Distal femur fractures are complex injuries with a high rate of fracture healing problems. Since the widespread of computed tomographic imaging in the diagnosis of distal femur fractures, many fracture characteristics have been discovered. This study aimed to depict the location and frequency of distal femur fracture lines and further analyze the morphological characteristics using the 3-dimensional computed tomography (CT) mapping technique, thus providing more information to solve this challenging clinical problem.
In total, 217 distal femur fractures in 216 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Fracture fragments on CT were digitally reconstructed and virtually reduced to match a template model. The contour of every fracture fragment was then marked with smooth curves, and the overlap of all fracture lines allowed for the creation of 3-dimensional fracture maps and heat maps. Fracture characteristics were summarized based on these maps.
This study included 114 left knee injuries, 101 right knee injomes.
The intercondylar fracture patterns in AO/OTA type B and type C fractures were similar, while the supracondylar characteristics in AO/OTA type A and type C were different. The findings in this study can help orthopaedic surgeons better understand the fracture morphology on the basis of AO/OTA classification. Further studies are needed to establish a standard biomechanical fracture model and new fixation strategy for better clinical outcomes.
The pathogenesis of Crohn's disease (CD) is unknown; however, angiogenesis is known to play an important role in the disease. The present research suggests that microRNA-21 (miR-21) may play a positive regulatory role in disordered angiogenesis in CD.
C57 wild-type mice were divided into 6 groups. On day 0, all mice in the 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) group were given an enema at the concentration of TNBS 100 mg/kg mouse body weight (solvent 50% alcohol). In the control group, the enema was performed with 50% alcohol. On day 0, 2, 4, and 6, the mice of the agomir-21 + TNBS group and the agomir control + TNBS group were injected with 200 µL, 5 nmol agomir-21 or agomir control [dissolved in ribonuclease (RNase)-free water] by tail vein injection, while the antagomir-21 + TNBS group and the antagomir control + TNBS group were injected with 200 µL, 20 nmol antagomir-21 or antagomir control (dissolved in RNase-free water). The body weight and disease activity index (DAI) score were recorded daily.vely antagonized this effect.
miR-21 can promote the progression of colitis in mice induced by TNBS and aggravate the disordered angiogenesis by regulating the PTEN/PI3K/AKT axis. Intravenous injection of miR-21 antagonists can effectively relieve the symptoms of colitis and inhibit colonic angiogenesis.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is often accompanied by changes in lipid metabolism. This study aimed to examine the changes in serum phospholipids (PLs) that may be useful for early disease stratification and as potential therapeutic targets in patients with CAP.
Serum samples from 58 patients hospitalized with CAP and 11 control samples were collected during admission between January 2017 and October 2018. Targeted lipidomic analysis was used to determine the concentrations of phosphatidylcholine (PC), lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE). The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database was used to evaluate the gene expression levels of key enzymes in the Lands cycle, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used for further verification.
A significant decrease in LPC levels and an increase in PE levels, PC/LPC and PE/LPE ratios were observed in patients with CAP (P<0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) of PE sepholipid metabolism will improve our understanding and treatment of CAP.
The prognosis for patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related subacute liver failure is poor. Thus, accurate prognostication would facilitate management and optimize liver allocation. This study aimed to explore the risk factors for HBV-related subacute liver failure and establish a risk model.
A total of 192 patients with HBV-related subacute liver failure treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University during January 2018 to January 2019 were selected and divided into the survival group (n=113) and the death group (n=79) based on their status within 6 months. Patient information were collected, including age, sex, body mass index, complications, hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), hepatic encephalopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, infections, ascites, HBV-DNA, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD), liver function tests, international normalized ratio (INR), serum creatinine and total cholesterol. Binary logistic regression was employed to identify risk factors for risk model est01) and sensitivity (91.1%
58.2%, P<0.001) of the established risk model were significantly higher than those of the MELD score.
Patient age, hepatic encephalopathy, infection, ascites, MELD score, INR, and total cholesterol level were independent prognostic factors. The prognostic model established based on these risk factors may have favorable predictive value.

Researches of the efficacy and safety of metformin on long-term pregnancy outcomes remains conflicted. We performed an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to systematically investigate the effect of metformin treatment on pregnancy outcome, metabolic profile, and sex hormone characteristics in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their offspring.
