Aldosterone-to-renin concentration ratio tests and computerized tomography (CT) scanning of the adrenal and renal arteries were routinely conducted to screen for PA and RAS. Color Doppler flow and/or magnetic resonance imaging were used as substitute testing of patients for whom CT was contraindicated. Standard percutaneous renal arteriography (PTRA) was considered for patients with RAS exceeding 70% based on non-invasive tests and for those without PTRA contraindications. The patients with PA with RAS were further divided into severe (RAS>70%) and moderate (50% less then RAS less then 70%) RAS groups. The prevalence of RAS among PA patients was 6.9% (71/1,033), including 3.2% (33/1,033) with severe RAS. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of differentiating the atrial fibrillation (AF) subtype and preliminary explore the prognostic value of AF recurrence after ablation using radiomics models based on epicardial adipose tissue around the left atrium (LA-EAT) of cardiac CT images.

The cardiac CT images of 314 patients were collected wherein 251 and 63 cases were randomly enrolled in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Mutual information and the random forest algorithm were used to screen for the radiomic features and construct the radiomics signature. Radiomics models reflecting the features of LA-EAT were built to differentiate the AF subtype, and the multivariable logistic regression model was adopted to integrate the radiomics signature and volume information. The same methodology and algorithm were applied to the radiomic features to explore the ability for predicting AF recurrence.

The predictive model constructed by integrating the radiomic features and volume information using a radiomics nomogram showed the best ability in differentiating AF subtype in the training [AUC, 0.915; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.880-0.951] and validation (AUC, 0.853; 95% CI, 0.755-0.951) cohorts. The radiomic features have shown convincible predictive ability of AF recurrence in both training (AUC, 0.808; 95% CI, 0.750-0.866) and validation (AUC, 0.793; 95% CI, 0.654-0.931) cohorts.

The LA-EAT radiomic signatures are a promising tool in the differentiation of AF subtype and prediction of AF recurrence, which may have clinical implications in the early diagnosis of AF subtype and disease management.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD), based on sudden cardiac ejection cessation, is an unexpected death. Primary cardiomyopathies, including dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), are one of main causes of SCD. The DCM is characterized by a cardiac dilatation and a reduced systolic function with a prevalence of 1/250 in adults. The DCM has been reported with more than 60 disease-causing genes, and
variants are one of the most common and well-known causes of DCM.

We identified a 29-year-old female who died of SCD. We performed a whole-exome sequencing (WES) to detect her genetic etiology and used minigene modeling and immunohistochemistry staining to verify the pathogenicity.

We determined that the woman died of SCD caused by DCM due to an identified novel synonymous variant of
(NM_000256.3 c.24A>C, p.P8P) in the deceased. The variant can result in abnormal splicing, which was confirmed by minigene models and immunohistochemistry staining.

The proposed Multitasking-SMS method was validated in a standardized phantom and 10 healthy volunteers, comparing T1 and T2 measurements and scan-rescan repeatability against corresponding reference methods in one layer of phantom vials and in 16 American Heart Association (AHA) myocardial segments. In phantom, Multitasking-SMS T1/T2 measurements showed substantial correlation (R 2 > 0.996) and excellent agreement [intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) ≥ 0.999)] with reference measurements. In healthy volunteers, Multitasking-SMS T1/T2 maps reported similar myocardial T1/T2 values (1,215 ± 91.0/41.5 ± 6.3 ms) to the reference myocardial T1/T2 values (1,239 ± 67.5/42.7 ± 4.1 ms), with P = 0.347 and P = 0.296, respectively. Bland-Altman analyses also demonstrated good in vivo repeatability in both the multitasking and references, with segment-wise coefficients of variation of 4.7% (multitasking T1), 8.9% (multitasking T2), 2.4% [modified look-locker inversion recovery (MOLLI)], and 4.6% (T2-prep FLASH), respectively. To investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in DbCM, we performed a quantitative proteomic profiling analysis in the left ventricle (LV) of type 2 diabetic mice.
