To compare the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and alteration of heart rate variability (HRV) after pulmonary lobectomy through video assisted thoracic surgery or thoracotomy, and to explore the role of autonomic nerves in the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation after pulmonary lobectomy.

In a single institution, 224 patients (age > 60) with normal sinus rhythm were enrolled in the study. Experienced surgeons and anesthetists carried out operation and anesthesia according to the same procedure. The hearts were monitored using Holter for more than 96 h. Any new-onset AF was recorded and HRV was analyzed at different time intervals.

One hundred twelve patients undergoing video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and 112 patients undergoing thoracotomy (THOR) were matched for age and gender. Atrial fibrillation occurred in 39 patients, with a similar incidence between the two groups (VATS 19/112, 16.9% and THOR 20/112, 17.9%, P= 0.82). The post-operational heart variability at different time intervals was comparable between the two groups.

Pulmonary lobectomy through video assisted thoracic surgery does not reduce the postoperative atrial fibrillation. selleck products Autonomic nerve mechanism may be involved in the pathogenesis of postoperative atrial fibrillation.

Mud crab, Scylla paramamosain, a euryhaline crustacean species, mainly inhabits the Indo-Western Pacific region. Wild mud crab spawn in high-salt condition and the salinity reduced with the growth of the hatching larvae. When the larvae grow up to megalopa, they migrate back to estuaries and coasts in virtue of the flood tide, settle and recruit adult habitats and metamorphose into the crablet stage. Adult crab can even survive in a wide salinity of 0-35 ppt. To investigate the mRNA profile after salinity stress, S. paramamosain megalopa were exposed to different salinity seawater (low, 14 ppt; control, 25 ppt; high, 39 ppt).

Firstly, from the expression profiles of Na+/K+/2Cl- cotransporter, chloride channel protein 2, and ABC transporter, it turned out that the 24 h might be the most influenced duration in the short-term stress. We collected megalopa under different salinity for 24 h and then submitted to mRNA profiling. Totally, 57.87 Gb Clean Data were obtained. The comparative genomic analysis detectmamosain larvae and further boost the understanding of the potential molecular mechanisms of salinity stress adaptation for crustacean species.
This study represents the first genome-wide transcriptome analysis of S. paramamosain megalopa for studying its stress adaption mechanisms under different salinity. The results reveal numbers of genes modified by salinity stress and some important pathways, which will provide valuable resources for discovering the molecular basis of salinity stress adaptation of S. paramamosain larvae and further boost the understanding of the potential molecular mechanisms of salinity stress adaptation for crustacean species.
Calcium release-activated calcium (CRAC) channel inhibitors stabilize the pulmonary endothelium and block proinflammatory cytokine release, potentially mitigating respiratory complications observed in patients with COVID-19. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of Auxora, a novel, intravenously administered CRAC channel inhibitor, in adults with severe or critical COVID-19 pneumonia.

A randomized, controlled, open-label study of Auxora was conducted in adults with severe or critical COVID-19 pneumonia. Patients were randomized 21 to receive three doses of once-daily Auxora versus standard of care (SOC) alone. The primary objective was to assess the safety and tolerability of Auxora. Following FDA guidance, study enrollment was halted early to allow for transition to a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled study.

In total, 17 patients with severe and three with critical COVID-19 pneumonia were randomized to Auxora and nine with severe and one with critical COVID-19 pneumonia to SOC. VID-19 pneumonia. These results, however, are limited by the open-label study design and small patient population resulting from the early cessation of enrollment in response to regulatory guidance. The impact of Auxora on respiratory complications in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia will be further assessed in a planned randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled study.

This study was undertaken in an attempt to characterize the frequency and clinical features of lung nodules in IgG4 related disease (IgG4-RD) patients as an insight for help with the diagnosis of lung nodules.

A retrospective study was carried out in West China Hospital, Sichuan University from January 2012 to December 2018, 89 patients with definite IgG4-RD were enrolled.

Fifty of 89 patients with definite IgG4-RD had radiologically confirmed lung nodules, 6 of whom were diagnosed with definite IgG4 related lung disease. Lung nodules detected in more than 40 patients were small and solid, always with regular margins. Multiple (41/50) and bilateral (34/50) distributions was also a major characteristic of these lung nodules. Lobulation and speculation were simultaneously detected in 3 patients, including 2 patients combined with pleural indentation. Calcification of nodules was detected in only one patient. Thirty-seven patients also had additional radiological abnormalities of lungs, including ground-glass opacity (21/50), thickening of pleura (9/50), thickening of interlobular septa (4/50), thickening of bronchial wall (3/50), pleural effusion (4/50), mass (3/50), interstitial changes (5/50), and mediastinal or hilar lymphadenopathy (32/50).
