In the flooded system, Zhuliangyou 189 showed higher bulk soil Fe(II) content than Changxianggu. In the ridge-furrow system, ridges decreased the Fe(II)-oxidizing ability of root and bulk soil bacteria, thereby decreasing Fe plaque amount and increasing organ Cd content of rice. In both monoculture and intercropping systems, rice cultivars planted on ridges showed higher Cd bioavailability and lower bulk boil Fe(II) content than those planted in furrows.Agricultural soils are inherently disturbed systems where organic matter additions are considered to enhance microbial community structure and resilience. High-throughput sequencing of community was applied to soils receiving annual applications of an alkaline stabilized biosolid (ATB), at four increasing rates over 10 years, as an environmental stressor in contrast to a one-time application of ATB ten years prior. Bacterial community structure was more greatly influenced by annual ATB applications relative to fungi and eukaryotes. Specifically, higher relative abundances of Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Chloroflexi were measured in annual ATB rates relative to the single ATB rates and the control. High rates of annual ATB applications resulted in lower bacterial alpha-diversity, as well as fungal and eukaryotic Shannon diversity, but single ATB or lower rates of ATB applied annually showed increased alpha -diversity relative to the control. Soil microbiome responses to annual ATB and singer annual additions over a decade.A new NiAlFe layered double hydroxide/polydopamine/polyvinylidene fluoride (NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF) membrane was fabricated by in-situ growth of LDH on the PDA modified PVDF membrane. The as-prepared membrane possesses a nano/microscale rough structural surface and displays the superior wettability of superhydrophilicity in air and underwater superoleophobicity. Combining the favourable features of superwettability and hierarchical rough structure, the NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane could effectively separate a series of oil-in-water emulsions with high efficiency (>99%) and high permeation flux (925-1913 L m-2 h-1 bar-1). Besides, owing to the light harvest ability of NiAlFe LDH, the relevant membrane also can be applied as a photocatalysis paper for the light-driven treatment of antibiotic residue in aqueous solution. In which, NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane can effectively degrade typical antibiotic tetracycline within 20 min under UV light irradiation, exhibiting excellent photocatalytic activity. In addition, cyclic experiments demonstrate that NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane has excellent stability and reusability both in oil-in-water emulsion separation and photocatalytic reaction. In general, the findings of this research demonstrate that photo-response LDH modified membranes have potential multiple applications in wastewater treatment.Water safety is a world-wide concern and several efforts have been made in order to ensure the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Water quality monitoring must be performed with an integrated approach using biomonitor organisms allied to water parameters. Nonetheless, very few studies have focused on biomarker responses in neotropical fish, especially in the freshwater ecosystem of Brazilian Cerrado savanna. In present study, the active biomonitoring of the João Leite river (central Brazilian Cerrado river) was performed through the evaluation of biomarker responses in caged Astyanax lacustris in combination with land use classification and analysis of water parameters. read more Caged fish were exposed for seven days at four sites along the river and two control groups were kept in a tank under controlled conditions. Results showed that pasture was the predominant land use in the João Leite river basin (54.07%), followed by natural vegetation (34.92%) and other kind of land use (11.01%). Water analyses showed metal concentrations (Mn and Fe) above the maximum allowed by Brazilian regulation, with particularly higher concentrations at Site 2 (near to pasture area). Biomarker responses did not show significant differences for somatic and mutagenic biomarkers between sites. However, the comet assay showed high DNA damage at Sites 2 and 3, indicating genotoxic effects in caged fish at pasture areas. Histopathological analysis showed highest frequency of leukocyte infiltration in liver of fish from Site 2, confirming the ecotoxic effects on A. lacustris in streams impacted by grazing activities. DNA damage and leukocyte infiltration in fish hepatic tissues were sensitive biomarkers in the neotropical fish A. lacustris to assess the environment health of the Cerrado river. These results showed the importance of using a multibiomarker approach in environmental risk assessment, especially in areas more at risk from anthropogenic pollution. With the development of the economy, anthropogenic emissions in the atmospheric environment increases, and air pollution has caused wide public concern. Vehicle exhaust is an important emission source in the atmosphere, and alkanes are the representative components in it. In this study, the optical properties of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) derived from several C12 alkanes (2-methylundecane, hexylcyclohexane, and cyclododecane) in the absence of NOX were determined. Absorption (imaginary part of the refractive index (RI), k) at 532 nm was negligible for all the derived SOA, and the scattering (real part of RI, n) of the SOA at 532 nm followed the order of cyclododecane SOA less then hexylcyclohexane SOA less then 2-methylundecane SOA, at both room- (25 °C) and low- (5 °C) temperature. The chemical compositions of the SOA formed were analyzed with an electrospray ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ESI-TOF-MS). The mass spectra showed that the oligomers were generated in the reactions. It was shown that the different reaction pathways (due to various alkane structures) leaded to the difference in SOA chemical composition, which changed the RI values. The low-temperature condition promoted the progress of the oligomerization reaction so that the final RI values also changed. This work suggested that when estimating the radiative forcing of SOA using regional or global models, the structure of the precursors and reaction conditions should be taken into account.
