In the scenario where the original purchaser of the traveller’s cheque dies, the reimbursement can be made to the legal representative or the estate account. However, traveller’s cheques cannot be deposited directly to the estate account. The cheques first need to be sent to American Express along with proper documentation. Copies of the cheques and correspondence should be kept by you. A refund will be issued as soon as cheques and documentation are processed by American Express. The refund cheque issued by American Express will be made payable to the Estate and must be deposited to the Estate account.
You should include:
• the original travellers cheques/gift cheques (marked void)
• the applicable redemption document(s). Do not send in original documents.
• a cover letter that includes beneficiary's name, mailing address, contact phone number and requester's relationship to the deceased and cheque numbers.
The entire package should be mailed to:

The applicable redemption documents will include:
· The copy of the will naming you as the beneficiary. A will is not a binding document until validated by the Probate Court.
· Copy of the death certificate
· The beneficiary should present a notarized letter to the bank along with the will. The notarized letter should include the following:
- the requester's relationship to the deceased
- a statement on the letter that the requester is the only person entitled to the fund
