Long segmental tracheal repair is challenging in regenerative medicine due to low adhesion of stem cells to tracheal scaffolds. Optimal transplantation of stem cells for tracheal defects has not been established. We evaluated the role of hyaluronic acid (HA) coating of tracheal scaffolds in mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) adhesion and tracheal regeneration in a rabbit model.
A three-dimensionally printed tubular tracheal prosthesis was incubated with dopa-HA-fluorescein isothiocyanate in phosphate-buffered saline for 2days. MSCs were incubated with an HA-coated scaffold, and their adhesion was evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. HA coated scaffolds with or without MSC seeding were transplanted at the circumferential tracheal defect in rabbits, and survival, rigid bronchoscopy, radiologic findings, and histologic findings were compared between the two groups.
HA-coated scaffolds showed better MSC adhesion than non-coated scaffolds. The HA-coated scaffolds with MSC group showed a wider airway and greater mucosal regeneration compared to the HA-coated scaffolds without MSC group.
HA coating of scaffolds can promote MSC adhesion and tracheal regeneration.

Thyroid dysfunction has been observed in patients with COVID-19, and endocrinologists are requested to understand this clinical issue. Pandemic-related restrictions and reorganization of healthcare services may affect thyroid disease management.
To analyze and discuss the relationship between COVID-19 and thyroid diseases from several perspectives. PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Scopus, ClinicalTrial.gov were searched for this purpose by using free text words and medical subject headings as follows "sars cov 2", "covid 19", "subacute thyroiditis", "atypical thyroiditis", "chronic thyroiditis", "hashimoto's thyroiditis", "graves' disease", "thyroid nodule", "differentiated thyroid cancer", "medullary thyroid cancer", "methimazole", "levothyroxine", "multikinase inhibitor", "remdesivir", "tocilizumab". Data were collected, analyzed, and discussed to answer the following clinical questions "What evidence suggests that COVID-19 may induce detrimental consequences on thyroid function?"; "Could previous or conon of COVID-19. Adequate management of patients with thyroid diseases remains essential during the pandemic, but it could be compromised because of healthcare service restrictions. Endocrine care centers should continuously recognize and classify priority cases for in-person visits and therapeutic procedures. Telemedicine may be a useful tool for managing patients not requiring in-person visits.Diclofenac (DCF) belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which is one of the most consumed by population and detected in raw sewage. Several studies have reported variable removal rates by biodegradation of diclofenac in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This study deals with the evaluation of the biodegradation of DCF by a bacterial consortium (obtained from pure cultures of Enterobacter hormaechei D15 and Enterobacter cloacea D16), which were isolated from household compost and Algerian WWTP, respectively, as sole carbon source and by co-metabolism, using glucose as carbon source. A 98% removal rate of DCF was observed when it is used as the sole carbon source, whilst only 44% of DCF was removed in co-metabolic conditions. Two metabolites were identified using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray injection tandem mass spectrometry analysis (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS); one of them was identified as 4'-hydroxy-DCF, and the second metabolite was suspected to be a nitro derivative of DCF, according to comparison with the literature. NSC 2382 chemical structure Biodegradation of DCF by this bacterial consortium generates relatively safe final by-products.To investigate factors associated with quality of life (QoL) and disaster-related psychiatric disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive episode (MDE), in the survivors of a gas explosion in Taiwan 5 years after the event. A community-based cross-sectional study of residents from an area that experienced a gas explosion was conducted 5 years after the event. The Short Form 12v2 (SF-12v2) was used to screen 2511 participants. The Disaster-Related Psychological Screening Test (DRPST) was used to assess probable MDE and PTSD. A total of 2511 participants, including 604 males and 1907 females, completed the QoL survey. The average age was 56.02 ± 16.78 years, and most participants were in the ≧65 age group (39.7%). The males had better QoL in the physical dimensions. Lifestyle was significantly positively associated with QoL. A total of 894 participants completed the DRPST, which showed some individuals with probable MDE (n = 93, 10.4%), probable PTSD (n = 22, 2.5%), or probable MDE and PTSD (n = 49, 5.5%); most people had no MDE or PTSD (n = 730, 81.7%). Those in the probable PTSD or MDE groups were significantly more likely to be female or to be experiencing stressors (p less then 0.001). The participants continued to be affected by the disaster based on their QoL, even 5 years later. Females had a higher risk of probable psychiatric disorders and poorer QoL in the physical dimensions. Long-term follow-up, interventions and investigations after a disaster are needed.Ribosome profiling, or Ribo-seq, provides precise information about the position of actively translating ribosomes. It can be used to identify open reading frames (ORFs) that are translated in a given sample. The RiboTaper pipeline, and the ORFquant R package, leverages the periodic distribution of such ribosomes along the ORF to perform a statistically robust test for translation which is insensitive to aperiodic noise and provides a statistically robust measure of translation. In addition to accounting for complex loci with overlapping ORFs, ORFquant is also able to use Ribo-seq as a tool for distinguishing actively translated transcripts from non-translated ones, within a given gene locus.
