhythmogenic causes of palpitations. This review will appraise the literature with regards to the development and management of palpitations in the cancer patient.
The adverse events (AEs) of rituximab (RTX) for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) are incompletely understood.

To collate information on the reported the AEs of RTX in NMOSD and assess the quality of evidence.

PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Wanfang Data, CBM, CNKI, VIP, clinicaltrials.gov, and so on were searched for studies with control groups as well as for case series that had assessed the RTX-associated AEs. The incidence of AEs and the comparison of AE risks among different therapies were pooled. The GRADE was developed for evidence quality.

A total of 3566 records were identified. Finally, 36 studies (4 RCTs, 6 crochet studies, 2 NRCTs, and 24 case series), including 1542 patients (1299 females and 139 males), were included for final analyses. Rates of patients with any AEs, any serious AEs (SAEs), infusion-related AEs, any infection, respiratory infection, urinary infection, and death were 28.57%, 5.66%, 27.01%, 17.36%, 4.76%, 4.76%, and 0.17%, respectively. The nd when present, the AEs were usually mild or moderate and could be well controlled. Given its efficacy and safety, RTX could be recommended as a first-line treatment for NMOSD.Ischaemia with non-obstructed coronary artery disease (INOCA) remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. An anatomical investigationbased approach to ischaemic heart disease fails to account for disorders of vasomotion. The main INOCA endotypes are microvascular angina, vasospastic angina, mixed (both) or non-cardiac symptoms. The interventional diagnostic procedure (IDP) enables differentiation between clinical endotypes, with linked stratified medical therapy leading to a reduced symptom burden and a better quality of life. Interventionists are therefore well placed to make a positive impact with more personalised care. Despite adjunctive tests of coronary function being supported by contemporary guidelines, IDP use in daily practice remains limited. More widespread adoption should be encouraged. This article reviews a stratified approach to INOCA, describes a streamlined approach to the IDP and highlights some practical and safety considerations.

Sixty male clean SD rats were selected as the research objects and randomly divided into 3 groups by random number method sham operation group (sham group), cecal ligation and perforation group (CLP group), nicorandil treatment group (nicorandil+CLP group). After the operation, the nicorandil group was pumped with nicorandil diluent 1 ml/h (2 mg/kg/h) with a micropump for 6 hours. Variation in colony social form commonly occurs in introduced populations of yellowjacket wasps (genus Vespula). In particular, invasive colonies may contain multiple queens (i.e., polygyne) and persist several years, while in the native range, the colonies are usually annual and harbor a single queen (i.e., monogyne). In this study, we used genome-wide loci obtained by double digest restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RADseq) to investigate the genetic structure and queen turnover in colonies of the western yellowjacket, Vespula pensylvanica, in their introduced range in Hawaii. Of the 27 colonies monitored over four months (October-January), 19 were polygyne and already contained multiple queens on the first day of sampling. Contrary to previous speculation, this finding suggests that polygyny often arises early in the annual colony cycle, before the production of new queens in the fall. Furthermore, polygyne colonies exhibited a prolonged average lifespan relative to those headed by a single queen. As a result, there is no clear window during which colony eradication efforts would be more effective than upon first discovery. The relatedness among nestmate queens was slightly above zero, indicating that these colonies are generally composed of nonrelatives. The queen turnover within each colony was low, and we detected some full-sibling workers sampled up to four months apart. Finally, we did not detect any population structure among colonies, suggesting that queens disperse up to several kilometers. Taken together, our results provide the first insights into the requeening dynamics in this invasive and incipiently polygyne population and illuminate the early establishment of multiple long-lasting queens in these damaging colonies.The spatial structure of genomic and phenotypic variation across populations reflects historical and demographic processes as well as evolution via natural selection. To reach this goal, a highly integrative approach was implemented, combining transcriptome, genetic and microbiota analyses with the evaluation of biochemical and histological profiles of the edible Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, as it was transplanted for 6 months from the polluted area of Porto Marghera (PM) to the clean area of Chioggia (Venice lagoon, Italy). One month post-transplantation, PM clams showed several modifications to its resident microbiota, including an overrepresentation of the opportunistic pathogen Arcobacter spp. This may be related to the upregulation of several immune genes in the PM clams, potentially representing a host response to the increased abundance of deleterious bacteria.
