One hundred seventy-eight postlingually deafened adults with bilateral SNHL and a preoperative low-frequency pure-tone average (LFPTA) 80 dB HL or better at 125, 250, and 500 Hz in the ear to be implanted.

To compare the outcomes of medial and lateral underlay endoscopic type I tympanoplasty for anterior tympanic membrane (TM) perforations.

The physical examinations, tympanograms, and audiograms were unremarkable. The Weber test consisted of 512, 1024, and 2048 Hz tuning forks that were applied on the central incisors and frontal midline, and lateralization patterns were compared with the extent of paranasal pathology.

There were 44 participants (MF=2618), age 19 to 63 years (average 51).
