Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item are enhanced by upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats on your weapon and armor. This can be achieved by a variety of methods, including by using upgrade components or increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. A lot of items can be reforged in order to increase their stats.
You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available all over all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The primary method to upgrade equipment is by making use of upgrade components which are the items that can be slotted into equipment. Most equipment comes with upgrade slots, and many require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses while others give general bonuses.
There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, can be put on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades for specific equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They offer a variety of bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right side of the screen. It will show the expected stats following the upgrade. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.
The upper-right corner shows the amount of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced using many different ways, such as purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them to other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded with a prefix, such as a rune, or an insignia, and others can be enhanced with a suffix. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the name of the item like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They animate to capture the viewer's attention and spur interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, which makes them more effective in conveying messages across language barriers. Glyphs can also increase the retention of the message by triggering a familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph increases the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is shown on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the actual amount by the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item you're enchanting it to.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items cannot be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
If you want to remove the glyph from an item you must salvage it with an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item on which the glyph is placed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be recovered using the glyph shards.
When you take away an item after putting a glyph on it, the shards from the glyph will disappear. You can also put an inscription on your equipment to make it more valuable. Deferred Damage, for example can store damage, and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This can be helpful for those who take many hits from their enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes that are placed on weapons and other equipment. They can be obtained from various sources, such as mystery boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token gives the player a brand new random affix, which is typically better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a good way to reroll weapon stats and can be upgraded to increase damage or additional perks.
Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for upgrade options, however they are still able to be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is determined based on the item's rarity as well as its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable for recycling than lower-leveled ones.
Players can also make use of Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits to upgrade units. Rerolls are based on a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it is higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be repeatedly rolled up to three times.
Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but players must be aware that it will reduce the overall ilvl the weapon due to the number of rerolls required to raise the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on Diadems and Rings, because they are the only options for raising ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive and it's more fair to let people pay for it in the form of money or a food item that allows players to alter their build without wasting time and energy. The developers aren't planning to implement paid rerolls at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning add an option to change the race in the near future.
Leveling
There are many ways to level up an upgrade for an item. The most effective method to level up an upgrade to an item is to increase the upgrade amount. This boosts the value of upgrading the stat. The second option is to increase the impact of the upgrade, which can increase damage or healing for the stat. In addition you have the option to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. After this the new item will keep its iLevel however it will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type.
When upgrading items, it is important to remember that upgrades are not guaranteed. In the majority of cases, a better roll is based on the glyphs. However there are item upgrades where a higher or more special roll can occur. In addition, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type and if you upgrade a rare or unusual item to an extraordinary type, it could achieve a higher iLevel.
Upgrades can be costly, especially if you are upgrading equipment from the standard track to legendary. The price will be based on the item's base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it comes with. In addition, some upgrade tracks require crests to reach the next upgrade level.
If you're fortunate the upgraded item will reach the maximum level on its upgrade track and gain an additional benefit. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level, however. Generally speaking, the upgrade effect is increased by a value of +3.
Depending on the item's level of base and upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will change as well. For example the weapon that has been upgraded from a rare or unique item to an extraordinary item will be able to get the Enhanced Defense of the new base item type.
