Endometrial cancer (EC) is most frequently seen in older and postmenopausal women.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the rate of recurrence and survival and clinical, pathological, surgical, and treatment factors affecting recurrence and survival in older patients with EC.

Three hundred and six (21.7%) patients aged ≥ 65 out of a total of 1413 patients diagnosed with and treated for epithelial EC at the Division of Gynecologic Oncology between January 1993 and May 2013 were evaluated retrospectively. All patients were staged according to FIGO 2009 staging system. Progression-free survival (PFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and overall survival (OS) were determined. Independent prognostic factors affecting recurrence and survival were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analysis.

The median age of the patients was 68 (65-92) years. Eighty-nine patients (29.1%) were diagnosed with stage III-IV disease. Tumor type was endometrioid in 226 (73.9%) patients, and 101 (33%) patients were diagnosed with FIGO grade 1 endometrioid endometrial cancer. One hundred fifty-three patients received adjuvant therapy after surgery. Five-year PFS, 5-year CSS, and 5-year OS were 73%, 85%, and 83%, respectively. Only the 2009 FIGO stage was independently associated with PFS (OR = 3.495, 95% CI 1.592-7.675; p = 0.002) and CSS (OR = 6.135, 95%CI 1.269-31.417; p = 0.024).

In conclusion, 2009 FIGO stage was found to be the only independent prognostic factor associated with recurrence and death in older patients with endometrial cancer.
In conclusion, 2009 FIGO stage was found to be the only independent prognostic factor associated with recurrence and death in older patients with endometrial cancer. This experiment was to study the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on growth, intestinal barrier, oxidative status, and mineral deposition. In total, 256 one-day-old chicks were randomly allotted to 4 dietary groups and fed with basal diet plus 80 mg/kg ZnSO4 (ZnSO4 group) or plus 40, 80, and 160 mg/kg ZnO-NPs, respectively, for 21 days. Compared with the ZnSO4 group, dietary 40, 80, and 160 mg/kg ZnO-NPs did not alter growth (average daily gain, body weight, and gain to feed ratio), and serum activities of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (P > 0.05). However, dietary 80 and 160 mg/kg ZnO-NPs linearly decreased serum D-lactate content and diamine oxidase activity (P  0.05). Therefore, results suggested that ZnO-NPs could be an additive to enhance the intestinal barrier and antioxidant capacity of broiler chicks, whereas the inclusion of 80 mg/kg would be more efficient.Aging and poor nutrition are independent risk factors for the development of chronic disease. When young animals are given diets high in fat or sugar, they exhibit hallmarks of aging like mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation, and also develop a greater risk for age-related disease. The same mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation that progress with aging may also further predispose older individuals to dietary insults by fat and sugar. The purpose of this work is to review the most recent studies that address the impact of fat and sugar consumption on hallmarks of aging (mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation). Findings from these studies show that obesogenic, high-fat diets can exacerbate age-related disease and hallmarks of aging in young animals, but high-fat diets that are non-obesogenic may play a beneficial role in old age. In contrast, high-sugar diets do not require an obesogenic effect to induce mitochondrial dysfunction or inflammation in young rodents. Currently, there is a lack of expxperimental studies are needed to clarify whether aged individuals are more susceptible to its effects.
The impact of serum uric acid (SUA) on development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) remains controversial, especially the impact of hypouricemia (HUA) on CVD. Ibrutinib Target Protein Ligan chemical The aim of our study was to investigate the influence of low-level SUA on cardiovascular (CV) events in PD patients.

A retrospective cohort study was conducted.728 PD patients from February 1, 2010 to May 31, 2019 were enrolled. All demographic and laboratory data were collected at baseline and 6months after PD treatment. The study cohort was divided into four groups according to SUA level (μmol/L) after 6months of PD Group1 (< 360), Group2 (360-420), Group3 (420-480), Group4 (≥ 480). The clinical characteristics of each group were analyzed. With Group2 as reference, logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the correlation between SUA levels and risk of CV events in patients undergoing PD. Use Kaplan-Meier method to generate CV events risk graph.

728 patients were enrolled in this 360μmol/L and above 420μmol/L were found to be significant risk factors for developing CV events in patients undergoing long-term PD.
Our study suggested that patients with SUA level less than 360 μmol/L also exhibited the higher risk for developing CV events, an U-shaped association between SUA level and risk of CV events in patients undergoing PD. Both SUA levels below 360 μmol/L and above 420 μmol/L were found to be significant risk factors for developing CV events in patients undergoing long-term PD.A 62-year-old man was diagnosed with a giant coronary artery aneurysm associated with immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease. He had previously undergone two thoracic operations with sternotomies and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair for IgG4-related aortopathy. We opted for hybrid open and endovascular repair to reduce risk and avoid complications of a resternotomy and extracorporeal circulation. This first successful case of hybrid repair of a giant coronary artery aneurysm shows that the procedure is safe and feasible in patients with IgG4-related vasculopathy. It is critical to carefully monitor these patients for the occurrence of new IgG4-related aneurysms and other manifestations of vasculopathy.Graphene oxide is well known for its adsorption properties with aromatic compounds. In this study, graphene oxide and eco-friendly ternary CuInS2/ZnS QDs were used to prepare graphene oxide-qunatum dots (GO-QDs) nanocomposite via in-situ method. The composite was characterized using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The effect of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on the PL properties of the nanocomposite was investigated. The results showed that the addition of PAHs increased the PL intensity of the nanocomposite. This "turn-on" fluorescence approach can be used for the successful detection of PAHs in aqueous media.