The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to July 10, 2021 with the keywords "metformin", "PCOS", and "pregnancy". Randomized controlled studies reported pregnant related outcomes after metformin intervention among PCOS women were included, while abstracts and reviews were excluded. Two authors independently identified trials, extracted data and assessed risk of bias with Cochrane Reviewer's Handbook 5.0. Random effects models were used to evaluate the pooled risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) of pregnancy outcome, metabolic profile, and sex hormone levels.
Eighteen studies were includdifficult to draw a definite conclusion, our study showed that metformin treatment during pregnancy can reduce the risk of pregnancy complications but may have impacts on increasing SHBG levels and long-term BMI in offspring.
Although the relative low quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and limited results made it difficult to draw a definite conclusion, our study showed that metformin treatment during pregnancy can reduce the risk of pregnancy complications but may have impacts on increasing SHBG levels and long-term BMI in offspring.
Orientation of the lumbar facet joints (FJs) in the transverse plane is associated with degenerative lumbar spine disease. However, there is a lack of measurements of the sagittal and coronal facet angles, and the effect of 3D facet angles on joint motion in the sitting position is unknown. The present study was to investigate the 3D orientation and
motion characteristics of the FJ in the sitting position.
Dual fluoroscopic imaging system and computed tomography (CT) were used to determine the 3D orientation and kinematic characteristics of FJs. L3-S1 segments were studied in 10 asymptomatic participants (5 male and 5 female, age 25-35 years, body mass index 22.4±1.8). Angles of the facet in the sagittal, coronal, and axial planes, and the range of motion of the FJs in seated flexion and extension movements were measured.
The difference in sagittal facet angles between the 2 sides of the L3-S1 facet joints was not significant. The superior coronal facet angle on the left side of L5 was significantly on lumbar spine mobility.
Quantification of the 3D orientation of the lumbar spine FJs provides new perspectives to study the kinematics of the lumbar spine and the etiology of lumbar degenerative diseases. In sitting flexion and extension movements, there is a significant difference in the left-right lateral mobility of the FJs of the L5-S1 segments. With the exception of the transverse facet angle of the lumbar spine FJs, the sagittal and coronal facet angles also have an effect on lumbar spine mobility.
Little is known about the anatomical changes in lumbosacral vertebrae and their correlation with facet joint-derived low back pain in patients with hip osteoarthritis (HOA) after total hip arthroplasty.
Seventy-four HOA patients with low back pain who underwent initial total hip arthroplasty were included. Their Harris Hip Score (HHS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and anatomical parameters were analyzed. Paired
tests were used to compare the various index scores before and after surgery, and independent sample
tests were used for the between-group comparisons.
The HHS and ODI significantly changed at 3 and 6 months postoperatively [HHS preoperative (43.56±4.34)
3 months (80.34±5.23)
6 months (84.37±4.78); ODI preoperative (36.26±5.34)
3 months (26.44±3.23)
6 months (19.34±3.27); P<0.001]. At the first 3 months after surgery, the VAS low back pain score decreased from 5.24±1.21 to 2.89±1.03 (P<0.001), and the VAS hip pain score decreased from 7.45±1.3he anatomical changes in lumbosacral vertebrae.
This meta-analysis was performed using Stata (15.0), and sought to systematically evaluate the domestic application value of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GNRH-a) after cervical cancer, and explore its protective effect on the ovaries during chemotherapy. In many studies, the effectiveness and safety of GNRH-a are not consistent, and there is great controversy. Therefore, it is very important to systematically evaluate the protection and safety of GNRH-a after cervical cancer surgery.
PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to retrieve articles on domestic trials examining the use of GNRH-a treatment in cervical cancer patients, published from January 2014 to January 2021, which were reviewed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study. The meta-analysis of the included study data was conducted using Stata 15.0.
In total, 10 articles were included in the meta-analysis, comprising 579 ovarian-reserved cervical cancer subjects, all of whom received 4-6 standardized courses of PC (Paclitaxel + Cisplatin) chemotherapy. The following statistically significant differences were found bovine follicle stimulating hormone [odds ratio (OR) =1.82, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.38-2.38; P<0.0001], bovine estrogen 2 (OR =2.39, 95% CI 1.69-3.37; P<0.00001), anti-Mullerian hormone (OR =2.39, 95% CI 1.71-3.34; P<0.00001), and bovine antral follicle count (OR =2.11, 95% CI 1.49-2.99; P<0.0001); but there is no statistically significant difference incidence of coincidences (OR =0.80, 95% CI 0.49-1.31; P=0.38).
The use of GNRH-a in cervical cancer patients receiving the PC chemotherapy regimen plays a significant role in protecting ovarian function.
